fazzyfox Posted 8 April 2023 Posted 8 April 2023 Although his prime role was to defend I liked the way, like Maguire, he would bring the ball out and begin moves from the halfway line or higher rather than give to Mendy to shuffle backwards, Ndidi to hit the randomiser button - it could go anywhere or Amartey “Oh S**t what is this strange spherical leathery thing at my feet, is it a hot potato”. Faes tries to but Soyuncu would advance us up the pitch quicker which seems to have strangely been a bug bear of Rodgers who wanted the ball “looked after” as if those three were Xavi, Pirlo and Rio Ferdinand. I just sense that following the Spurs and Forest debacles and being called out by Rodgers, everyone reacts in their own way and Soyuncu just saw one way forward - out. 2
Popular Post JamesWelshFox Posted 8 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 8 April 2023 Yet another situation not helped by Rogers. Was the plan don't play him people won't look at him then and he'll have to sign a new deal ? No, he's gonna leave for free. Again, the position should have been here's the deal sign or be sold. And it might not be ideal but we then sell for the best price we can get, because for sure it is better than players then walking for free and our getting nothing for them whilst having paid their salaries for 2 years. Terrible way to run any business. 6

It was telling that Saddler didn't include him in the squad!!! He must have alienated himself from the first team players not just BR and I am a huge BR critic. He’s been out of the team for 18 months. If, as Rodgers has suggested, he’s not been training to a professional standard then how is he still at the club? He should’ve been fined, stuck in the reserves, shipped out 12 months ago or sacked for breach of contract. It’s unbelievable how badly this situation has been managed. Soyuncu was an outstanding defender for us. Yes he had flaws - he was headstrong, he sometimes had rushes of blood to his head (e.g. Bournemouth away) but ultimately he was a good player for us. Why did his standards slip in training? What actions did the management team take to correct the situation, to bring him back into the team? Why was he not sold/loaned/chucked to the U21’s/suspended/sacked? If the lad was not training properly it seems the club have done nothing - continued to pay his full wage, continued to keep him within the first team group, allowed his value to drop to zero now. It’s the lack of any action that makes me think it’s less about him not training and more a breakdown in his relationship with Rodgers.

He has / had a value... So he was never going to be castagated or vilified as the situation requires careful action. He is a great defender.. Yes some flaws but he should be in the x11and definitely in the squad when fit.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 8 April 2023 Posted 8 April 2023 (edited) It is bizarre that we just aren’t playing him, we need his pace at the back and he is a far better option than Amartey. I know he is going but so are most so why not? Edited 8 April 2023 by foxes_rule1978

He clearly has sorted himself and is half arising it so he doesn’t get injured. Definitely not what we need in a relegation battle. Nor are Youri or Maddison tbh.

Popular Post Tommy Fresh Posted 15 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 15 April 2023 Imagine how respectable we'd of actually looked with Iversen all season and a Soyuncu who hasn't been thrown under the bus at every opportunity. 14
Popular Post Pliskin Posted 15 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 15 April 2023 It’s just proof that Brendan was willing to sacrifice the team to stroke his ego. 23

Popular Post HitchinFox Posted 15 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 15 April 2023 To think that we had Cags on the sidelines, while Rodgers kept picking f***ing Amartey is criminal. Literally. A sackable offence as it's gross negligence of the highest order. 9
studentofthegame Posted 15 April 2023 Posted 15 April 2023 Rodgers and his massively inflated ego have probably cost us our premier league status, but also more than likely cost us Soyuncu's future at the club, which is just really sad 1
The Doctor Posted 15 April 2023 Posted 15 April 2023 great performance, his treatment by Rodgers is part of the reason why we're in this mess 4
funkyrobot Posted 15 April 2023 Posted 15 April 2023 The mismanagement by Soyuncu has been appalling. That was not the performance of a player that doesn’t care. Great to see him back today. 4
daddylonglegs Posted 15 April 2023 Posted 15 April 2023 There’s always more to stuff like this than meets the eye, but it is a really weird situation. Atletico shitting Madrid think he’s good enough for the champions league but Rodgers felt otherwise! 2

Same here, but I think that was just the Rodgers PR machine in overdrive. Really proud of Cags, treated like a leper all season, but comes back and shows he's one of the best defenders at the club. The way he plays, aggressive with proactive forward passing, Rodgers must've been livid with him, the little ****.
AKCJ Posted 15 April 2023 Posted 15 April 2023 You don't have Diego Simeone constantly trying to sign you if you're shite. 2 1

Rodgers needed a third Centre Back and you could see that Caglar was heavily strapped in the training videos. Pretty much a smokescreen by Rodgers.
