Crispin LA Posted 24 November 2018 Posted 24 November 2018 Why can't we score goals in open play, I would love us to score 3 goals in a game like Tottenham or Liverpool. Is it confidence or ability that is the issue?

Mark Posted 24 November 2018 Posted 24 November 2018 Chances created in general do seem to be less and less each week.
UPinCarolina Posted 24 November 2018 Posted 24 November 2018 Our conversion rate seems to be a larger issue. Our chances are mostly there.
Bayfox Posted 24 November 2018 Posted 24 November 2018 We have litterally not scored in 1 game this season
foxile5 Posted 24 November 2018 Posted 24 November 2018 Vardy is out of form and we don't have any other natural goal scorers at the club. Our decision to let Slimani leave loojs baffling in hindsight.

AyewJoking Posted 24 November 2018 Posted 24 November 2018 Dont concede many you dont have to score many.
crisp packet Posted 24 November 2018 Posted 24 November 2018 The commentary on my stream said we hadn’t scored in open play inside the first half? Own goals and pens?
l444ry Posted 24 November 2018 Posted 24 November 2018 Stats show that most goals are scored with three passes or less. This has been a pretty consistent fact since the seventies and before. Charles Hughes was slagged off big time for realising this. Under Puel and his kind we try to walk the ball into the net.

I heard that as well... thats completely false though. Wolves, Huddersfield, Everton. He literally just made it up on the spot

Super_horns Posted 24 November 2018 Posted 24 November 2018 This thread now means you'll probably score 3 next week!

Two goals in 4 games, 1 goal in 7 games and 0 goals once. The Southampton game is the only game where we’ve scored more than once without any goal not being from a set play and although the first wolves goal wasn’t a set play, that was an own goal. We create chances but are not clincial enough. It’s rare we’ve got more than one player in the box. We don’t commit enough people forward when building possession attacks.
David Hankey Posted 24 November 2018 Posted 24 November 2018 We never scored masses in our title winning season. Apart from Vardy, who is not the player of 2 years ago, we haven't anyone who is capable of scoring 20+ goals a season. Yes, we've plenty of strikers by not the quality to take us to the next level.
lgfualol Posted 24 November 2018 Posted 24 November 2018 We dont really have many players capable of making space for themselves and having a shot. Our wingers are all pretty uncreative and none can score (unless you count crossing as creative) and Maddison has had no influence on games now everyone just shuts him down. Nobody really makes unexpected attacking runs, everything is to feet and down the wings so teams just deal with us easily. High crosses for small forwards. Low crosses when nobody is there. Slow crosses when doing a counter. No tall attacking players anyway. Just poor decision making really and a lot of the squad are not good at shooting. Particularly long shots. Our wingers having no goal threat is actually a bit of a problem. Most teams in the league will have wingers that will test goalkeepers.

Wildly different to what I'm suggesting. With our service he scores. His goals to minute ratio was good with us. He's not the answer to every problem but you'd be a fool to argue it wouldn't be better to have him in the squad.
Usafox1 Posted 24 November 2018 Posted 24 November 2018 Madison is the reason this team struggles to score. He's a good player but he's certainly not adept at running a team the caliber of Leicester from the playmaker position. He looks good on the field but he doesn't have to what it takes to be the starting playmaker. If you're going to play him there then we need a big striker that can hold up the ball for others. I think he's scored more goals than assists but mostly from freekicks. I'd play him as a sub and start Ibora and Ndidi with nacho and vardy.

Last season under Puel we scored 4 times away from home 3 times and 3 once in three quarters of a season. We are a shadow of our former self without Mahrez. Theres been no improvement however much the local media will peddle the hype we're an exciting project. Dog shit and that's being kind. However, after the tragedy of Vichai I think we need to just stick together for the rest of the season.
StanSP Posted 24 November 2018 Posted 24 November 2018 Do goals count more if they're scored from open play?

Which stats would they be, out of interest? I'd love to see them. Charles Hughes and his kind were presumably slagged off big time because they were a huge reason why English players were traditionally so poor technically compared to their foreign counterparts
