Politics should be left out of football. It's a working class game, we're all working class regardless of who we follow, songs like "sign on" are shit, stereotypical and should be left out.

 

Ironically whenever I'm in Liverpool, for an away day or just generally, Scousers are the soundest fans I've met.

Yeah quite. No idea what the group doing that think gives them the right to speak on behalf of an entire fanbase.

 

Anti-racism stuff? Yeah, fine. That's a human issue which can affect anyone. But definitely no need to bring party politics of any colour into football unless it's deeply ingrained in your fanbase's culture.

Weird behaviour from us, but pretty much all the ones I've seen moaning about it are making helicopter jokes because they're upset at a Boris Johnson chant.

What was the BoJo song? I was there (although we missed parts of the game due to a breakdown) but didn't hear it. I don't find the feed the scousers chant that funny but it's not the most offensive chant ever.

But out of interest does anyone know what this looked like for goals like Albrighton vs Seville, Vardy vs Man United etc? Surely you appreciate the difference between a last minute winner against our closest rivals to essentially win promotion/win the league (and on a bank holiday) and a standard 2-0 home victory against a team we are much better than?

Firstly, I'm going to be slightly biased as I've lived in Liverpool for 5 years and have married into family from the area.

 

Re "feed the scousers", it's not something I'd be rushing to tell a steward or admonish individuals in public as, particularly when I was younger, I would probably be joining in.  It's a wind up, it's catchy and all the other clubs are doing it.  But in essence, it's simply "haha look how poor you are and how much you're struggling" and whether the Scouser stereotype makes it worse I don't know but of all the things you could sing about, is targeting the most vulnerable really the way to go?

 

That said, it's herd mentality and it's been made "ok" by how common the chant is and I appreciate its easy to get swept up.

 

However, I hope the people chanting mockingly about food banks reconsider what that actually means - hopefully they never have to deal with hardship in their lives as the last thing you need is someone taking the p*ss.

 

If nothing else, God knows there's enough material about Everton to mock - shocking atmosphere, terrible team despite millions spent, local rivals massively outperforming them.

The only think weirder than people who sing You'll Never Get a Job/Feed The Scousers are the people who get offended by it.

Good old football chants were designed to wind up the opposing fans as much as possible.   The intention was to mock, denigrate and insult.     So any stereotype would be exagerated and milked for all its worth eg

 

East Anglia/West Country - carrot crunching worzels.

Merseyside - poverty stricken, eating dead dogs for tea.

Birmingham - thick

Grimsby - smell of fish

Brighton - gay

Blackpool - donkey abusers

Burnley - imbreds

Middlesborugh - smog monsters

etc

 

Obviously, it's all ridiculous and shouldn't be taken too seriously.
