The Heat

You have to laugh at the British, don't you?

Two days ago: "Oh, God, I can't stand this heat any longer - I just want it to rain..."

Today: "Fvcking rain - typical British Summer"

If there was a Complaining Olympics the British would win gold and then complain about the stadium and the metal used to make the medal.

And how flimsy the podium is.

They would, but only among themselves.

I've noticed - particularly abroad - that the British are actually quite reticent about complaining to someone - they prefer to complain among themselves after the event. For example, I was in a restaurant while on holiday this year and the British couple on a table near us were complaining to each other about their steak being undercooked, yet when the waiter asked, "Is everything ok?" they replied enthusiastically that it was 'lovely, thank you', then returned to their griping as soon as he had gone.

You promised you wouldn't bring this up. The waiter was a big lad. My wife is physically imposing, if she wasn't going to tell him, I'm bloody sure I wasn't going to.

Just come back from holiday. The only clue as to how it's been are the dead frogs on the patio.

It's clearly not been the weather for amphibians. Will definitely include a pond/bog garden in my garden redesign

Mad flurry of baby frogs crossing the lane on our dog walk this morning. Loving the rain.

Waited all week to build my shed, now it is gusty as hell.  Still I’ve got the walls up.

In good news I finished the glazing at about 8:30 last night.  Shame today’s isn’t shed painting weather, but at least it’s up and weather proof.

Sounds kinda permanent.

Are you not going to Oz now, Jon?

All those morning about the heat happy now it’s freezing cold, pissing down and blowing a gale?

Delighted. If it can last the week so I don't need to be sat at my desk in 30 degree heat then even better.

Must admit I do feel a bit for those stuck in an office in the heat sweating their nuts off.

I'm lucky that I work from home so can sit around with the windows open just wearing my boxers :)

Sitting in an office with no aircon must have been a nightmare. My office however was cold. Too cold sometimes. Everytime I went outside it was like stepping off a plane! Still preferable to this rain though

People that moan about people that moan about the weather are more boring than people that moan about the weather. Especially as they tend to be passing themselves off as somehow more enlightened, stoic or superior.

It's not particularly shocking that a lot of people are both uncomfortable when the temperature is high AND low.

That and most of the time, people who "moan" about the weather aren't really all that bothered by it, they're just making conversation. It's not just the Brits that do it, the Scandis do it and I imagine other cultures do too. Its just easy small talk.

I personally hate heat, I'm always warm, I really struggle at any point over 20. I like being cold and I don't complain about the weather in winter at all but I still miss the sun by the time February comes around and its been months of grey.
