foxinsocks Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 a player signs a five year contract for 90k a week - in return for the club paying the wages he is committing to play for five years. So what is a "transfer request"? - the threat to sulk? - in which case he would be in breech of the contract. WE have seen too many of these issues in football. Does the player try to pay back the increase in wages since he signed? My own solution would be to put say 30% of their weekly wages into trust to be paid at the the end of the contract period or when new contract is signed or when the player accepts the clubs proposal to sell him. AS I have said before - the club should say "we are not selling our best players... we expect players to honour their contracts... and to focus on making us a CL club... other clubs trying to bid for our players are wasting their time" - This would show ambition and leadership.

We have Ndidi James Iborra King Amarty. 2 places 5 players relax everybody. A favour you say but who would you rather have starting or coming on as a sub, King, Amartey or Drinky? There is a reason why Chelsea are in for him and not Amartey.

Whats the point of having a mardy, sulky individual upsetting the dressing room? If he wants to go to warm the Chelsea bench let him go. Would explain the mystery injury, coupled with the fact he has trained all week but allegedly not ready yet? He certainly wasn't the player last season. Injury or no injury, he was poor by his standards, it is easy to say cos he didn't have Kante next to him etc, etc, but he didn't do himself justice with some of his displays. What's the alternative? Should we allow bigger clubs to waltz in and tell us what players they're taking of ours and what price they will be paying? Drinkwater signed a five year deal worth £25m last season. He can't have it both ways that he has the security of a contract that sets him up for life and walks out on the club when it suits him. If he had a two year injury and was a shadow of the player when he came back he wouldn't be giving the club some money back. He can't have it both ways. We've already said he can go to Chelsea but they want to pay less than what Andros Townsend will reportedly cost. Perhaps if Chelsea and Drinkwater want each other so much they should pay more than £23m and Drinkwater could play for less money to make up the shortfall or do they want their cake and eat it?
Joefox Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 They are only buying him cos he used to partner Kante. Chelsea don't even need him. Literally any player we buy that turns out good is going to be bid on in the future as well. Fcuking annoying.
foxinsocks Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 drinkwater is key for us - he is not just a DM - he is the playmaker. We should tell him we can't let him go to Chelsea and he will have to get over it. Who thinks we will be a better team if we swap him for £28M? or even £48M
Dr The Singh Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Victims of our own success, we win the prem, certain outstanding performances from some keys players. Following season is wasted with mediocre signings, players get taste of champions league and playing on the big stage and endup in a mediocre state. This season, Players are in demand, our players want to play in the big stage, we make some good signings but the club remain mediocre and mid table in stature.................why wouln't our players want to leave if they can play in an better team. We had the best opportunity when we won the champions league to really invent our team as a top 6 side, we failed to do that, and now those players that can play in a top 6 side want to leave.
Captain... Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 I'm weirdly not that bothered by Drinkwater going, don't get me wrong I think he is a good player and was great when we won the league, but he has been garbage as many times as he has been great, we have Ndidi, James, Iborra, King, Mendy, Amartey. That is too many CMs James has consistently out performed Drinkwater, injury aside, Ndidi is our best midfielder, Iborra should be a good addition. Mendy and Amartey have something to prove. The only downside is Drinkwater is due a good season, but he isn't going to replace Matic and he isn't going to get in ahead of Kante, Bakayoko, Fabregas, Willian etc Just a weird one all round.

Sharpe's Fox Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 The mood seems to have changed from one where people wanted Danny sold for anything over £30m to one where he should stay because posters don’t like him getting his way after handing in a transfer request. Personally I’d like Drinky to stay, not least because I think this wouldn’t be a good move for him with Bakayoko being bought there for more money along with Fabregas, but I wouldn’t be petty about him leaving just because he wants to.
sk3since03 Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Just read the Sky Sports report on it! If Chelsea want DD as direct replacement for Matic then they'll be thouroughly disapointed

Pretty certain the biggest driver is them fulfilling their homegrown quota, hence also being linked to Barkley. I guess they have a space to fill given Terry has gone, and their other signings have all been from abroad.
urban.spaceman Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Last 36 hours of the window, time for the club to double the asking prices for players we can't replace. Chelsea can fvck off.
ARM1968 Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Pay the money required or fuch off. Who owns them again? Roma Ambramovich?

And therefore at no stage should the club even consider requests for players like Ulloa, King, Musa, Mendy, Lawrence, et al. They have a contract and we should keep on paying them every penny of it right up to the last day of that contract period. ?
Buzzell Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Puts in a transfer request in hope to move on to Chelsea but I hope we don't just sell him for the sake of it. We need to get the right price for him, not what Chelsea think is good enough.

Nod.E Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Am I the only one that thinks we can do better than Drinkwater anyway? I find it staggering that Chelsea are in for him. He's been poor for ages and on recent showing James is still the better player.

Rumour has it that he'd had a hip flexor injury for most of last season. Can't remember where I read that though so it might not be public knowledge.
