Dr Who don't chose actors to play the lead role on merit or talent.

*puts tin hat on*

Me and some friends were chatting about the next James Bond and Doctor Who some weeks ago. I offered that the next Bond might well be black and/or a woman.(Jane Bond?) Similarly, we've already had a female Doctor and I reckoned that the next may well be black.

I'm not drawing any conclusions, except that it was predictable.

I don't really watch Dr. Who, but Gatwa is absolutely brilliant on Sex Education.

If he isn't being chosen on merit or talent then I have absolutely no idea who is? Or who exactly has been chosen on merit or talent?

He's an absolutely fantastic actor, probably far too good for a broad show like Dr. Who in fact.

I'm with you, to an extent. I really don't understand the idea of supporting other English/British teams in Europe.

However, I'm hoping for a Frankfurt vs Rangers final with Frankfurt winning the tournament. That's only because I wouldn't want Red Bull winning a European trophy.

I would posit that, judging by the contributions on the Champions League and Europa League threads, this is a popular opinion as opposed to an unpopular one.

Would be quite interesting to research this. My instinct is that it's 50/50. Perhaps amongst more committed fans who regularly go to games it may even be 60/40 in favour of supporting the non-English team. Also I wonder if it would be higher amongst younger fans.

I personally just have a lot fewer reasons to dislike, say Real (as dislikeable a club as they are) than Man United or Liverpool. I didn't grow up with Real fans, I don't have to listen to our media fawn over them constantly, they don't constantly get refereeing decisions go their way against us even when injuring our players. I am sure in Spain a lot of non-Real fans probably want them to lose to Liverpool.

Please don't let logic get in the way of a good "non-white male casting for popular TV show lead = *must* be politically correct and not based on merit" argument.

Hope that crypocurrency isn't going to be the future.

It just seems like a fad.

im interested in why you think this?

Knowing that in truth, now all money is only based in trust...why should cryopto be any different. In the past money and credit was based on the gold standard and the value held in their bank... now, all money is just a made up promissary system

The difference is surely that currency is backed by governments.   Crypto is purely going back to pre government back currency which is inherently more risky.

Not sure it's unpopular, but it's off the back of Alan Sugar's latest tirade against "lazy gits" who work from home.

I have no interest in being rich. I want to work as little and as comfortably as possible, so that I can enjoy the one life I have. I've no plans for kids or pets, as I want to live within my own means.

Working from home has taken a great step toward that. I can start work at 7.30 or 8, be able to enjoy a leisurely walk at lunch and stretch my legs. I'm left alone to just get on with my job, rather than having to engage in pointless nonsense. My partner has been called back into the office 1 day a week and says nothing gets done on that day, as everyone is trying to "be social" to make up for "lost time".

I wouldn't entertain the idea of going back into an office full time, with so many hours lost to travelling, when I could just get on with the work and finish.

Even more stupid in this instance because the article he attaches is about an employer voluntarily offering flexible working as a benefit to attract employees.

Why would Alan Sugar be upset about people working from home?

I simply googled 'Alan Sugar property portfolio' and lo and behold:

Same. Took a long time to get used to working from home but the benefits are massive and I'm twice as productive

Been having to go in one day a week for the last few months and myself and colleagues in my office all dread it. The novelty of getting everyone back in wore off after the second week back in, I waste 50 minutes commuting each way and having to pay for parking (with the proposed new parking levy meaning that cost could increase significantly), the computers in our office are far slower than the ones we use at home, there's 6-7 of us in a 4m sq poorly ventilated room so at some point one person is going to come in with Covid and we'll all catch it. I have issues concentrating sometimes so even if I'm not part of conversations, 2 people chatting in our office means I'm doing less work (not even taking into account the slower computer already being a hindrance), and people still take Teams calls without using headsets - and when they do, they always seem to talk considerably louder in case the mic doesn't pick them up. And every Teams call starts with 5-10 minutes of meaningless bullshit conversation "Oh did you get your lounge painted? How are the kids?" ffffffff****ing shut up and let me get my work done. I hate going into work so much now that the evening before it is ruined for me as I dread it

Edit: enough of the sobbing emojis, it's only 1 day a week - could be worse! I'm just bellyaching lol

Breakfast of champions. Scrambled eggs today. I'll start work in about fifteen minutes.

Working from home, I often have the TV on in the background. I'm a pretty caring type of guy with a love of the underdog - but I'm struggling to find an ounce of sympathy for these people who are victims of love scammers.

Don't they ever look in a mirror? Seriously.

Today two men in their 70s got ripped off by someone in Nigeria pretending to be a 34yr old love interest, using pics of a porn star. All I can think of is that the pair of them may be lonely, but christ on a bike - join a damn club or something. Same goes for the older women who reckon 20yr old models would want to cross continents to join them.

And, yes, loneliness is an issue, but unless they are millionaires, what possesses someone to think that a random half their age in another country is remotely interested in them? I don't get it.

My mate's philosophy since March 2020 is ABG - Always Be Green

He sent us a pic of a dangling wired mouse brushing ever so slightly over a piece of paper at natural angle to keep momentum. It was beautiful in many ways and quite ironically probably took more effort than his actual job.
