Work update. I've just got up for breakfast. The plan is I'll start doing some work in about 40 minutes.image.jpeg.e779361aea2b96b36cac20bf1e0a77c0.jpeg

Do you put the milk in before the tea, or the other way around?

Interesting question about my coffee.

But, seeing as you are interested, milk always goes into the cup first. Heathens do it the other way around.

My Mrs swears that the milk MUST go in last. I don't drink tea, but when I make her a cup, it's always milk first.

She always says I make a great cuppa.

I agree that milk should go on a tea first if it has to. Same with always putting some milk/xold water on instant coffee.

But the real answer is - why would you ruin a perfectly good tea by putting milk in it in the first place?

Tea ..  milk first

Coffee ..  milk last

Surely everyone knows that !!!

Except for the waiter at the hotel I’m saying at who who puts the coffee and milk in at the same time ..  cus he’s a cool dude ..  and always seems to be in a hurry   ..  :)

If a teabag is used, it should be placed in the cup first. Then the boiling water is poured onto it, the extract the tea's flavour. Then the milk is added carefully, to get exactly the right strength, using the brownness of the mixture as a guide. Only if a teapot is used can the milk go in the cup first!

Well that goes without saying you silly old duffer ..  :)

Milk in first always. You do have to have the right pouring technique or it comes out too weak. You lift the bag up onto the spoon almost horizontally, so it's half in half out of the water level all the way until you get to the top. Essentially the water pours directly onto the bag all the way.

The taste is very different. It removes all the bitter taste from the tannins and makes it lovely and smooth tasting.

What the actual ****, how have multiple people admitted to putting the milk in first? You're an actual shame to your country

I didn't know there were so many either. They must travel in packs single file to disguise their numbers like fvcking sand people.

I thought with tea it was always put tea bag in mug, add boiling water, leave for a bit, stir and remove then add milk to suit. Not hard is it.

Tea bags are what make it taste so bland which makes you need milk in the first place. A good tea should never need to be ruined and watered down with milk.

For some reasons only we do it in the UK, never even been offered milk when I’ve had tea abroad, they all think we’re weirdos for wanting to water the tea down with milk.

Loose tea leaves in a tea strainer/infuser over tea bags is the only way to go.

Fair enough. For me it’s one coffee in the morning to wake up and one tea in the afternoon to relax.

I'm actually OK with Liverpool winning the title ahead of Man City and their fans attitude towards the establishment in general.

Because, insufferable arseholes they can be, the people they challenge are much worse than they are.

Instant coffee is dog muck

I agree it tastes nothing like proper coffee or even pod machines. It’s like a different drink.

I don't drink either tea or coffee, so wondered if people could help me with these questions:

  • Why does it matter whether the milk goes in first or not?
  • No, seriously. WHY does it matter?
  • Does it genuinely affect people so much that other people do it different to how you do it?
  • Instant coffee. If it's so awful why does it sell in such great quantities? Or are billions of people reluctantly drinking a drink they secretly hate just to save some time?
  • Why is it so hard for some people to understand that some people like some things, and these might be popular things?

Food and drink snobbery really is the pits. It borders on elitism and some weird sense of superiority over someone else. Maybe it's because I just don't like either tea or coffee but man you guys are DULL when it comes to debating these drinks.

I feel like this isn't about tea or coffee at all lol

Edited to say,

For what its worth, I tend to agree.

Can we also add in people that get excited about debating what they call a piece of bread.

I will only respond to the fourth point, as clearly this is the point that needs addressing above all others (although clearly milk is added after the brew and to suggest otherwise is tantamount to a capital offence)

For small minded people like myself, growing up on instant coffee, the discovery of ‘proper’ coffee was a revelation and I merely hope to save generations from the struggle of wasting millions upon millions of pounds subsidising these evil conglomerates with their insipid take on coffee. So in short, it is the misguided and the young who buy this fake coffee, who inadvertently proliferate this abomination.

Hope this helps.
