The "do they mean us?" thread pt 2

I feel for Drinkwater a bit I have to admit. No matter how much he’s been earning, the guy clearly has/had demons that he has been wrestling to get under control. I certainly don’t begrudge him moving. When he left Man United he probably didn’t think he’d have the opportunity to play for one of the so called ‘elite clubs’ ever again. He probably saw it as his last chance to make it at that level - unfortunately for him, it was the wrong move and things have spiralled for him. He has undoubtedly thrown that chance away, but I’m sure there’s other things going on that we aren’t party to. We all loved that team, but it was always going to break up at some point. I certainly don’t recall many, if any histrionics from Drinks/Drinky (unfortunate nicknames nowadays!), compared to Riyads many airport trips and deadline day strike (which completely screwed us up that night at Goodison). We got a ridiculous fee for him at the right time. He took a shot, and it didn’t work out. I hope the guy works through his troubles and can get back to some form of regular football.

He literally handed a transfer request in and drove down to the Chelsea training ground to force through a move... the guys a ****. Atleast Riyad actually deserved his move.

I have said he would make our side now, just that hes had a bad run of injuries and without them he could still be the player his was in 2015/16- 2016/17

He wouldn't get anywhere near our starting 11. Not on ability and not on form. Maddison and Tielemans are CL level players in the making, Drinkwater never was and his talent never suggested he would ever be.

We got £30,000,000 for Danny Drinkwater. If the Adrian Silva deal would have gone through correctly at the time, this wouldn’t even have been a debate. In principle, it was great business. Unfortunately, that transfer window, was the end of the peak for both players in terms of footballing achievements I think.

Drinkwater was regarded as a good player for us. Who had played with an injury in 16/17. When you look at some of his post Leicester, off field antics and him going all billy big bollocks, I’m really happy with how this turned out for us; and wish him no further I’ll health.

Silva never recovered from the 14 second delay. Not that he’s really complaining, whilst sunning himself in Monaco.

I don’t feel any ill health to any of them.

It’s water under the bridge.

We’re in a better place now.

The Maguire move irritates me more.

The way Drinkwater forced his move aggravated me at the time as I thought he was great but I’ve softened a bit towards him recently. The guy has some mental health issues which were quite obvious even before the drunk driving and nightclub issues, if you’ve ever seen his Instagram account. I hope he’s getting the help he needs, he has a son to think about also and he’ll need his dad to get back on track. Starting him in the Man City game was literally the worst thing Dean Smith could’ve done for him. I wish him all the best. I can’t say the same about Riyad though and I never really liked Maguire anyway either.

funny/sad - depends on which way you look at it I suppose. Personally I always liked DD as a player for us.

Funny as in Mahrez complained about it, DD showed what it means to actually waste 2 years, not as haha funny.

Why does the Maguire move annoy you? 80M for him is incredible and it allowed Soy to come through and be a better player.

In his first season this could wash, but after that he didn't demonstrate a single thing to suggest his cieling was anywhere near that of Drinkwater in 15/16 (or even 13/14). Good argument to be made that he's pound for pound our worst ever signing.

Going off on a tangent, I wonder how easy/hard it is to blow a 5 year contract of, say, £80k a week?

Bag of fag packet stuff. £4m a year of which half goes to the tax man. So £2m in readies each year.

Spend prob 20% - 200k -on a sportsman's pension. 50k on2)3 nice holidays with first class travel. 50k blown on clothes. 60k on a car. Equivalent of 200k a year over course of a contract  on a house (prob brought outright) ....maybe 30k a year spunked on nights out. ....so I reckon leaves £27k a month to blow. And I reckon that could be blown fairly realistically on a bird, an agent, family members and general poor money management a few years after the contract has gone

Shall we start a save Drinky from bankruptcy fund?

I watched some of the Chelsea 2-2 Spurs the other day and the ensuing celebrations.

For anyone who's still got the arse about Kante, Drinkwater or Mahrez, watch this again:

Bloody love em all.

After so many years of deep disappointments and a few what might have beens I still find it hard to believe we actually won the Top English League Title.

I unfollowed Drinky when he left, but didn't see him post anything odd on Instagram while he was here. What did he do?

Trying to work out if anyone was missing... Kasper, Albrighton ??

There's an interview with Albrighton somewhere, he was at home watching with his family then made his way to Vardy's but needed a police escort to get through the crowds.

Listening to Sky sports review of Southampton just now and one of the women pipes in with they were thrashed 9-0 by Manchester City 🙄

That's unusual. Most pundits just say City and, if she had, would've been correct.

It’s been since he left really, I’m guessing when it all started to go wrong at Chelsea. He just posted a lot of quotes on his stories about being low and stuff like that. You could tell him being frozen out was getting to him, it would affect anyone. I feel bad for him, he could’ve gone about leaving us better but we all make mistakes.
