The OH Leuven Thread 2020/21

So, what happens if they make Europe? You aren’t allowed two teams owned by the same people in the same European competition.

One team would have to forfeit.

But, for example, didn't both Red Bull-owned clubs RB Leipzig and Salzburg play in this season's Champions League games anyway?

So, if Leuven make Europe, then they could be able to proceed with LCFC being involved too - if they can find a loophole around any rules?

Not the case anymore. Well at least it wasn't with RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg.

OH Leuven has caught a central defender

23-year-old Filip Benkovic completes the season at OHL. The Croatian central defender played at Cardiff City in the first round, but is owned by Leicester City. The Foxes snatched the tall defender from GNK Dinamo Zagreb in 2018.

- OH Leuven can count on the services of central defender Filip Benkovic until the end of the season.
- The Croat, owned by Leicester City, previously played football at GNK Dinamo Zagreb, Celtic Glasgow, Bristol City and Cardiff City.
- Both with Dinamo and Celtic, the right-footed central defender has won a lot of prizes.

There are already a lot of trophies in the trophies of the young Benkovic. He was educated at Dinamo Zagreb and took two national titles and the cup of Croatia with that team. Benkovic played 76 times for Dinamo. In August 2018, the 1m94 big defender signed a five-season contract with the Foxes. There he matured in the U23 and played twice in the cup.

Leicester City loaned its new addition to Celtic Glasgow in the 2018-2019 season. In no time at The Boys he became a mainstay at the heart of the defense. The season ended on a bad note with an ankle injury, but Benkovic put on the green and white jersey more than 30 times. The Croat conquered the Scottish national title with Celtic and won both the cup and the League Cup. In the Europa League, he was between the chalk lines four times the full 90 minutes that season.

A loan to Bristol City FC, an established name in the Championship, followed in January 2020. Benkovic played ten times at The Robins in the English league . In the first round of the current campaign, Leicester loaned the Croat to another club from the Championship: Cardiff City. There Benkovic had it very difficult to fight for the team. A few weeks ago, he played 70 minutes against Wycombe Wanderers.

Benkovic made his debut with the Croatian national team in June 2019. The central defender completed the friendly game against Tunisia.

At OH Leuven, the young Croat is given the opportunity to convert his potential into playing minutes. He must give OHL a quality injection into the defensive compartment.

I Really want Filip to Work out with OHL but more importantly, return to the KP and become/have a successfull playing future with us....

A central Bline with Fofana, Soyu, Benkovic, Evans, around then  will see us having a strong base to compete across all competitions including Europe..

One team would have to forfeit.

The Red Bull teams had to make massive changes within the clubs structure to be able to enter both, such as not having people who could have influence over both clubs

Red Bull also had to scale back their funding to Salzburg, so any financial help we give them would also be reduced

So most likely with Top being Chairman for both clubs, and the involvement of Susan Whelan etc. it is likely they would have to "step down" from one club, and be replaced by someone who has no influence over the other

Could result in possibly Tops brother becoming chairman of Leuven or something like that, no doubt they will have looked into what needs to be done if the situation arises

As long as he plays good news for for all parties.

Question or our OHL friends @Bonanza @KlaaZ @Lizhang, how do fans of other clubs and the Media see OHL having access to LCFC players like Sowah, Benkovic, Eppiah, Iversen etc

It was talked about in a relatively popular tv show yesterday actually, with manager Brys as a guest. He was asked if he was forced to play the loanies etc and he gave the example of Iversen, who just returned back to Leicester because Romo was just doing better. Either way, there's no real negativity regarding this, neither from sups or media.

I'm personally not opposed to it, as long as they bring something extra and have to fight for their spot like everyone else. But three players is, as far as I'm concerned, the limit as the more this happens, the more you get the feeling of 'satellite club'.

Surprised clubs don't see you having a unfair advantage, but then again I suppose they could loan players from other clubs.

I don't see it as that, it more of a symbiotic relationship.

As long as both clubs benefit and its a fair an equal relationship.

Just a quick note, we are not 'your club'. ;)

In fairness from this side of things a lot of the language used and actions may lead folk to think that way.

Things like your kit being sold in the club shop at Leicester, stadiums both named similarly, king power hoardings everywhere, same board and ground staff and then the loans.

I for one am pleased the posters on here from Belgium do still feel things over there are in OHL’s interest and the club is still first and foremost for the supporters in Leuven.

Most important quote of the whole show:

"King Power made it clear they want to compete for the league title in 3 years time"

Teams like Moeskroen (owned by Lille) and Cercle Brugge (owned by Monaco) are sateliite clubs. Their only purpose is to recieve young players on loan from their parent club and at the end of the season that parent club sells those youngsters for profit and dump another load of loanees on Moeskroen and Cercle.

Which reminds me ...

OHL was taken over by the best owners in the Premier League.  Beerschot got the owners from Sheffield United.

SO WHY THE HELL DO BEERSCHOT ALWAYS BEAT OHL?!
