This is probably a completely stupid opinion, but it always grates me when politicians are reading from notes or a teleprompter that someone else has written up. Would rather see them have knowledge of the research/data and speak from the heart.

That speech from Boris just doesn’t feel natural, almost robotic.

I know what you mean, but I think they had been planning to make the announcement on Monday, but a leak forced them to bring it forward, hence the 4pm, 5pm, 6pm fiasco. Don't think they had my time to familiarise themselves.

Going to the gym is as essential as food shopping for many.

I work in Atherstone and live in loughborough. I start at 8am and try and go gym before work, so when in there there are about 10 people max. Also pure gym a limiting numbers, you can't even get in if its full. It unfair to close them when they taken so many measures to prevent the spread.

Edit: I should add thats a 40 minute drive, so I give myself an hour to get there and I like to an hour at the gym, so to give myself time to shower and change, I'm getting there really early.

Living in Wales and already being in lockdown, gotta say our firebreak over half term and an extra week seems to make alot more sense than what Boris is doing.

The idea of supermarkets not selling essential items, whilst ridiculous does seem to have kept people at home.

My message to you guys, is this lockdown will be alot harder than the summer. The crap weather and nowhere to go makes it even worse. I've got 2 young kids they've been climbing the walls.

As far as I can make out, gyms have been extremely responsible in managing the attendance of their customers. My gym (yes I do go) restricts the numbers and I have to book each session. I have to go home sweaty in my gym gear to have a shower as the changing rooms and showers are off limits. I would have no problem with them being allowed to stay open. Schools too, actually. My issue is with the universities. The students will continue to socialise outside of any 'bubble' and will get together in each others accommodation having bought alcohol from Tesco or wherever.

Spot on. Going to the gym is a big part of my life for managing my mental and physical wellbeing. I arrange my work and childcare responsibilities around it and it's a huge priority for me. Guess I'll have to make do with going for a run in the pissing rain for a month

I go to puregym loughborough in the morning and its always absolutely rammed. I don't think gyms should be shut but they are definitely somewhere it would spread. Nobody ever does the track and trace so the data would never show infections gained there.

Absolutely. The gym is my solace. I really struggled in the first lockdown without it. I felt crap physically and it massively affected my mood. Its too easy just to blanket close everything. The massive negative impact on physical and mental health far outweighs the risk of covid in a gym. Appalling decision.

Same for me, it's been a centre piece of my week to help me work off the frustrations and built up annoyance from work and life. I'll properly struggle at first
