Leicester and Newcastle interested in signing Todd Cantwell from relegated Norwich... with Manchester City also long-term admirers of the midfielder

  • Todd Cantwell has impressed during Norwich's difficult Premier League season
  • The midfielder is the subject of fresh interest from Leicester and Newcastle
  • As reported by Sportsmail in January, Man City are also long-term admirers
  • Cantwell is City's second highest scorer having scored six times from midfield

Leicester and Newcastle have joined the list of clubs interested in Norwich's Todd Cantwell.

Midfielder Cantwell, 22, has caught the eye during a difficult season for the Canaries with confirmation of their relegation coming last week following defeat against West Ham.

Cantwell, though, is the subject of fresh interest from Leicester and Newcastle which could lead to him see remaining in the Premier League next season.

Cantwell is City's second highest scorer having scored six times from midfield and also set up two more goals in his first top-flight campaign.

As reported by Sportsmail in January, Manchester City are also long-term admirers.

Manchester United and Tottenham are also among the sides who have assessed Cantwell this season along with Bayern Munich, as the German giants continue to keep an eye on rising UK-based talent.

How much fourth-placed Leicester ultimately have to spend on transfers this summer will hinge on Champions League qualification with a big outlay unlikely if they miss out.

Newcastle's transfer plans are not yet finalised, due to the uncertain status of their takeover, though both clubs have made their interest in Cantwell known.

England under-21 international Cantwell was one of the City youngsters handed a new deal last summer following their promotion to the Premier League along with Ben Godfrey and Max Aarons.

Norwich are hopeful they can retain their prized assets though are braced for offers which will test their resolve.

Manager Daniel Farke said: 'We are in a solid financial situation and no pressure at all. I am pretty confident that we keep all best players.

'The good thing is that it is not like we need to earn money. I expect all key players and young prospects are willing to stay and we are capable of keeping them.'

Norwich are hopeful of keeping their other prized assets like Max Aarons and Ben Godfrey

6 goals and 2 assists in the league.

The thing is - how much do they want? He's got two years on his contract and they'll want £20+ million.

Plus, are they taking the money from PL and running, so they can come straight back up and have a better squad? Or are they looking to secure their long term future?

There's a few in there that are tasty but, you have to remember, they've been pretty rubbish overall.

Stats prove nothing. 6 goals and 2 assists for one of the worse sides in the league yet probably still a better return/or as close as a return as Maddison and he plays for a side pushing top 4.

Similar with Grealish too. Consider these players are in sides that will go down.

Apart from Maddison!

You won’t get the bargain like you did with Maddison. Norwich are awful but ironically have players worth decent Money. This time the club are not desperate to sell to survive so like yourselves with Maguire Norwich will play hardball and demand a big fee.
