The OH Leuven Thread 2020/21

busy celebrating, I should hope.

Went to bed at 22:30, lockdown life is sad.

Either way, as Bonanza said, first half we were quite okay, could've been ahead if Delcroix hadn't blocked that attempt from De Norre. Second half you could once again see that fatigue is really an issue, the sharpness is really missing now. Luckily we held on until 80 minutes were passed, because that's when Kompany time starts. lol

We really really need a rest though, but there's none to be had. We have one week now to focus on the game against STVV, which will be the start of five games in 13 days. (17/01, 21/01, 24/01, 27/01, 30/01). Ridiculous. Even more so because we've had no winter break and technically no summer break either with the preparation of the promotion final at the end of August.

That chipped pass by Sowah on 35 mins was exquisite and seems to be something he does quite a lot. Not an easy ball to pull off and can often look like a waste of possession as defenders will fancy clearing those if it isn't deadly accurate between the zones and yet Sowah seems to have that awareness. Really progressing well.

He chipped it once more to Maertens for the penalty. Decent stuff. Another famous win for OHL!

Getting King and Benkovic(?) as reinforcements for the busy schedule ahead is great.

If OHL can get 8-10 points from the next five games and survive without injuries, that would be close to optimal.

The king power teams are doing superb. Both teams in the top 4 and looking good.
Our owners are the best in word football, they have made both teams well respected and capable of competing at levels we probably we probably never thought we would.

I am thoroughly enjoying watching Leuven and their rise up the league. Hopefully we both maintain our form and get into champions league.

Average.

Didn't really do anything special, but didn't do anything wrong either.

That's a shame, hoped he'd kick on with you. Still plenty of season yet to go though! But never mind that, congrats on the win against Anderlecht! Lovely ol' result!!

What's the news around players coming in at all? Hopefully King will be a good acquisition and if Benkovic can get (and stay) fit, that should bolster your back line.

And the main man Sweet & Sowah? The highlights looked like he was superb once again. Those little chipped balls in to the mixer were Phil Micklesonesque.

Mixed up those things with really annoying things (like cheap loss of possession), so I'd say average as well. Better than his last few games though.

The chip was lovely and he was also involved in the attack that led to the penalty, but he was also very unlucky in his passing and decision-making. He's still looking for his best form, but he worked really hard yesterday and did those little things that don't show up on the scoreboard.

I think he just needs a goal of a couple of assists to get his confidence back.

No offence , but i think your club may be his peak.

Personally I don't think he's ready for the Belgian 1st division yet. I do believe he could've been a good addition for us if we were still down in the 2nd division. Not as a regular starter, but he would've got a lot more playing time.

A loan spell at a League One team would've been a better option for his development.

OH Leuven has caught a central defender

23-year-old Filip Benkovic completes the season at OHL. The Croatian central defender played at Cardiff City in the first round, but is owned by Leicester City. The Foxes snatched the tall defender from GNK Dinamo Zagreb in 2018.

- OH Leuven can count on the services of central defender Filip Benkovic until the end of the season.
- The Croat, owned by Leicester City, previously played football at GNK Dinamo Zagreb, Celtic Glasgow, Bristol City and Cardiff City.
- Both with Dinamo and Celtic, the right-footed central defender has won a lot of prizes.

There are already a lot of trophies in the trophies of the young Benkovic. He was educated at Dinamo Zagreb and took two national titles and the cup of Croatia with that team. Benkovic played 76 times for Dinamo. In August 2018, the 1m94 big defender signed a five-season contract with the Foxes. There he matured in the U23 and played twice in the cup.

Leicester City loaned its new addition to Celtic Glasgow in the 2018-2019 season. In no time at The Boys he became a mainstay at the heart of the defense. The season ended on a bad note with an ankle injury, but Benkovic put on the green and white jersey more than 30 times. The Croat conquered the Scottish national title with Celtic and won both the cup and the League Cup. In the Europa League, he was between the chalk lines four times the full 90 minutes that season.

A loan to Bristol City FC, an established name in the Championship, followed in January 2020. Benkovic played ten times at The Robins in the English league . In the first round of the current campaign, Leicester loaned the Croat to another club from the Championship: Cardiff City. There Benkovic had it very difficult to fight for the team. A few weeks ago, he played 70 minutes against Wycombe Wanderers.

Benkovic made his debut with the Croatian national team in June 2019. The central defender completed the friendly game against Tunisia.

At OH Leuven, the young Croat is given the opportunity to convert his potential into playing minutes. He must give OHL a quality injection into the defensive compartment.
