Porto (home) Pre-Match Thread

Recommended Posts

Leicester vs FC Porto (Home). Champions League.
Tue 27 September 2016. 19:45. King Power Stadium.

In astrology (may work): the logo/symbol of the match will be:

* FC Porto:
"The Gold Rush Tears Men Away From Their Native Soil."
Keynote: The passionate search for new values = gambling everything on a dream.
Keyword could be: Avidity.

* Leicester City:
"An Indian Chief Claims Power From The Assembled Tribe."
Keynote: The power and responsibility implied in any claim for leadership.
Keyword could be: Authority in a vital group-situation.

* Play & Score:
Yearning For Conscious Form And Solidity.

The accidental & essential dignity & debility of planets in the match chart are:
Leicester: "11"    /    Porto: "02".

* Great possibilities for goals: (approximate timing ±1minute).

1st Half:
From 19:50 to 19:53.
At 19:57/58: (dragon’s head).
At 20:06.
At 20:08.
At 20:12.
At 20:29.
At 20:33 (if injury time more than 2m)

2nd Half:
At 20:49.
At 20:58/59.
At 21:03/04.
At 21:06 to 09.
At 21:24.
At 21:31.

I think:
Especially if Leicester plays in blue and Porto in any colour except black,

Leicester will win (a very good score).

Good Luck.

Please go 3-5-2. I think Mahrez would work better as an attacking midfielder behind the strikers. Teams have worked him out on the wing and this could provide the 'freshness' that we have been lacking.

stat time

  • This is the first competitive meeting between Leicester City and Porto.
  • Porto have never won a competitive away game against an English side, losing 15 of their 17 trips (W0 D2 L15).
  • Porto have conceded 11 goals and scored none in their last three visits to England. They've also never kept a clean sheet in their 17 away games against English opposition.
  • Leicester's win against Brugge meant they became just the third English club to win on their Champions League debut after Manchester United and Newcastle United.
  • Only Milan in November 1992 and Atletico Madrid in 1996 have recorded a bigger margin of victory than Leicester in their first ever Champions League game (both 4-0).
  • Porto are winless in their last three Champions League games (W0 D1 L2), this after losing just one in 14 prior to that (W9 D4 L1).
  • However, Porto have lost just two of their last eight away from home in the competition, winning three and drawing three in that run.
  • In their last 10 Champions League games against English sides Porto have either found the net twice (4 times) or failed to score at all (6 times).
  • Leicester City scored with their first ever shot in the Champions League in their opening match against Brugge.
  • Leicester City are the sixth club managed by Claudio Ranieri in the Champions League, only Carlo Ancelotti has more (7). His best performance to date was a semi-final with Chelsea in 2003/04.
  • Porto have never progressed further than the Champions League quarter-finals since they lifted the trophy in 2004.
  • Leicester City's Riyad Mahrez scored with two of his three shots attempted against Club Brugge in the previous matchday.

King not good enough tbh to start a CL game.

Ranieri has learned his lesson from the forum (ist), he will not align morgan simpson drinkwater (yes he is responsible as well) mahrez and vardy for their debacle against MU.

He will deprived them from the first champion's league game of LCFC history  in Leicester.

That will teach them.

I honestly don't know which way to go on this one send out the same 11 and tell them to put things right or make changes in formation or personnel or both.  Tomorrow night is going to be a big test and we need to see the band of brothers spirit come through.  If changes were to be made I might just go for 3 in centre midfield just to protect the back four but one thing we do need is the energy and work rate from last season and the players winning thier duels win those and we should win the game.

slimani up top, vardy just behind linking with slimani or vice versa.4 4 11 formation with vardy or slimani dropping in to help out the midfield. get the ball out wide and pepper them with crosses for slimani while vardy runs at them either out wide or through the middle with mahrez hopefully doing his little tricks and the defence staying solid and strong(please)

I'd stick with Zieler if there is any doubt, he's not done badly has he. Reading into that we wont have Mendy available.

yep, he has done great, if you dismiss the conceding of 8 goals in 2 matches.

The team against Porto :) ?

King and Amartey CM pairing has potential disaster all over it. Amartey will probably be lost trying to find King on the pitch and without Drinky's leadership. Saying that, Drinkwater would be a great captain.

I'm liking Slimani/Okazaki though. Vardy has not justified the 600k in wages so far this season.
