Foxxed Posted 30 January 2018 Posted 30 January 2018 Win and we're five points off Arsenal in sixth. Lose and we're eighth and only two above ninth. If Mahrez has been unsettled inject some life via Diabate.

Bernieboots76 Posted 30 January 2018 Posted 30 January 2018 If today's news is correct and Mahrez has put in another transfer request and according to ssn he has not traveled with the squad today it is very poor timing from him. The team just need to focus on the game and make sure that they are completely focused on what we are trying to achieve which is another 3 points. This wasn't going to be a easy game in the first place and this is the kind of crap the team could do without, I will be interested to see who Puel puts into to start this match to replace Mahrez.

This. We could do without the bi-annual speculation from Mahrez but we still have a very decent side.To be honest I've been expecting him to go for the last 12 months. If it was someone like N'Didi being sold without much notice I'd be a lot more concerned. The way some are going on you'd think it was worse than the 00s. Most clubs would love to have some of the players we do. If Riyad does go there's no point feeling sorry for ourselves. Lets move on starting at Goodison tomorrow. StriderHiryu Posted 30 January 2018 Posted 30 January 2018 Tough game now with the circus going on in the background. Still capable of winning but Everton were always likely to put a lot of players behind the ball and make life tough, for which Riyad was going to be key to unlocking.
Foxxed Posted 30 January 2018 Posted 30 January 2018 If Mahrez really hasn't travelled with the team- which I still doubt or at least assume he may join after negotiations - then it's either Diabate or Gray time again. We've only got three other than Mahrez unless I'm forgetting someone.
Foxxed Posted 30 January 2018 Posted 30 January 2018 I'm going to sleep and I will be erotically fantasising about this: it's true that Mahrez missed training and didn't travel with this team, we play Diabate, Everton assume he's some nobody, he scores a hattrick, we keep a clean sheet, and the scene ends with a broken Steve Walsh weeping because he'd never even heard of Diabate before. Goodnight. 2 1
foxfanazer Posted 31 January 2018 Posted 31 January 2018 (edited) Big job for Mr Puel tonight to focus the players on this game and not the Mahrez circus. Good opportunity to play Diabate although I expect we’ll go with Gray and Albrighton Edited 31 January 2018 by foxfanazer
Farrington fox Posted 31 January 2018 Posted 31 January 2018 This Mahrez speculation could be unsettling, I reckon we've got a job on our hands to get anything out of this. A draw at best.
les-tah Posted 31 January 2018 Posted 31 January 2018 imagine the social media posts from Gray if Diabate gets the nod ahead of him tonight. 2
RowlattsFox Posted 31 January 2018 Posted 31 January 2018 I think Gray will get first chance ahead of Diabate and I expect him to put in a performance tonight, problem for him is always following it up. Either that or it will be Chilwell on the left, Albrighton on the right
Alf Bentley Posted 31 January 2018 Posted 31 January 2018 (edited) I'm trying to think rationally about this Mahrez disruption. I don't suppose Sporting were delighted at our last minute move for Silva when we lost Drinkwater. Can't blame Riyad for having his head turned either: prospect of another PL winners' medal, Champions League football - even a winner's medal, possibly. I know that Man City are only after him because of Sane's injury, but Mahrez will believe he can force his way into the Man City team. Cannot even blame Man City for the late bid, as they've just lost a key attacker going into a critical part of the season....and Riyad would be eligible for the Champions League. Still massively frustrating, though. What timing - just before what could conceivably be the most important match of our season, seeing as Everton are our most likely rivals for 7th place over a few months, crap though their form has been recently. Big moment for Puel and the players to prove themselves. If Mahrez is missing tonight, hopefully they can use his absence to fuel their defiance so as to inspire them to a top performance. I can see that being the response of 1 or 2 players, particularly Vardy. I always get the impression there's a bit of rivalry between him and Riyad, so maybe he'll put on a big performance tonight? Hard to imagine Claude firing them up with dramatic team talks, but he seems a quietly determined character, so hope he can get them feeling positive in his own way. Would still take a draw right now. If Riyad stays after this, Claude will also have a big job to ensure that he remains motivated for the rest of the season and that any absence today doesn't cause rifts with other players. Hopefully possible as it's in everyone's interests, including Riyad's. Big clubs weren't interested in him after his moderate season in 16-17 and wouldn't be again if his form collapses now. If he stays, he'll effectively be playing for a big summer move for the rest of the season. I'd settle for him doing that and leaving in the summer with us heading for Kazakhstan or Moldova in the Europa League (with FA Cup winners medals in pocket). stripeyfox Posted 31 January 2018 Posted 31 January 2018 I saw that lots of people were saying last night that Mahrez hadn't traveled. Whether this is the case or not, I am not sure, but I was surprised that they would travel to Liverpool over 24 hours before kick off? Is that usual? Surely they'd travel up today wouldn't they?
CosbehFox Posted 31 January 2018 Posted 31 January 2018 Just hoping there's some siege mentality on show over the next couple of games. You can use it as the right motivation
Clever Fox Posted 31 January 2018 Posted 31 January 2018 A win tonight would be huge in the context of our season. It keeps Everton further behind us and away from 7th place. A Win and we get closer to that cherished top 6 position, heaping more pressure on Arsenal who are struggling lately. If we do win tonight I think it will give the Team the incentive to continue our push for that top 6 position and all of the benefits it brings with it. On wards and Upwards we go.

Sorry, I was thinking more of the fans than the club owners. I should have made that clear. Fair point re. the Sporting owners, though a massive fee for them, and by then they'd have known he wanted to go. 1

Yep I think tonight is massive test for us now. More from a mental side than anything. Winning would be a big statement. I hope that the players put in a shift and don’t let the disruption become an excuse. Breaking Everton down will be the tough part. We almost over rely on Mahrez for his creativity. We can do it without him, but now we have to show we can.
Duncan_K Posted 31 January 2018 Posted 31 January 2018 Siege mentality, will be a big test, would be great to hear "4-0 to the one man team" ringing out loud! 2
