A pint of mild in The Salutation pub when i should have been at school ...

I met someone who went in there to pick his daughter up once and somebody threw an ashtray at him and broke his jaw. Nice place.

Used to get taken to Filbert St, by my godfather, so would have been early 90s, i'd have been about 12, he used to stick me in the corner of the Robert Peel with half a cider (would have been Woodpecker in those days i think) at a time, with strict instruction that if the old bill walked in, the glass disappeared under the table sharp ish. This tradition continued until I was about 15/16. Used to stay home Friday nights, whilst my mates were doing the drinking down the park for fear of my parents making me miss a game and my trip to the pub, felt well grown up in comparison to drinking litres of diamond white in the cold and dark lol

Took me until I was about 17 to ditch the cider and start on Lager's, i miss paying about 1 pound a pint in the Soar Point lol

Couldn't drink in the village I grew up in, cos everyone knew your age. Used to walk to Stoney Cove in Stanton instead,

Walked a lot as a teen, as none of us were old enough to drive and we had to mix the pubs up a bit - happy days!

First Pint was probably the Middlefield Inn in Hinckley as played under 16's Football for the boys club in Hinckley and they used to serve anyone. First time buying booze from a shop Torino's in Hinckley used to walk down in school uniform and get served they would serve anyone. 4 cans of Fosters and a Small bottle of Vodka me and my mate shared it and then went to Zuu in Hinckley think we were around 15. The Barley Sheaf in Hinckley and JB's were great for getting served to. I forgot i had an GCSE exam once whilst in JB's never necked a pint so quick legged it to school and sat the exam was only RE ( was multiple choice back then) thought i had nailed it - got a E.

This was around 1999 - 2000 the days were you could pretty much get served anywhere!

Plenty of illegal ones from about 14+, either in cricket clubs where it was actively encouraged, or a curry house in Harborough that let us as long as we ordered some food (sometimes a chicken tikka starter between six of us lol) before usually going on to a gig somewhere.

First legal one on my 18th was a pint of Spitfire in Harb Wetherspoons I think. Wanted to act grown up and try something interesting rather than the Carling/Kronenbourg I was used to drinking in the various occasions I got in there as a 16/17-year-old.

My first pub drink was in the Highfields Hotel, aged about 15. I remember it cost 12p a pint, and I was legless on less than 50p.

My first experience with alcohol was the previous year in Spain. We'd booked into one of those fixed-price barbeques where you got to eat and drink all you wanted. My father, being a bit of a tight git, was a bit miffed that we weren't getting value for money because my mother wasn't a drinker and my brother was just a child, so he kept loading me up with the cheap vino. I quickly became legless and vomited everywhere, which necessitated us calling for a taxi to take us back to the hotel. My mother never let him forget it.

First legal pint was Bristol City at home when we lost 3-1 I think, midweek game that happened to fall on my 18th birthday.

Couple of weeks after was the Sparta Parva Christmas party with a few posters on here when I was given a nice dirty pint in Yates'. Remains the worst drink I've ever had, with the possible exception of a 'Geordie Bomb' in Newcastle.

At my cousin's wedding at some farmhouse in Northamptonshire, I was 14/15. I was trollied off about 3 pints of Strongbow. Took my mum & dad's and sister's room keys thinking they were mine, but I already had the one to mine and my brother's room in my pocket. They had to get reception to come and open the door and I was passed out on the floor with 3 separate room keys.

First legal one was Sharnford Arms with my Dad on my 18th, then went out with mates to Square Bar, Yates's and Republic of course.

First full pulled pint was, I believe, a pint of Tiger in Mahketahbra Conny Club when I was about 13. My old man used to take us there because he likes a cheap pint, not because he liked the shitty paintings of Maggie, ageing decor and faint whiff of stale piss. I remember quite liking it, considering I didn't really like beer at the time.

For some reason we started on Newcastle  Brown when I was about 16 in the Curzin Arms in Twycross, it’s a fancy restaurant nowadays but back in the mid 90’s they’d serve anyone!

First pint I bought myself was a Fosters at the Forge in Glenfield, I didn't even like it then - I was mulling it over in a world of my own what I wanted, barmaid asked me I panicked and ordered a pint of urea.

Can't remember first pint but the first time I got pissed it was aged 14.  12th June 2000 (thanks Google).

England v Portugal in Euro 2000 and my parents were out so had three mates round to watch the match. Just before kick-off I found a crate of Budweiser in the kitchen and we set about finishing it. We went 2-0 up and I was fine. We then proceeded to lose 3-2 and I was inconsolable and cried my eyes out for a good ten minutes.

After that I calmed down and had a craving for a Muller Rice so left all my mates in the house whilst I walked the 15 round minute trip to the shop to get one, puking all over the road on the way back.

Very classy.

In my youth,Young Teenage years to 20th Birthday,I Seen the Price of beer,

Go Up before decimal  from 1sh/05 pence,to 2bob,then 12.o5 new pence.

It was the era of dads n uncles brewing their own.The off-license,and

Social-clubs probably at their Peak

I was a strapping Young Lad,had sideburns at 14.so Got Drinks in Pubs, without any Hassle

Joined South-Leicester rugby Club, and played for the colts at then the Young age of 13.

Didnt Drink at Club until of age...but

My First Drinks ,was cider with mates, then onto Mild,or stout.with chasers.

My older Cousin gave me a strong shandy, when I was 11.Fun but No effects.

I have been "merry" on several occasions but only really Drunk once... My 21st Birthday...

My father and I,could Drink alot, without getting Drunk. It wasnt a Macho Thing, or Proof of

Manhood,we Steered  clear,of dozos who wanted to challenge us to Drink us under the

table ,and we never went Out to Drink to get drunk.

The normal consumption,of a Working man ,might look something Like this...

Weekdays(Not every day) 2-3 pints,a Session. Thursday day(Payday) depended on

Individual,Thursday was a big Training day/evening for me.

Friday night at SClub or with bestmates, 5-8pts,Saturday Lunch 5-8pts,Saturday night 10-12pts

Sunday Lunch,4-6pints,Sunday night..6-8pts.In my cliques/Friends/own Situation on

Sporting agendas, that would Drop, but Not by much. Those Sessions would also involve,

Chasers,Shorts etc.Then onto Nightclub s either Baileys/Fusion/6hills,/ Freewheeler/Annabelles,

Back to my 21st Birthday....1st Port of call Saturday, played for 1st Team,3pints after Game.

Loved Ginger Beer shandies( Ginger Beer with bitter/mild),or with Grapefruit...

Early evening, went to the Pub where I Normally worked, had 1pt then 3cognacs bought by

My friend and Landlord/guest...

Then went on ,ca 19:30 to my Family Party .Friends/Family paid for my Drinks,my parents,

Paid for the Party Buffet and music...I decided then,to Keep to one Drink,so I kept to Cognac,

Pub allowed me to buy the bottle..drank neat,or with lemonade.Plus 2 rum n coke, Glass of orange.

The Party lasted 8:00-01:00. Great Party,Drink flowed.

Afterwards we found Out I drank, nearly 2 bottles of courvoisier.Through the whole Party,No

Probs, then wrapping up the night, guests slowly going Home, then my Cousin, she Offered me

a Last Glass of White wine, to Finish the night...a Last Toast with her and nice kiss,

still Feeling top and a bit tipsy..went out in the nice fresh air,to get into the Taxi...WHAM!!!

It Hit me...I was out!!     mam+dad,Cousin and Sisters, told me laughing....the next day.

I walked to the Taxi Shooting off Jokes, went to Open the door, then collapsed in a stupour.

Couldnt remember a thing..from those Last 5minutes.

Slept Like a Baby until 12:00, Not once was I sick,had a slight headache,but had a Pint

of Lager-Lime with my Sunday Roast...That 1 Last Glass of wine,Just Kipped me over.

Drinking culture, has ITS Twist and turns, and I do believe more people Drink

more at Home today than ever.I dont Know if its true,or Just OTT Media, but

It seems though we were Solid drinkers,Back in the 60s and 70s,

More Young Girls Drink heavier, and guys n mates plan to Go on real binges.

From women Talk Shows,it also seems that the Middle class Woman,

Enjoy a regular Glass of wine at Home, besides the Friends/Family evening Dinners.

UK seems to have an high consumption,of social drinking, plus Younger people

have some Idea, that you cant have a good Holiday, without getting stupidly Drunk

2-4 times.

I have been, there, read the book Seen the Film, and done the crazy, got the T-Shirt,but

Though I did Drink heavy, and had normal big Sessions, even when competing in Sports

at an high Level,I  understood, the Couple of friends having that urge for an Odd binge,

but how it is portrayed today and become a "in Thing" of the Moment,is beyond me..

I would have been 16. Wreaked Valley 6th Form Christmas party at Syston Rugby Club. I was drinking strongbow that night (I haven't touched the stuff since, cheap nasty drink for people who don't know what real beer is - basically a 16 year old me)

Women don't drink pints?

My mate buys his wife two half’s as he said he it isn’t womanly like drinking pints.

I think it's a generational thing - my late father was shocked when my Mrs asked for a pint. In his day it was viewed as being 'un-ladylike'.

I can remember getting horrifically drunk on Archers, for some reason, when about 16 in a birthday do at a village hall. Threw many times on the door then passed out in my own vomit :( Can't even smell the stuff anymore, not that I'd want to in any case.

In terms of beer, first one I had was aged about 13 a Special Brew at a family do that somebody had brought along (who does that) - asked my Dad if I could have a tinnie and he said yes, went to the fridge not knowing anything about lagers and thought it looked good. After 2 sips I remember hating it but was determined to drink it as I was rarely allowed any form of alcohol then by my parents.

First legal beer - Kronenbourg at White Hart (Wetherspoons) in Aylesbury on my 18th party out, had about 5 more, got sick in the toilets and went home after about an hour. Still get reminded about that 10 years later :(
