He's been poor for ages and on recent showing James is still the better player. James is good but isnt mobile enough for 442.

I see you dodged the Amartey stat Drinkwater isn't irreplaceable. Poor form for six months, returned to his negative ways, didn't create enough. He isn't in the same bracket as Schmeichel, Mahrez or Vardy.
STUHILL Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Time to line up that replacement! Let him go but only for £35-40 million and if we get our replacement in. People saying he is our play maker have not seen a genuine play making CM. He has been fantastic for us and was outstanding in our title winning season, often the MOTM. He wants to leave though and unlike Mahrez, I think we can find a very decent replacement. I also believes it gives us a chance to add a CM who is far more comfortable on the ball than we currently have. A genuine play maker who can see a pass and beat a man if needed. I would be on the phone to Sporting and tie up a deal for Adrien Silva, then push Chelsea as close to £40 million as possible.
moseeds Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Let's add some perspective. Danny Drinkwater has been a Leicester player since 2012. He's given us 5 years of his career - 1/3rd or even 1/2 of his peak footballing career (he's 27, he has approximately 5 years left in the premiership). He's tasted success, he wants more. He's on the edge of the England team. Realistically we can't offer regular European football, cup finals or more league titles, not in the near future. Chelse can. Anyone of us would if offered the opportunity to take the last part of your career farther you would. We will miss him once he's gone, just like Kante, Mahrez and probably Schmeical/Vardy at some point too. Losing players the calibre of DD means we are growing up as a club. It's normal for bigger players to lose stars, but what sets bigger clubs apart from the mediocre is the ability to replace them. I think we can. I'd prefer to thank DD not begrudge him - for giving the fans the kind of glory none of us thought we'd ever experience in our lifetime. For going about his job diligently, without drama. For making the long-balls look sexy on TV. He's a great, hard-working player and he will do fantastically well in a Chelsea team that enjoys playing solid defensive counter attacking football. If he goes either tomorrow or in January I wish him all the best in the next phase of his career.

He's struggled to have a real impact on the game in terms of winning the ball and getting it moving quickly. He's never shown anywhere near the quality Drinkwater has at this level.
FLAN Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Why are theybtrying to sign an injured player? Imagine if he fails the medical after a transfer request
ARM1968 Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 £40 million id sell and use that money to bring in someone genuinely creative. They are out there, just not from a PL side who would want £50 million or more.
Kitchandro Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 If people are so sure we can find a decent replacement then how come we've got 4 central midfielders in the squad that aren't fit to lace his boots? What have we been playing at and why do people think we'll suddenly pull off a great signing literally overnight?

Sambiasso Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 I think Iborra was Drinkys replacement all along.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 We need to sell these players. Why be a club where the players are held to ransom against their will. We'll get a bad rep.
Bert Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Drinkwater controls the midfield for us. He's very good at keeping possession for us and being there to pick up the passes from defence and does some vital defensive work. When Drinkwater plays well, the whole team plays well. He's a vital cog in our machine.

ARM1968 Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Gylfi £50 million DD £23 million? right. How many titles has the G man won? chelsea need to stump up or fuch off. We aren't desperate to sell and they are desperate to buy.
ARM1968 Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Let us down, the club down, his parents down, but most of all, he's let himself down. I'm going to use the most devastating word in a parent's armoury - Disappointed.

I know we were never going to better that but after winning it we spent lots of money on players that aren't good enough, lost the manager and now two of that spine want to leave. Bit extreme at the minute mate. Last summer was a disgrace; however this summer we've signed Maguire and Iheanacho and currently lost nobody. Come tomorrow if we do lose Mahrez and Drinkwater then fail to replace them then I'd worry. Like it or not though this was always going to happen at some point. The core of our title winning side steadily dismantles as seasons pass. We are never going to compete with the usual top six; however we should at least be on Everton's line of trying to break into the top six but more likely to finish 7th or 8th. With the squad we have now that's achievable, you take Drinkwater and Mahrez out and replace them with shit, then you'd drop us at least five places, maybe more.

Bad news if he goes.

I will be shocked if we don't have at least a few potential targets. It will be hard to replace Drinky's work rate and contribution in defence, but I think we can improve on his attacking qualities. I would certainly be delaying any deal though until we have a replacement all but done. Drinky can stay put otherwise.
