Would love to know what he became if circumstances were different. So much tragedy as a kid/young man but he was ridiculously talented. Probably the most 'head and shoulders above everyone else' performance I've seen was him on loan for Bournemouth against Gillingham.

 

Still had a great career though

Once the star of the show at Sporting CP in Portugal, Islam Slimani was meant to be the big goalscorer to help out Jamie Vardy at Leicester City.

The Algeria international was signed by the then Premier League side for a hefty €31m in 2016, only for him to last a season and a half before a string of loans saw him run down his contract, when he left the Foxes on a free transfer to Lyon in 2021.

The striker only ever managed to find the back of the net 13 times in 47 appearances for Leicester, on top of seven assists, and the 35-year-old explained what went wrong to Sky Italia, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb.

He said: “At the beginning, everything was going well. Then there was a change of manager (Shakespeare took over from Claudio Ranieri) and he preferred to bet on the players who won the Premier League the year before.
“I don’t regret anything. It was a magnificent experience. We had a great group and Leicester is a fantastic club.”

The forward also revealed that after his time at Leicester, when he was finding his feet again at AS Monaco, he was wanted by Antonio Conte at Inter Milan, whose plan was for him to help out Romelu Lukaku.

That move never came, and he has yet to taste Italian football, with those chances now likely behind him, as he turns out for KV Mechelen in Belgium, signing less than two weeks ago after a stint in Brazil with Coritiba FC.

A seldom remembered loan-player with us has recently joined Bayern Munich in an attempt to actually win a trophy. Amazingly, after winning the league 11 consecutive times and adding multiple domestic and European trophies during that time, there is a very good chance that they will end the season with nothing    ... zilch    ... zippo.

Joe Waters, great start at Leicester with a two goal debut to win a FA Cup QF v QPR in 1974 but failed to gain a regular spot, in 1976 he joined 4th division Grimsby Town on loan, the £10,000 fee was too high yet the fans contributed £2,000 to enable the Mariners to buy him. Great signing he captained the side from the 4th Division in 1979, won the 3rd division in 1980, and came close to the First Division the following season. He played 356 lge games, 65 goals before leaving for America in 1984
