Popular Post StriderHiryu Posted 29 September 2018 Popular Post Share Posted 29 September 2018 (edited) Can't find the previous thread on him, so mods please feel free to merge this thread with an older one. When we signed Ricardo in the summer, never for a million years could I imagine Amartey as first choice right back in the team, but here we are and the guy is impressing. Compared to Chilwell he is not spectacular at all, but he improves us immensely defensively. He sits on the halfway line on the break just like Danny Simpson and is a bit better going forward and linking the play. Him starting in our team is starting to worry me less and less and he's getting close to being trustworthy in a Danny Simpson 2015/16 kind of a way. Obviously can still improve, but he had a very good game today and deserves credit for basically not putting a foot wrong. Popular Post RODNEY FERNIO Posted 29 September 2018 Popular Post Share Posted 29 September 2018 Been critical of him like many others … but been excellent in the last two matches.

wokinghamfox Posted 29 September 2018 Share Posted 29 September 2018 We could just play Danny Simpson, I can see little difference between Amarty and Simpson other than Simmo makes less mistakes. 3
UPinCarolina Posted 29 September 2018 Share Posted 29 September 2018 I like Ricardo as a winger better anyways. Lord knows we need him there now with Gray in the sick bay.

Seriously? Amartey is better on the ball, more dominant in the air and is better at going forward and overlapping with his winger.
Popular Post Ric Flair Posted 29 September 2018 Popular Post Share Posted 29 September 2018 By having him in and Ricardo at RW, it's as close to a 3-4-1-2 as we'll get under Puel. If Maddison can still get enough of the ball in the left AM role then this could be the best side and formation. Well in Dan.

Tuna Posted 29 September 2018 Share Posted 29 September 2018 He's always done ok for us when given a run in the side. Maybe we'll now see him establish himself at right back.
Kopfkino Posted 29 September 2018 Share Posted 29 September 2018 Played well today, is looking solid enough. To be honest though, still not a fan

They do both play in a similar way so this is a fair comment. But just to point out that Amartey is 23, whereas Simpson is 31. Danny Simpson will forever be remembered at Leicester for being a pivotal part of our greatest ever season and era, but he was unconvincing at the best of times last season and it's not really a surprise that he's been replaced. I do think it's harsh that he's not even considered as part of the 25 man squad, but I'd argue that Amartey at his age can only improve whereas Simpson at his probably won't. Amartey also is physically much stronger (as evidenced a number of times today) and faster at supporting the attack. Nothing against either player, I just think on a forum where there is often a lot of negativity, it's good to also praise players when they have done well. Amartey doesnt just give the ball to the other team every time he gets it. He takes a moment to find the right pass, when Simpson just twats it to nobody under no pressure.
Unabomber Posted 29 September 2018 Share Posted 29 September 2018 Like him looks pretty old for his age which makes me like him more. Like others have said I pretty much had written him off but he is one of the those players I really wanna do well. I like that Puel gives most a chance. Clever Fox Posted 29 September 2018 Share Posted 29 September 2018 I knew he would come good if handled in the right way. He's a quiet lad who needs an arm around him. I like that he doesn't take chances. Keep it up Daniel.
Jaspa Posted 29 September 2018 Share Posted 29 September 2018 He needed a run of games to get up to speed, now he's cutting out most of the mistakes and is imposing himself on opposition. Year and half ago we were all bickering about what his best position was, RB, CB or CDM, chop changed him about, didn't get a game for months at times and when he did it'd be shoehorned into a makeshift injury ridden defence next to Fuchs at CB to play against Kane, Son & Eriksen. Still 23 years old, getting the games in now and probably will continue to unless Ricardo figures out how to defend. Hope his lucks in and a hammy doesn't go twang again, he's stepping up
SheppyFox Posted 29 September 2018 Share Posted 29 September 2018 He has improved dramatically, mostly down to confidence I’d assume I want more positivity in general about things, look at Mendy aswell, he’s a beast! Let’s have less of this Puel out crap, he’s the man for the job and he’s got the boys feeling confident and playing good football.
Ric Flair Posted 29 September 2018 Share Posted 29 September 2018 He put in some performances like this past year around Jan/Feb time and then lost his place immediately after. Can't remember if it was through injury or Puel just preferred Simpson but he's got it in him to do well at right back.
ARM1968 Posted 29 September 2018 Share Posted 29 September 2018 This lad is mustard - I’ve always said it. He has the potential to be an outstanding footballer. Yes he’s prone to the odd mistake - who isn’t? But he has all the attributes to be one of the better PL players. Always said those writing him off were being premature. turtmcfly Posted 29 September 2018 Share Posted 29 September 2018 He looks very 'deliberate' when he passes the ball, which I think is what a lot of people take to be being scared of it. It's the opposite of nonchalantly stroking it around which normally you'd take as a sign of quality, but I really think it's a style thing rather than down to a lack of confidence
Mint23 Posted 29 September 2018 Share Posted 29 September 2018 I don’t think this needs to become a thread just to bash Simpson, he did the job asked of him better than anyone ever expected, defensively he’s been one of the best in the league and that’s what we needed him for. Now it’s a new manager asking something new of the full back and Amartey seems better suited, he’s no Trippier or Walker but he’s improving and given a season in the system who knows, he might actually become really good - but don’t knock Simpson or slag him off, he did more than asked of him.
