It was actually Rodgers leaving for you guys that really made me think about it. One person will argue the bigger club is the one playing in the bigger league against better and more competitive opposition. Equally someone else will point to their club being bigger as they have a richer history in terms of honours, have bigger fan base or whatever else. I think nowadays the notion of we are a bigger club than you, etc, etc is a pointless debate, particularly when things are so easily disrupted in that regard when Russian Oligarch's and middle east royalty can rock up and completely transform clubs and competitions overnight with their money. Everything seems relative now, every club bar a handful in the world are a selling club. For example you guys come and take our manager, at the next end of the scale, Chelsea come along and nick Kante. Even clubs like Man Utd, Liverpool, etc are victims of the same beast at the next level again when clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid come calling. Big club doesn't really mean a lot. It's the money and division as much as people pretend otherwise. If Bournemouth and Sunderland went for a player there's only one winner.

Wymsey Posted 13 March 2019 Posted 13 March 2019 Racism is still evident in the top-flight game.. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47552029
Guest Manini Posted 13 March 2019 Posted 13 March 2019 Genuinely cannot stand Mike Dean. He’s everything that’s wrong with modern referees. All about me me me and I wouldn’t mind, if he was any good, but he is and always has been one of the worst about.
Wortho Posted 13 March 2019 Posted 13 March 2019 I seem to remember Graeme Souness was banned/fined for telling a ref to "go boil ya heed". Not the worst thing i have heard.
Dan Posted 13 March 2019 Posted 13 March 2019 Mike Dean's played up to this celebrity ref image to mask the fact he's not actually that good a referee. Not a fan one bit.

Wymsey Posted 13 March 2019 Posted 13 March 2019 It seems as if referees are untouchable by the FA etc; despite the high level of controversy over the past few seasons made by some at the top-level and below. Perhaps they need more regulation from their bosses, like the FA needs in general as they appear quite incompetent in places.

It’s quite clearly jobs for the boys and as you say they’re untouchable. You only have to look at the has been referees that come on to Sky Sports or BT at the weekend, every decision the refs make is correct in their eyes, they’re not going to call their mates out live on national telly are they. The whole set up is a complete farce from top to bottom.
The Bear Posted 13 March 2019 Posted 13 March 2019 They are protected heavily, but on the flip side they probably get loads more abuse that we don't even hear about.
Soar Fox Posted 13 March 2019 Posted 13 March 2019 Mike Dean is a cvnt. Pearson was spot on about him 4 years ago when he said he’s one of the most arrogant men he’s ever met.

There seemed to be one word or phrase that accelerated Pochettino's anger, I presumed it was a "Oh F*** off" or something. I don't think "Go Away. Go Away. Go Away...." would have done that to be honest.
ealingfox Posted 13 March 2019 Posted 13 March 2019 Sounds more like Pochettino was being an absolute weirdo tbh

AjcW Posted 13 March 2019 Posted 13 March 2019 Just in case anyone fancied a Mike Dean update. He’s pissed of forest fans tonight. So that Spurs and Forest In the space of a week.... essentially I think this means he’s our god?

They hate him there! So, for that reason alone, I think he's top notch!
Guest Posted 14 March 2019 Posted 14 March 2019 It really doesn't matter how bad a ref he is, the manager and players need to respect the position and not confront him. If they have a problem write a letter of complaint to the relevant sports body after the match. Lack of respect for officials is one of the worst parts of the game.

Surprised to have read 2 pages of Mike Dean being berated by an overtly aggressive Pochettino (surely the sorest loser in a sport of sore losers) and the blame being put on Mike Dean. Dean is a preposterous referee and not a good one either. But neither of those things is an excuse for Pochettino’s behaviour.
peach0000 Posted 14 March 2019 Posted 14 March 2019 This constant thing of good and bad referees to me is ridiculous. I can see that mike dean with his style might wind a few people up but to suggest he is a bad referee is just wrong. To get to the stage where you are a premier league referee you have to be at the very top of the profession and they all are. It’s really not an easy job. On a premier league football pitch you have elite athletes doing everything at such a pace it makes it impossible for referees. It actually amazes me they are as good as they are.
