What should be aiming for next season?

Recommended Posts

Depends how ambitious you are.

Most on here were happy with 5th when we were clear at the top of the league.

Rodgers wants top 6. Hes said thats the aim. 7th is the prediction we will be given by most of the media and if he achieves that then no one on here will be moaning, but it certainly won't get him any plaudits of doing anything outstanding. 7th and a cup might be a different story, but i think hes more ambitious than that and if he wants to really further his career he will want to break into the top 6 while at Leicester. No doubt.

This comes up every time someone poses this question, but “win a cup” or “make a cup final” is not a goal.  Everybody wants to do it and they either do it or they don’t.

For me, Europe or bust.  Finish 6th and don’t leave it to chance whether 7th is good enough.  6th is a stretch goal but IMO, not unrealistic.

I think we really have to get into Europe or you will see some of the pieces put into place get peeled off - I actually think all the transfer-linked guys want to stay (save maybe Maguire) and see what can be built, but another season missing out could be bad news.

IF we retain this group of players, Tielemans included, and clear some wages off the books and recruit one or two more talented players (back up striker is a must) with a full preseason under Brendan - 6th place would be a measure of success. In saying that, a Cup win and 7th-10th would also achieve the same thing - Europe.

I am nervous about the summer ahead but it does not feel like another Mahrez situation is bubbling underneath the surface. It seems this group want to stay and see what is possible playing together.

To get into Europe the season after. Either by winning a cup or finishing 1st-5th/6th/7th.

European football, a new training ground, a successful manager and squad, a stadium expansion? - the start of the 2020/21 season could look very bright and attractive to start to establish ourselves as a top 6 club, which matches the owners ambitions.

Arsenal and Manchester United are there to be got at next season, even Chelsea if they lose Hazard. Then it all depends on what those currently around us do. That gap between 4th, 5th, 6th and the chasing pack can definitely be narrowed, it's then just which of those teams take advantage.

Could be anything between a crazy 4th and 11th, depending on how tinted your specs are.

We have a huge opportunity to enter the top 6 next season. Liverpool and Man City will challenge for the league again but behind them the other four are in chaos.

Spurs have to find a billion quid to pay off their stadium in the long term and may well face another summer without being able to spend. They’ll probably have to sell to buy. Sadly I think they’ll be OK and finish third again. The bastards.

Chelsea have a transfer ban coming in so other than a couple of preemptive signings coming in, they might have to rely on all that youth they’ve been hoarding. Hazard is desperate to go to Real and will probably get his wish. Sarri is totally the wrong fit with these players and without being about to overhaul the squad he will make no progress. Kante will hopefully get pissed off about being played in the wrong place and demand a move.

Arsenal still have a hangover from Wenger’s era and are in need of a total overhaul. I can totally see them dropping out of European places altogether. Please. They need to spend at least £300m, which they can’t afford in one window.

Man Utd made a mistake in hiring Ole Gunnar Shakespeare full time and they’re finding that out now. Again, they need a total overhaul of their squad in order to compete and I’m not sure if Ole is the guy to do that.

In short, this is an amazing opportunity to break into that top 6 again. Claude had an amazing summer window last year and with this squad under Brendan we have the chance to push forward. Another good summer - a quality winger, Youri and a backup striker - could be enough for us. We'll need to improve the overall squad too the following season to be able to cope with Europe and the League.

Aim for (not expect) a top 6 finish.

Why not? We've got a young side who are only going to develop, a good manager and there's a feel good factor around the club which will hopefully allow us to keep players and bring better ones in.

The major problem is that the top 6 will all be chucking £200m at their squads to try and get in the top 4 and Everton, West Ham and Wolves will all be eyeing up a challenge too.

Major competition, but it should be a good season.

6th place looks like a good target for us.

There is still a good bit of ground to make up before we catch the top 6 and it could be a gradual development like Spurs this decade should we get there.

Our squad right now is not a million miles away from where it was 2013 to 2014 where we had some promising players but a setback or two along the way before everything came together.

I could see some of the top 6 clubs scaling back if anything. A lot of them have had 'Slimani' sized flops in Fred,, Mustafi, Jorginho. Even Mahrez and Keita have underwhelmed in efficient clubs. Surely some of the clubs will have a look at their transfer policy over the summer.

And that's the problem, many can't differentiate. They think finishing anywhere but 6th is a failure if that's where you said your aim.

Just be the best we can be, all this aim stuff in terms of positions is pointless really when you can't control the fortunes of others. Wolves, Everton, West Ham, Watford could all have unreal seasons and see us 11th.
