Would you rather have a player that scores 20 a season for a season or two, and then be forced to sell him at a profit; or not have that player at all? It's not a great deal, but despite what Theresa says, a deal is better than no deal. There are plenty other capable players out there, I'd rather we went for someone we can build the team around and then we choose when to sell them, like we have with Mahrez and get a replacement in, and not like Kanté, who left and we had to rush to find a replacement, another year and we would have eased Ndidi in. 6 minutes ago, Rusko187 said: It's not.. you are absolutely right, but never in a million years would Man City agree to a buy back clause which means they will break their transfer record by a considerable margin. On the flip side he could still prove to be an immense success and Man City may not take him, they may have the next Messi in their ranks already. And it would be down to the player, stay with Leicester and play or go Man City and play second fiddle. If he does go back we get £10m... not to be sniffed at! Fair point, but why would they put a buy back in if they wouldn't take him back if he developed? I'm just not a fan of release clauses of any sort after last summer, I think for a club we aspire to be then we shouldn't be putting them in unless for ridiculous fees.

If Iheanacho came to us and had an outstanding couple of seasons, pushing his market value up to £50-75m, Man City would have the option to obtain a high value striker for considerably less than market value. Why would they not take it up? They're hardly going to say, "He's worth £70m but our buyback clause allows us to get him for £35m and we don't buy £35m strikers, so we won't bother..." Its reciprocal as get Man City get to see if he can really cut the mustard at the top level as he wont get the game time with them and then they can have him back for a cut price, for us well.. its the best we gona get guys! the only realistic deal we get the player he might have a huge impact on us cementing our place in the EPL and that s more money and more time to build and hopefully some get the f@ckin moments along the way

Well yeah of course, if he turns into the next Messi and they can get him for £35m than bargain! Probably happens a lot more than you think but whereby he actually has to potential to be so much better it's come to the forefront. I'd say a fair BB is £50m, we get profit, they get a worldie player at a decent price.. happy days! I do hate the clause though.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 6 July 2017 Posted 6 July 2017 Maybe a buy back clause should match the outlay + wages and bonuses paid for the player whilst he is contracted. So in effect a free loan period, the original club receives a better player than they released and the club who helped him achieve that result isn't in any financial way impacted.

VLC86 Posted 6 July 2017 Posted 6 July 2017 I won't believe any of it until the Bisnob brothers tweet it.

foxinsocks Posted 6 July 2017 Posted 6 July 2017 Guys... when I posted a buy back of say 35M or 40M I was just guessing. I am relaxed about the buy back clause - if he does great and he is then worth 70M clearly we will be miffed if they can buy him back for £40M... (I am assuming they can't just have him back to sell on - i.e. they have to keep him for say 2 years or give us the profit above the buy back amount). Therefore he will only want to go back to them if he will play... and if he wants to go back to them then we would have to let him go rather then keep him. If he doesn't want to go them they wont press him. IE he decides effectively. So the only issue is that if he wants to go back to man city we lose out on the profit... the way around this is to say OK you can have the buy back at say £40M but we will have to reduce the initial fee by £5M or something. NB: This buyback thing is only an issue if he goes to back to man city - if they had asked for "a 50% share of the fee if we sell to ANYONE for more than 25M" then that is much worse for us than the buy back thyy are requesting. So it's not so bad. I think I need to chat it thru with rudkin. The final essential thing about a buy back is that here must be limited window for them to exercise this option (- so that we are subsequently free to sell him on if we wish) - e.g. within the summer window or 2019
RumbleFox Posted 6 July 2017 Posted 6 July 2017 If this happens I'm gonna do something I told myself I would never try again after the 2003 debacle. The old "love yoghurt in your own mouth" manoeuvre here we come..... X
Ricey Posted 6 July 2017 Posted 6 July 2017 Pete O'Rourke is normally fairly reliable, or at least was when he worked at Sky.

Adster Posted 6 July 2017 Posted 6 July 2017 Let's hope this is back on. This is the guy that I really want to sign. This signing would show real ambition by the club.

FrankieADZ Posted 6 July 2017 Posted 6 July 2017 all sounds rather promising, hopefully we'll get this done soon, it would be a decent transfer window so far for us if we did

Perhaps if he's actually now a full timer at ESPN (not sure if he is) then he's got contacts there.
Finnegan Posted 6 July 2017 Posted 6 July 2017 On behalf of Nigeria, let me just say, it's distinctly possible this is true.
