You don’t want to know https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/global-club-soccer-rankings/ Short version, it’s a number “SPI” to rate each team’s relative strength. Based on some formula combining results and three statistical measures (adjusted goals and two flavors of xG). They reset it after each season, so the whole PL got quite a boost from its clubs’ performance in last year’s EL and CL. We started this season 15 or so spots above where we ended last. Though it’s a stretch to even rank the top European leagues, they keep adding more countries and lower divisions. Currently there are 629 clubs ranked, with League Two and USL (US second division) bringing up the rear. Edited 4 December 2019 by KingsX

Popular Post Dahnsouff Posted 5 December 2019 Popular Post Share Posted 5 December 2019 8 minutes ago, Foxymcoxy said: Can you paste it? “With all due respect…” We hear that phrase from time to time and while we don’t know exactly what will follow it, we know it is not going to be complimentary. By definition, the phrase is used as “a polite formula preceding, and intended to mitigate the effect of, an expression of disagreement or criticism”. In other words, it is used to sugarcoat a bitter pill that must be swallowed, and that is how it has been used repeatedly in the media to discuss Leicester City. Usually, the context is a discussion about one of Leicester’s promising young stars being linked to other clubs, and recently even manager Brendan Rodgers himself. “With all due respect to Leicester City…” numerous presenters and pundits would begin, followed usually by, “Ben Chilwell should join Chelsea/Manchester City etc, and James Maddison should go to Manchester United/Tottenham Hotspur, and Brendan Rodgers would be mad to turn down Arsenal/Tottenham if they came calling!” It may be irritating to Leicester fans to hear but it won’t stop any time soon, like the persistent drip of a leaky tap that can’t be fixed. It’s because the perception is still that this is Little Old Leicester. But the club relishes its David versus Goliath role. In many ways, it is understandable that while Leicester’s efforts this season have been acknowledged in some quarters, there is always that caveat that it won’t last and that many of the club’s players would be better off elsewhere. Leicester under Rodgers are once again defying the odds, shaking up the established top six and naturally, as was the case when they did it three years ago, envious eyes have been cast towards King Power Stadium and their emerging young stars, as well as Rodgers. Leicester are a wealthy club, but compared with the Big Six they aspire to challenge on a regular basis, they can’t compete financially. When Harry Maguire eventually joined United for £80 million in the summer he doubled his reported £80,000 per week wages. Leicester can’t pay those figures for established stars. However, Leicester is a club that knows its identity and is comfortable with what it can and cannot do. The club works within its own framework, but it retains the ambition to develop and grow until in the future it can be talked about in the same bracket as the Big Six, and that was what enticed Rodgers to Leicester in the first place — the potential of growth. Despite all the chatter around its players and manager, the Leicester hierarchy are comfortable about their situations. Rodgers has faced questioning over his own future after links with both the Spurs and then Arsenal jobs, but senior management have not batted an eyelid. It has been the same with the futures of Maddison, Chilwell and the rest. They are planning for the January transfer window and to strengthen the squad, not weaken it by selling to their rivals. Rodgers has been heavily involved in that planning and Leicester could be even more active in January if they are still in with a good chance of challenging after the festive period. “I think logic would tell you – and I know that sometimes in your world it’s not always logical this gossip and speculation – but why would I want to leave Leicester City at this moment in time?” said Rodgers. “I love coming into my work every day, working with the people here. And when you come in with that excitement and knowing the potential we have here to really grow and develop, that brings me happiness. I love the area, it’s a wonderful place to live, so when you have that combination why would I want to give that up?” Rodgers’ impassioned response to more questioning of his future on Monday may have made supporters of Watford, Swansea City and Celtic raise their eyebrows, after all they had heard something similar before Rodgers moved on from their clubs. In fact, during the first half of their win over Watford at King Power Stadium the visiting fans gave the hosts a rendition of, “Brendan Rodgers, he’ll walk out on you.” But logically, as Rodgers puts it, he has a point. What would be a better situation than he has right now that would tempt him to go? Arsenal may be a bigger club with more resources, history and fanbase, but right now Rodgers, who says he learned a huge lesson from his mistaken decision to leave Vicarage Road for Reading, is in a strong position. At Leicester, there is stability, a rare commodity in the chaotic football world. There is a plan, a vision and a purpose that was laid down by former chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and carried on by his successor, youngest son Aiyawatt. For the players, it is a similar situation. At Leicester young talent is allowed to develop and is nurtured. Maddison himself said earlier this season there wasn’t a better environment for a young player to develop. With Rodgers’ attractive and effective style of play benefiting a team on the rise with the potential to get stronger, and with a new state-of-the-art training ground and the prospect of Champions League football next season, Leicester would seem to be an attractive proposition for any young player. The lure of Old Trafford and the huge global brand that is Manchester United was too tempting for Maguire and it would be for most players. It was when Chelsea came calling in separate windows for N’Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater, and when Manchester City dangled the carrot for Riyad Mahrez, but right now Leicester are confident they can hang on to all their young stars, at least for the rest of this season, and even then it is usually only one that is allowed to depart if they so wish. In the meantime, Leicester prefer to operate under the radar. While the chat has been about the other clubs and which of Leicester’s players they should sign, not many are talking about them as actual contenders this season, despite returning to second in the table on Wednesday night. While all the focus is on the contrasting situations at the Big Six, Leicester have quietly gone about their business. The win over Watford was their seventh consecutive victory in the league. The last time they achieved that in the top flight was 1963. The situation suits Rodgers and his players just fine. “Leicester City may not be fashionable,” he recently said. “We had it last weekend [on Match of the Day], we were sat second in the table and everyone skips through as if we weren’t there. They talked about Liverpool at the top, then went to Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham. “It’s absolutely fantastic. It doesn’t bother us. They will always be deemed to be more fashionable clubs than ourselves. We just do the work. We try to win games and to develop. I’m happy for us to play well. We’re not worried if we get the headline if not. “They will always look out, whether it’s positive or negative, for the bigger clubs. That’s natural. For us, we’re only worried about the work, the progression of the team and inspiring our supporters.” For Marc Albrighton, a member of the remarkable title-winning side of 2016, the scenario seems very familiar. “The older I have got the less I look at too much media,” he told The Athletic. “I used to look on social media and have football on in my house every day. I can’t remember the last time sport was on in my house. I have three girls, so it is mostly the Disney Channel instead. “From what I have seen people aren’t really talking about us and when they do it isn’t in a serious manner. We probably prefer it that way. That happened the year we won it. We didn’t get spoken about seriously until maybe March time. I am more than happy with that and I know most of the lads are too, so long may it continue.” For defender James Justin this is all a new experience. The summer arrival from Luton Town finally made his Premier League debut against Watford and is enjoying the experience of being in a squad that is shaking up the division once again. “That is the way Leicester have always been,” he says. “No-one has really talked about us and now we are really coming people are starting to take notice. But we just focus on ourselves and don’t get distracted by all that. Hopefully, momentum can take us into the new year and then we will see where we are at.” 1

It really is, I remember when Rodgers Liverpool went on that 11 game winning run and they whole country was spaffing in their kegs about them. We're only a few games off that sequence and yet we aren't getting the same hype and I love it! Keep writing us off or ignoring us, it suits us. Keep abusing Vardy's missus, play in to our hands and we'll ruin you. What a season, what a club. 8
whoareyaaa Posted 5 December 2019 Share Posted 5 December 2019 All its going to take is for Liverpool to slip up and I think we would capitalise on that with a manager like Rodgers. Obviously Liverpool are flying at the minute but they cant win every game imo

I like merse but found his comments lately really odd. Throughout our title winning season and survival year he was incredibly complimentary of us and the way we run the club, almost seemed to enjoy it as much as we were. But he was also talking having done his research. This season it’s been the complete opposite and almost seems incredibly bitter. Can tell he hasn’t had a proper look at our squad or done his homework. He was on a sky sports panel last night with o’hara and Clinton Morrison and was pretty harsh on us if I’m honest. Obviously we’d struggle if we lost Maddison and Vardy, but so would every club in the league if you took out their two (of their) best players. Enjoyed listening to Clinton Morrison though, went and had a look at some other media work he’s done on us and is far better equipped to talk about Leicester city than most pundits. I get that the media is a product but all I ask is that they talk about us fairly having done their research. Most of them can’t even be bothered to see who we signed in the summer or who we have on the bench.

He couldn't believe that a team rooted to the bottom of the league could outplay a team like Arsenal on their own patch like that.
