Chico1958 Posted 1 May 2017 Posted 1 May 2017 10th and I'm happy......... better and I'm happier Chelsea finished 10th last year 51 points
Livid Posted 2 May 2017 Posted 2 May 2017 I thought we would finish 8th at the start of the season but (if we manage it) I didn't expect it to be such a journey. I was expecting a win one, draw one, lose one kind of season. I'll be slightly miffed if we manage it because if we had played to our strengths from the first day this season could have seen us qualifying for Europe again.
Bryn Posted 2 May 2017 Posted 2 May 2017 A lot of the teams fighting for a top half finish seem to have given up and gone on their summer holidays. Watford, West Brom, West Ham and Southampton for example are all in poor form. I don't think we will be so considerate to those around us.

Only a week or two ago I claimed 8th was out of the question and 9th was the highest we could possibly finish, I thought the gap between 8th and 9th was too much but all of sudden we've reeled 8th in and that is now achievable, very achievable. It's actually turned into a great season, think my aim start of the season was top 6 (I didn't make any target for CL), I had to reassess that several times and lower my expectations, but now i'm highering them again! A top half finish and QF's of the Champions League is a really good season imo. Thankfully we've turned it round because we were only going one way, it was a terrible season, it was getting to the point where I couldn't wait for this season to end. But the fact we can still acheive 8th proves my point that the league is no stronger this season than it was last season (Barr Chelsea), we should have been dead and buried, we were awful, along with Palace the worst team in the league at points this season, I know Sunderland have been bottom all season and poor, but i'd have said at times we were worse! Thankfully we've turned it round and because everyone else is shit we've managed to shoot back up the table. I really do think we can do well and finish high next season. I had top 10 and CL QF an definitely in with a chance of happening.

StanSP Posted 2 May 2017 Posted 2 May 2017 10th and above and I'll be happy. I bet with my mate £50 in around Dec/Jan that we would finish top half . Up until Ranieri was sacked he was laughing.
yorkie1999 Posted 2 May 2017 Posted 2 May 2017 This season doesn't matter anymore, it's about trying new players and ideas, good summer break then aim for Europe next season. These players have it in them and it was just a bridge too far this season. If they can qualify then they'll be more experienced. My mate noticed a very big difference in how we played last Saturday compared to the previous year at West Brom, reckons we're a lot more patient and know how to buy fouls and stuff

No way is this the second best season in our history even if we finish 8th. Winning the League cup and finishing top ten was better and runners up in the 1920s probably better. The late run has papered over what has generally been a woeful season. Record player investment and some terrible results and performances. One very decent result against Sevilla does not disguise a very average season. Certain three points you say? Standing by the comment Hull to go down without picking up another point!
FireFox Posted 6 May 2017 Posted 6 May 2017 West Brom: Chelsea at home (L), Manchester City away (L), and then Swansea at home (W). Would put them on 48 points. We have: Manchester City away (D), Spurs at home (W), Bournemouth (W) at home. Would put us on 50 points.
Nalis Posted 6 May 2017 Posted 6 May 2017 Reckon Southampton will take 8th by a nose with us finishing 9th.

Jattdogg Posted 6 May 2017 Posted 6 May 2017 Either way you look at it if we can bag top 10 its a massive acheivement after last season and how we did in the first half
China Black Posted 6 May 2017 Posted 6 May 2017 It would be an astonishing achievement if we did, given where we were in February. Win our last three games, then it will happen.
Ian Nacho Posted 6 May 2017 Posted 6 May 2017 Not 100% sure but if we finished 8th and Arsenal win the FA Cup and finish in the Europa League, we get in the Europa League. Very unlikely to happen because Southampton have 2 games in hand over us, but still a possibility.
AyewJoking Posted 6 May 2017 Posted 6 May 2017 Would be disappointed not to finish top 10 now. Another crazy Leicester city season
Kendal Fox Posted 6 May 2017 Posted 6 May 2017 Well, if Shakespeare is being extremely tough on the lads with regard to our last 3 games in order to consolidate a top half finish, we have every chance I reckon. I think he knows that just clinching survival isn't really good enough, given the disappointing title defence. The mental strength is certainly there and at least we're going into the Man City game with the knowledge that we've beaten them twice in a row, Home and Away.

Can't see them getting anything away at Swansea considering they will be on the beach.
Marshall Cockney Fox Posted 6 May 2017 Posted 6 May 2017 8th and CL quarter finals would well exceed my previous season hopes. Funny old game footie. What was all the panicking about back in week before Seville??? Well done Shakey, well done lads
Koke Posted 6 May 2017 Posted 6 May 2017 Just can't help but think what a waste this season has been (domestically). We've lost to some utter garbage, Watford, Sunderland, Hull, Swansea, Bournemouth etc. We have rescued our season but imagine what could have been. Oh well...

It's definitely been an opportunity this season, one in which we look to of salvaged thankfully. In the coming seasons, we need to be aiming top ten - it's doable.

Guest CityFan 06 Posted 6 May 2017 Posted 6 May 2017 I do hope we can sustain our place in th top ten now and continue the momentum. To finish in the top ten would be a real achievement this season, given the situation/position we were in.
