Burnley post match 2-1 loss

Have no idea how people can think that was awful. The first 10 minutes yes but after that we were all over them. Three free headers, hit the post and that was in the first half alone. We absolutely battered then and it would have been an injustice if we only got a point.

Getting rid of Puel at this stage would be a backward step. He is trying to reshape us like no manager has tried previously. Give him his chance to get the players in the summer capable of playing his system THEN judge him. At the moment, we're between 2 places with a manager trying to adapt us to a style we don't have the players (particularly defensively) to play. He wants players that are comfortable on the ball, not prone to panicking and capable of hitting a simple pass to a team mate; perhaps surprisingly, that's not what we've got in a few positions.

I really don't share your optimism about Puel's capabilities - based on the fact that he doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes and bangs the same drum week after week - but I'd love nothing more than to get a 'told you so' message from you when he leads us into Europe for the third year in a row!

This Puel out nonsense is unreal. Watching today we had an unbelievable amount of possession in their half, loads of play in the final third. The players need to take a large share of the blame. The issue is clearly ability, I’m sorry but the squad is simply not good enough to play a more possession based style, and the alternative has been found out - we saw that under Shakey. Puel can’t help the squad he inherited, and god knows he tried to clear some of it out in January. We’ve seen player power at the club before and frankly I think it’s because a different way of playing frightens them. 

 

What i I saw today today was a lack of professionalism. I don’t mean that they players don’t care or aren’t trying, they really did try especially second half. More their professional ability to make good decisions, or play the right pass. It’s been the case all season, good passing and movement mixed with some really poor mistakes. Football is about the little moments not just the major moments.

 

I’m not picking on anyone in particular but Morgan, Simpson, Shinji etc are best their best. Chilwell looks a good player but at times he is so naive. At one point the ball looped out for corner and kasper just booted it, instead of catching the ball and making sure Burnley took their corner quickly. Nacho coming to the half way line with two men behind him, arms stretched out for the ball, to do what pass is back to Morgan. He should be showing for the ball much higher and creating space for others. 

 

A lot of these players have been at the club a long long time, and for me it’s all a bit stale. Poor passes and decision making are not Puels fault he’s just easier to blame. 

 

If after the summer things stay the same fair enough call for his head. But he needs a bit of time ffs.

After the first 10 minutes we were the better team but you can’t give teams that kind of lead so early. 

 

Had enough chances to win the game but we are reliant on Vardy to score every chance he gets. 

 

I want ant to give Puel the summer but he needs to finish the season with some sort of optimism. Southampton will

win on Thursday, they will want it more than our players.

Ive been critical of puel but today we had the better of he play and the chances..I sincerely hope he drops Simpson and Morgan next game...bring dragovic back in and amartey at rb

I think it’s difficult to disassemble a squad with the history ours has, he needs a real granite reason to get rid of players like Simpson and Morgan, right now they’re giving him that reason and he’ll have fan support to reshape the squad as he sees fit

Personally I think Puel is just giving the old deadwood enough rope to hang themselves. They aren't up to it, he knows it, they know it (hence the moodiness) and it will be easier to move them on now we are falling apart. He's just using these games to judge them and then he will sort it in the summer

This is exactly right, the rest of the season is irrelevant now and he’s done enough to secure his future with us in my opinion, the players will go.

At something like £2m a place in the premiership this is an expensive strategy

There is a bit of an issue now.  The team cant play the way Puel wants, that’s quite obvious.  But there’s a hell of a lot of players that need replacing in order to do so.  Now we could get another manager in thats happy to revert back to twatting it up to Vardy, but realistically, the players comfortable with that only have a couple of seasons left in them at best.

 

Puel wants us to be more positive and move the ball quicker, he’s said it enough times now so the problem is in the personnel so we really have little

choice but to say goodbye to Wes, Simpson, Fuchs and Shinji for definite.  Gray, Chilwell and Iheanacho i’d persist with but they need to improve markedly and realise their potential.  

 

From about the 20th minute today we were the better team and absolutely battered them.  We should really have been level at half time and overall, it’s a game we should have won.

 

Now.  7th is gone.  There aren’t enough games left for us to put a run together and Burnley to evaporate away a 9 point lead so what do we do for the remainder of the season?

 

Personally, I think Hamza has shown enough to keep his spot and Wes has definitely done enough to lose his.

 

For the next game, i’d like to see:-

Albrighton  Dragovic  Maguire  Chilwell 

   

             Choudhury      Ndidi

The optimist in me still hopes we’ll reap the rewards of this transitional season next year.

 

Its clear we need to be targeting creative attack minded players in the summer, who can not only play the style Puel wants but who’ll give us the attacking threat we’re lacking right now. 

 

We aren’t as terrible as some make out. We’ve been a bit unlucky in a number of games but you could argue we’ve enjoyed some good fortune in previous seasons - I think it’s something that evens out over time.

 

What I find amusing though is those who say “this is what Southampton fans were on about last season.” 

 

Look at where they are this season? 

 

One good cup run and 8th or relegation battle? I know which scenario I’d be happier with if I was then.

 

If we still lack any fight in the first half of games after the summer then I think more of us will get concerned, but right now we need to accept that this season has all been about transition. We’re still top half of table, and if we want to genuinely fight for Europe in the future we need to be patient.

Not even close to wanting Puel out. for reasons that have been talked about many times on these forums from the remain club.

 

I honestly don't think as a TEAM we played THAT bad today, it was a massive improvement from the Newcastle game last week. 1st half not so much but 2nd half YES, If stats are your thing, and i think they are worth looking at, we were by far the better team today. (Is it all about having good stats and losing NO, but still worth a glance at.)

 

Gray played well today as did Ben, with Nacho often coming on as a good impact sub. Diabate and Choudray also had good games. 

 

One of our problems today was Wes and to an extent Simpson (the latter doing ok in the 1st half.) I get we cant play Amartey as he is injured or just coming back from injury but Wes? There has to be more of a reason he is being chosen over Drago and i don't believe in this 'player unrest tosh' No manager worth his weight, his reputation and his JOB would play someone with lesser capability, especially if they fit more into his style of play. I srsly dont understand it. 

 

2nd evident problem to me was the lack of mid-field, we have come to rely on N'didi and without him we struggle, especially when you take into account Shinji wasnt anywhere near what we needed him to be.

I know people will slag off James and moan about Iborra being slow but Silva's passes today were awful. He played well against Newcastle and i had high hopes for him for this game, but feel he should have been alot more focused and done alot better. 

 

Anyway not like me to make such a rash and LONG post, especially after the game, so over and out.

 

European football next year perhaps?
