It wasn't a huge criticism stan. But we both know people pop on and off the forums. I'd have read it and assumed you were saying the transfer is on despite earlier warnings about this being a low winded transfer. just thought it might better to make sure even newcomers to the thread know what you're saying - might save you from getting it in the neck if it's read wrongly too!

Maybe newcomers shouldn't be so lazy and read the thread from the start lol

Or wt least click on stan's profile to see his other comments first before making assumptions

Let's be honest, we all know that if lcfc get the choice of one of the most exciting young strikers in European football or a fat championship journeyman with one half a decent premier league season under his belt then we're going to wind up with Troy Deeney.

Yes, as if you're invited to be in a hotel with dinner and overnight stay with Kate Upton but find out it'll actually be Kathy Burke instead.

Going to be pretty underwhelming, also.

Dude, don't be so pessimistic! Man City seem to be saying that they will not let him go unless they get other targets in. On that basis, nothing is going to happen for a while and there is a long way to go in the window. Who knows, but perhaps talks are ongoing with this guys agents and a number of clubs and if and when Man City say he can go, he will be in  position to decide what he thinks his best move is.

Thinking about this transfer, we could find ourselves in a 3-way triangle, where we'd have to lose a player to gain the signature.

It's understood that Man City have stated Iheanacho won't leave until they find a replacement... it's also understood Man City are keen on Sanchez... and whilst Arsenal would be loath to lose him, especially to a league rival, if they feel unable to resist a sizeable offer they then need a replacement... which makes their pursuit of Mahrez even more likely.

There are of course other scenario's that could transpire, especially as recent rummors are that Sanchez will sign a new 300k p/w deal at Arsenal thus scuppering City's advances, but it feels like a valid train of thought.

Who knows, IF Sanchez stays at Arsenal and they decide to retain Oxlade Chamberlain too, it could be that Mahrez stays with us for the time being (although I fear what will happen is we end up losing him 1-2 weeks into the season, which would be the worst result for us).

I wouldn't be surprised to lose both Ulloa and perhaps Slim this window if the right offers came in - we'd get back upward of 30 million combined and be left with Vardy Okazaki Deeney and Ich... Which would be good - though I'd prefer 5 strikers for a Prem campaign.

The four would be fine with Gray capable of being a makeshift forward.

He seems to enjoy that for the u21s.

Arsenal will lose Sanchez before they get their hands on Mahrez. If he wants to go, he'll go. Anyway, if Wenger still wants to persist with 3-4-3 Mahrez dosent fit in anyway as Ozil would be playing where Mahrez plays best.

Yeah, I always remember a Harry Redknapp interview from years ago where he broke down the two players for every position stuff but went on about having 5 competitive strikers - citing examples of injury and intensity/frequency of games that had caused teams with 3/4 to miss out on silverware... It was interesting and memorable and founded in experience rather than hearsay. I agree that with Gray we'd be okay - just saying why I mentioned the 5 striker thing!

This has been said several times in this thread but I still find it hard to believe. Surely a club with Man City's pulling power will have no difficulty in finding a suitable replacement, and could afford to let Icheanacho go immediately.

Why take the risk?

Agree with this, and hope that such an acquisition might sway Mahrez (and others?) into thinking it would be worth staying with us.

If you have huge pulling power in the transfer market, then I see no risk. Why would Man City doubt their ability to do this?

Maybe they have a deal for sanchez on the table and arsenal want more. maybe they are trying to make it look as though they are prepared to walk away and keep kelechi instead.

Not if theres a buy back, it says yeah we'll take your player, develop him for you and then he can go straight back to you when he is any good. It's a small, selling club mindset.

He's a great player but I don't want us to be someone's feeder club. I want us to aspire to be competing alongside the likes of Man City, not below them.
