Baffles me that we haven’t given our best XI the longest time possible to gel. Year on year we seem to play weird combinations that have zero chance of being deployed on a regular basis. 

 

Just go go with your strongest team for 70 mins of every pre season friendly and give the bit part players playing time in behind closed door matches and the last 20 of pre season matches.

Wouldn't it be of some benefit to get some of these playing 90 minutes? In which case having the bench full of players yet to really make any appearance yet in pre-season will make it difficult to do so. This is the problem with very few friendlies and 31 players.
