No political discussion in this topic. That is complaining about a country, a politician, a party and/or its voters, etc

And now just wait for the mental gymnastics to justify why person from preferential team "x" making a mistake is an acceptable misunderstanding, but it's outrageous for individual from opposing team "y" to make numerical errors, because of "slight arbitrary difference (a) and (b) and (c)"

I'm waiting for @MattP to comment lol

When Priti Patel walks the streets on election day with two left shoes from different pairs on her feet we will compare her to Diane Abbott.

Until then I hope she actually implements laws that properly punish criminals and keeps her sexy grin.

Pretty much what I'd say but in different words lol

The double standards are not surprising I guess.

I guess the difference is she is reading from a script, if it said seamen stains to the laundry unit she would have said it, the fault lies with the proof reader?

Di was winging it and winging it bad.

Priti Patel misspoke.  Big deal.

Dianne Abbott on LBC was excrutiating.  She told us that 10,000 new police officers would cost £300,000 over four years.  Pressed on that ridiculous statement she had a good think and then said £80m.  Still ridiculous.  Then as she was pressed again she finally completely lost it claiming an extra 250,000 police officers at a cost of £64.3m.

I think at that point the she had to be led away by matron.

If you think those two events are the same, you're as mad as she is!

...And if Dianne Abbot had said that, then all the flag-flying Tories on here would be wanking themselves into a frenzy for the next 6 months.

What like the flag hating lefties are now you mean.

The government have said there's only five more days left of lock down. We're alright.

That will be the prevailing attitude.

They should've just said 'three more weeks' and underlined the seriousness of it. The idea of rolling weeks implies an imminent end.

If they said how long its really gonna be, it might cause mass panic

I'd forgotten just how bad it was lol

Comparing it to Priti Patel is laughable.

Your side put her up for election, you deal with it.

The point is not the figures they got shamefully wrong (both of them). It's the fact they did it in the first place. And the consequent predictable reactions lol

Seriously, don't you understand the difference between a single slip of the tongue and the bat-shit ramblings of a woman repeatedly displaying that both her arse and elbow are strangers to her?

Surely you're not so partisan as to claim they are the same thing?

I'm not saying they're exactly the same. Stop being so obtuse.

My point is more the fact the reaction Abbott gets (for any mistake, yes the afore-mentioned was embarrassing of course), compared to any mistake a Tory could ever make. Be it a slip of the tongue or something worse. Tories are almost indefensible when it comes to this kind of thing :dunno:

Having said that, not being able to read out numbers properly is embarrassing in itself, regardless of comparison to anyone else.

Whilst I understand the concern and angst of frontline staff, I do think that people are underestimating the PPE distribution and procurement challenge this country is facing.  Knowing many military personnel involved in this, all I can say is that it is not through a lack of effort that this issue is dragging on.

I love you unquestioning love for Pretti Matt, I really do. I brings a tear to my eye to see such devotion to an honourable person and cause.

So please tell me how these last six years of Labour government have left criminals unpunished? I'd love to know.

And if you can explain it without posting yougov intentions and daily express opinion polls my heart will beat with a boundless joy.

Obtuse?  You're making a direct comparison between the two events.  I'm saying one is the Niagra Falls of cock ups and the other is a simple slip of the tongue.  Completely different and ridiculous to make the comparison.  To try and show some balance, I guess the nearest thing I can come up with from the tories would be Michael Howard's squirmingly evasive Paxman interview, but even then, the sheer thick-headedness of Abbott's interview just puts her in a different league.

Did I do that?

I didn't actually mention Abbott's specific car-crash of an interview. I can accept & admit she can be embarrassing and made a howler though.

Somehow when a Tory does it, it's a 'slip of the tongue' and let's move on.
