Curious to know what those that are desperate to know testing figures do with the results, if they say Monday we tested 85k Tuesday 120k but on weds only 60k what is it you then do with that detail?

It's the inaccuracy and incompetence of it all, not necessarily doing anything with the data after.

But I'm not going to get in to the politics of it all because it's got me suspended before.

I went to donate blood plasma last week…. Turns out I have COVID antibodies in my system….

Quite reassuring, but, goes to show how many people Probably had it….

Scary things is that I was at the KP for the Villa match 2 days before I started getting mild symptoms…. I’ve had trickier colds if I’m honest…

COVID antibodies or COVID19 antibodies? I'd imagine the vast majority of people would have COVID antibodies...

did you think you had it ? presumably to donate plasma , you must have been pretty convinced (yet you say your symptoms were v mild).

Symptoms were comparatively mild…. One night of fever…. Cough and sore throat as well as a bit tired…. Was fairly certain it was CV19…. My wife had it and my daughter was sent home with a temperature (one dose of calpol sorted her

A friend of mine is a social worker and she encouraged me to sign up as I’d given blood before…. As I’m a 35+ male I was prioritised…. Unfortunately my antibody levels weren’t high enough to help with convalescent donor programme, but, I am back in next month to donate blood as I can do relatively safely for everyone involved…

Ok - I hadn’t given blood before so no idea if the donor experience is comparable ..... I expect my antibody numbers in week or so - would be a shame if my plasma isn’t useful but given the time lag since I had it, may well not be

It’s a very high benchmark (I discovered retrospectively). Most don’t have high enough antibody levels (even many who were hospitalised)…. I was a bit disappointed I couldn’t help,

However, I can now return to licking handrails around the streets of Leicester!

Good luck 👍🏼

Honestly, I don't think there's anything fishy going on here, they simply don't know due to the nature of the outbreak.

So why tell us they do know? Why tell us they're conducting 100000+ tests a day. The red flag to me was when they said this, but also said people showing symptoms could get tested. As if 100000 per day were showing symptoms.

They're having their 1918 style 'second wave' even though it's a continuation of wave one. It's due to opening up too soon and incompetent leadership from Trump and his state governers. I think Europe (us, France, Spain, Germany, Italy) should avoid this as we do seem to have gotten our act together.

Trump needs to go in November. He'll blame everyone, China, the WHO, the Democrats, anything but looking in the mirror. A truly pathetic individual.

I'm surprised he hasn't bamed Jeremy Corbyn yet.

They do know, the numbers have been released for Leicester, but from what I can see not for all cities.

Also the bbc have reported Leicester is at 120 per 100k people, higher than the other report, so the numbers are all over the place depending on the news media.

Have you not heard about the Leicester City lockdown?

The number of tests vs results is useful for looking at infection rates, and to get this data on a per city basis is very important to determine if there is a link between increased testing and higher positive cases in Leicester.

I have had responses from the Guardian, the Telegraph, and the Daily Mail, they are all trying to get the per city pillar B testing count.

The BBC initially were interested (local east mid branch), but once I told them the specifics, they lost interest as if they refusing to go against government agenda.

waiting for my test results to come back in but it’s nailed on i have it.

the aching is bad, the constant coughing is so annoying and painful the fever/ shivers  keep me up at night, but i have experienced all that in one way or the other before...however the weirdest thing about it is not being able to taste or smell anything... it’s just bizare to put a piece of chicken in your mouth and taste NOTHING. just feel this slime like slug thing in your mouth and then the exact same thing with broccoli.. NOTHING... can’t taste any drinks they all taste like water. it’s put me off my food to be honest and i have lost a few pounds but i needed to anyway lol

my wife got it too at the same time ( had a family member pop in for a few ) and it’s been difficult trying to watch the kids when we have both been laying there like we just got K’Od by Mike Tyson... rough few days.

It’s mad though because i had been working with covid-19 patients and had been so careful never to take my mask off or bring anything home.. ONE relative stops by and BOOM. was so mad..

I can see how the £1000 payment per employee retained until 31st Jan might help some businesses that are currently borderline non-viable. It might be enough to persuade some such to give it a go until January, when they'd have otherwise closed or made severe cutbacks immediately. That might give them a few months to assess the impact of Covid19 on demand over a longer period - and to work out ways of adapting their business to recover viability.

But the obvious risk is that customer demand remains inadequate (with or without a 2nd wave) or that their business simply cannot be made viable while social distancing measures apply, as overheads (not just labour costs) remain higher than income.

That risks up to £9bn of public funds (probably less) being wasted, essentially keeping jobs & firms going for a few months when they have no real future - IF demand doesn't recover or viability is no longer feasible due to distancing.

Of course, it won't be a waste if demand does recover - and particularly if social distancing can be greatly reduced or eliminated (vital to the viability of hospitality, aviation & possibly rail & high-street retail, I'd have thought).

But that shows the economic (as well as health) importance of getting on top of the virus and keeping on top of it, so that people feel safe going out to pubs/shops, taking planes/trains or whatever - and feel confident in the authorities.

I suppose there'll be punters at each extreme - those who'll go out regardless of what happens and those who'll be too scared regardless.

But I imagine that a lot (myself included) will be somewhere in the middle.....ready to go out and spend, use services or travel if the risk seems low, but not if it seems high - or if they don't trust the authorities to tell the truth & keep folk safe(ish).

well we can’t really send them anywhere as they have probably got it too- they are basically not eating the healthiest of fully cooked meals right now. lol . They are not being neglected but the 7 year old gets to play his wii a bit more las few days. that kind of thing. sometimes you do what you got to do.  i’m still playing games with him and reading to him but it’s totally exhausting

I would imagine that the thinking is that it is counter productive to widely share the data with the public when you trying to raise consumer confidence at the same time. The economy has clearly got to be opened up as we will be unable to last until a vaccine is available (if at all).  Obviously I am conscious that relying on the government to handle the data appropriately is unpalatable to some.

My taste and smell disappeared for at least 3 weeks and even when it did come back, it didn’t seem as good as before.

I caught it from Cheltenham after spending weeks of being extra careful (I usually wash my hands loads anyway). Even at Cheltenham I didn’t handle cash, tried to stay away from people and again kept up the hand washing. Crazy how easy it is to catch it.

that’s an excellent point.

I never thought that ‘ tightening the belt’ or ‘ coping’ were viable options anyway..
