Rodgers ended badly with Liverpool. But how was it a failure? It was Liverpool's best league finish since Rafa in 08/09 (I think). Yes he bottled it at the end especially that Chelsea home defeat. But his overall time at Liverpool was not a failure.

I think what killed him was a failure to properly replace Suarez (and subsequently Sterling, though he didn't get much time after he'd left) admittedly at a time where Suarez was the best player in the league. He left in summer 2014 and with that cash they signed Balotelli, Origi, Benteke, Lambert over two summers.

I think the portrayal of him as a joke figure was perhaps a bit too much, and you almost certainly can't pin all transfer dealings on him - but the squad he left at Anfield was arguably worse than the one he walked into and I think that sticks with fans.

As a neutral I never knew how to judge Rodgers at Liverpool, because of Suarez. He was one of the greatest players in the World and carried them really, when you consider he missed the first 5 or 6 games through a band but still ended up with 30+ goals despite not taking penalties. When they lost him Liverpool were back into 6th.

Rodgers never won anything at Liverpool. I don't think he had them anywhere near a final and the record in Europe wasn't good either (didn't they go out of the CL group stages!?).

He lost a couple of semi-finals in his last season. Europe wasn't great (as we've heard this week) but he was one win away from being a true hero in 2014. Still the questions remain about him in big games, I don't think he was a failure but not a massive success either.

But then he'd been in management for three years and got the Liverpool job. Maybe he was too inexperienced? Now he looks settled and comfortable (albeit at a smaller club).

One thing you could say is in 2013 Swansea rodgers won the league cup without him being there. It was very much his squad and influence it was just case of laudrup being in the right place at the right time.

Incorrect. Michu, Flores, Hernandez and Ki were signed after Rodgers left and all were very much first team regulars that season.

Yeah I forget how young he was then. Maybe too inexperienced. Liverpool is a massive job, especially when you've not really had much managerial experience (I know Rodgers had been at a few clubs but nothing the size of Liverpool).

He's still way off another big club job yet I think (I know he got linked with Arsenal before Arteta went).

Christ I sit there watching BT sport to find out about Barnes only for them to not even ask Rodgers about him and miss what seems like an exciting start to the next game. Today is not going well!

To be fair, Rodgers would not have been able to provide any insight about it. It's the kind of injury that needs scans and assessments.

EDIT: apparently he's out for 6 weeks and needs and op...

I know it would have been nothing specific but they'll quite often say what the physios and club doctors were thinking. From what I've read on twitter from an account that specialises in sports injuries they think it's very unlucky to be an ACL from the way the knee bent. They are saying it's way more likely to be something less serious.
