Games moved for TV 2019/20

Recommended Posts

Keep games on a Saturday. Rescind the rule that prevents games being shown on tv at 3pm Saturday for clubs in the premier league. Make every game available via red button. Charge season ticket or pay per match to watch. Everyone’s happy.

Scheduling matches on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Friday allows the premier league to split the rights into 5 different packages and maximize the revenue. Sky/BT also have to show each team so many times - if this is scrapped and every match is shown simultaneously then the big clubs will want a larger share of the revenues rather than the collective agreement there is now.

I do wish there was some ruling that meant TV could only select Champions League teams for a Saturday on a Champions League week.  This would stop other teams having to move when either UEFA dictate that a Champions League game has to be on a Tuesday or the very same TV companies select a Champions League game meaning that the league game has to move.  Essentially SKY could have originally put our game against Newcastle on the Sunday, in the knowledge there is a chance Man City will play Tuesday.  Similarly, last year SKY didn’t need to schedule our game against Man City when they did, they edged their bets on Man City knocking Spurs out. Unfortunately when that didn’t happen our game gets moved at short notice.  I know they put theses caveats in place but we are held to ransom by TV companies.

Yeah exactly. You’ll find it abroad as well that commonly they just put the CL qualified teams on Saturdays, simple.

Without the money that Tv brings in we would not be able to have the sort of players in our team that we currently enjoy.

We’d still have the players because every team in the Premier League would be on the same money and therefore a level playing field. Add to that teams coming up (or down to) from

the Championship would be far more competitive without having to gamble.

As it stands the top six currently get more TV money than anyone else thanks to the way overseas rights deal is structured.

The idea that televising of football has helped the game itself on the pitch is largely nonsense in my view.

Sadly the big clubs already get a larger share on the overseas deal

Everyone is happy... Except for the smaller clubs further down the pyramid who will lose an awful lot of matchday support (which they rely on massively) because everyone stays in and watches prem football instead.

Those clubs are the reason the rule was created in the first place.

Yep and the minute we lose the collective deal, all clubs have their own channels, broadcast their games and the big clubs get richer as it will be those clubs that the big companies want to get advertising space for.

Does anyone think that Nike are gonna spend fortunes to advertise on Burnley TV.

Football in England sold its soul to the devil a long while ago and the only way that changes if it collapses. It's not actually the 3pm rule that's a massive problem. It's the amount of ridiculous Ko slots allowed and the occasional short notice change.

The clubs should sit down and agree to certain slots. I have no problem with a Friday Night game, a sat night game, 2 on a sunday and monday night. That should be enough really, that's half the weekends fixtures broadcast live.

But we have, saturday lunchtime. Sometimes 3 games on a sunday. Its greed and overkill.

I know it wont happen, infact look at the Amazon deal to show all games live twice this season. That's the way we are heading. But we need the collective bargaining.

Look at la liga where the top 2 have taken the lions share for year on year. They now have a position where the tv companies don't want to pay and even when ITV do they show real or Barca every week.

I really hope this does not happen. Would kill many lower league teams.

Nope they haven’t yet.

Rumour says there’s one fixture what’s causing them issues hence the delay

Many thanks. Hoping to get over for a game in November but need the tv schedule before I can book flights.

Any ideas on when they'll be announced?

How hard can it be? So annoying.

And it also has a knock-on effect for other games. Let's say Everton at home is moved to Sunday- that means Watford the next midweek is pushed back to Wednesday.

Just get on with it.

Why is their Europa League game on Wednesday?

Braga, Porto and Guimaraes all qualified for Europa League. There is some rule that there cannot be 2 games within 60 miles (I think that's the distance) of each other on the same day. Braga, Porto and Guimaraes are all within that distance of each other.

So, as there are 3, there is always a Thursday where 2 are at home. However, instead of moving each team to a Wednesday once, they have moved all three of Guimaraes' games to a Wednesday (who are in Arsenal's group). Spare a thought for their fans because it gets worse....

As Wednesday night is CL night, they cannot clash. Therefore, all of their home games kick off at 15:50 so it finishes before CL games start.

TV want Chelsea v Palace at 19:45 on the Saturday night apparently and the Met have said ram it.

Yet the Met didn't tell them to shove it with this Sundays games. All 4 games being London based with all 4 away teams coming from the north, most likely on the Euston line.

Wolves, villa, Liverpool and Man U in town  .......

interesting early evening possible around Euston as you say  .......

i guess it’s a surprise that they allowed the Chelsea game to be Sunday rather than a Saturday evening live slot but then the biggest game of the weekend tends to be sun pm if poss for sky. The others are all europa league moves so not mets decision really.

Then they can't really move them to Monday given the EFL cup on the Tuesday/Wednesday.

Europa league moves surely should still need to be agreed to by the Met? It'll be a hectic day in London for policing
