The whole world smiles Posted 16 October 2017 Posted 16 October 2017 Hopefully one of the few plus points of tonight is that the penny must finally have dropped for Sharkey and we are going to change the system. 3-5-2 worked brilliantly during the great escape and had the best defensive side in the world (Athletico Madrid) at 6s and 7s in the 2nd half last season. We have the personnel for it Albrighton and Chillwel are devestating wing backs and it gets mahrez into the game more and enables us to play two out and out strikers in front of him.
dayday Posted 16 October 2017 Posted 16 October 2017 Yep have to agree, with little or no creativity in the side, this at least gives us a chance against sides .
FoxinNotts Posted 16 October 2017 Posted 16 October 2017 I Agree. It's definitely something we should explore more.
fox_favourite Posted 16 October 2017 Posted 16 October 2017 Only looked good because WBA were so poor. If you change to that we need to see it from the start. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, however I'll leave full judgement till I see it for a full game. We still looked disjointed with this formation and a better team would have got in behind us. Be do agree we need to change something. Maybe Morgan, Maguire and Dragovic. Though that'll be harsh on Simpson who I thought was our best player today.
cityfanlee23 Posted 16 October 2017 Posted 16 October 2017 Would you drop Simpson for Albrighton? Or could simmo play rwb?

I don't care either way - it needs a change in system and if that means dropping players who don't deserve to be dropped that's fine if it makes us work. It can't be any worse than 4-4-2 with the weak central midfielders we have atm.

FoxinNotts Posted 16 October 2017 Posted 16 October 2017 Simpson was steady tonight, defensively, but he falls into the same trap that most are falling into currently - trying to hit the space in behind for Vardy to sprint into. When teams like wba, don't leave that space, Simpson (and some of the others) have no plan B. If we went 3-5-2, the formation would encourage passing through the middle, or hitting a front man to knock it down.

Think we played a 3-4-3 against Athletico 2H of the home leg.

Honestly, this tactic is so ingrained in our players, it would likely take Vardy sitting to get them think about other ways to attack.
sdb Posted 16 October 2017 Posted 16 October 2017 Only a month late. Think it may have saved the manager. Suits our player options so much better. Imagine a midfield that isn't always overrun ???

Errrrrr, I can't quite figure out it you're taking the piss or not..... I would hardly call them devastating? Decent at the very most when on form. At this moment in time Albrighton couldn't put a decent cross into a front 3 of giraffes. But yes I do agree, 5-3-2 or 3-5-2 would be a lot better.

Would play Dragovic instead of Simpson. Would rather have 3 solid centre backs in there instead of 2 with a right back trying to fit in.

Albrighton is playing as a defensive left winger currently and sruglling as a wing back on his natural side he's devestating in my humble opinion.

(Although I can’t see him starting with 3-5-2 either).
lgfualol Posted 17 October 2017 Posted 17 October 2017 For 352 to work you cant play Simpson as a rwb, he's absolutely non-league standard going forward.
st albans fox Posted 17 October 2017 Posted 17 October 2017 Mahrez begins the front two - only against those sides with a physically weak holding midfield. or you expose yourself badly against any side with an ounce of tactical awareness who will pull your back three about behind the wing backs and create acres of space
StriderHiryu Posted 17 October 2017 Posted 17 October 2017 Definitely worth trying as we were infinitely better with that setup. Chilwell looked good in LWB.
Dames Posted 17 October 2017 Posted 17 October 2017 It will be 442 next game and everybody knows it. Shakespeare has huge problems dropping anyone from the title winning team.

Albrighton no
les-tah Posted 17 October 2017 Posted 17 October 2017 Could Amartey be a good right hand side centreback of a 3? He is currently stuck between a centre back and a right back so could be an ideal position for him.
