Stadium Expansion...?

Recommended Posts

This some nice new grass turf going in at the KP. Surely we have one of the best playing surfaces in the premier league? If only our seating capacity was more I reckon we'd see more international friendlies being hosted. Oh well - there's always next year (covid permitting)

Almost took it for Coventry City's ground for a minute

.

The Ricoh (which is what I assume you mean, and not St Andrews ;) ) has a massive conference centre and casino bolted on the side of it and looks nothing like that.

That's true, I haven't been there for a while. It was the seats that did it, they are in a godawful state colour wise!

Anyone else see that Livepool have announced their plans to build a new stand at the Anfield Road end taking capacity from 53k to 61k

And Leeds after 1 season back without fans are planning on increasing from 39k to 55k!

Really hope we hear something soon, we're in a much stronger position than Leeds and I know we shouldn't rush it and make sure we have the funding and sustainable growth etc but we've been filling the KP for 6/7 years now, minus last season. We really should be looking at 50k+ we are surely a big enough entity now.

These announcements also have the backing from their respective city councils, I really hope ours aren't stopping this progressing, it's in their best interests to get more people into the city!

It really does feel like we are going to miss the boat on this. Its going to be annoying looking back on our golden opportunity when everything was going so right on the pitch that we couldn't replicate it with the stadium. Big, big chance to move the club massively forward. It's got to be taken very soon, or never.

Council will be behind it only if there is cycle lane access and no cars within 1/2 mile of it!

The original plans for the ground had conditions regarding park and ride schemes etc, I don't remember these ever happening (Fox travel maybe)?

I can see lots of conditions and section 106 conditions being attached to any plans we submit, the council will want to get loads of infrastructure improvements done at the clubs cost, probably rightly so as it affects access to the development. But I hope they don't get carried away with their anti-car policies. The "popup" lanes are causing so much congestion now in the city that they must be doing more harm than good now.

Give it time, if they have indeed bought the EON building that gives the club more space than ever to develop the area. They’ve not spent all that money on planning to not do anything.

At least we don’t have to be like Liverpool having to buy up neighbouring property to get space.

Given what they achieved with the training ground, I’ve got a lot of hope for the stadium expansion. I think they did it the right way round getting that infrastructure in place first.

As for Liverpool and Leeds, I would say Liverpool have a lot more income to play with than we do so can get infrastructure projects set up quicker. With Leeds they’d still need a significant amount of funding for their expansion plans as Elland road is in desperate need for an all round upgrade and not just expanding. They’d also need to get planning approved too.

Is it too much to ask the club to give us some sort of a wink and a nod just to let us know that it's still being worked on? Or not.

What happened to the Vichai Statue?

I know where you’re coming from. I think

the pandemic has created a lot of uncertainty even if there are benefits to doing the build now.

I hate to be devils advocate but they have just completed a massive project with the training ground (a vastly more expensive build than the King Power). They’ve also advised the stadium expansion is still on the cards in the latest accounts so while its not an official statement, the intent is definitely still there.

As far as I know, planning permission is good for a few years on the statue. The club may be looking to tie it all in together for 1 big pr stunt, eg unveiling the statue along with the plans for the Stadium and surrounding area redevelopment.

We should have looked into building a new stadium in a different location as we did with the training ground or at least upgraded the stadium over the past year whilst fans were not in stadiums.

....covid, it was not going to be viable, there would have been additional cost as the project would have to be extended, in view of social distancing!!!

I agree.4-5 years ago 42k would have been adequate. But by the time the KP is developed aswell as the surrounding area,It will need expanding again with the way the club is moving forward.

I think 45k minimum at this point with room to expand more.

we shall see.

Looking forward to hear some news.
