Nicolo Barella Posted 12 October 2020 Posted 12 October 2020 If they park the bus like they did at Liverpool they'll shit on us but if they try to take the game to us like they did in their other games I'll be more confident, especially if Praet and Maddison are fit again. Looking forward to Under shitting on Targett off the bench. Barnes Vardy Perez Praet/Maddison Mendy Tielemans Justin Soyuncu Evans Castagne
adejo92 Posted 12 October 2020 Posted 12 October 2020 Taking in to consideration their result against Liverpool, and ours against Man City - i would take 'form' with a pinch of salt this early in the season. We are more than capable of beating these so long as we turn up with the right attitude. We have shown time after time that when we turn up, we are more than capable of beating any team in the league, it's the inconsistency that seems to be the ugly wart stuck to our club! Anyway...back to the point....yeah we'll win but should man mark Grealish. Take him away and Villa's infrastructure crumbles. 1

The Liverpool game is one I’d imagine you can forget, because it was a real freak incident, of deflects goals and Liverpool just not bothering to turn up. But our defeat to west ham was a worry. Guess it boils down to who turns up on the day. Really can’t call it. I actually think villa turned up and played very well. Take nothing away from them . They have developed from last season and Barkley could have had a hat trick. This will see how we are going Grealish and Barkley looked very good together. Mings is a very good defender. And Ollie up front will be busing . I’m always normally very positive. Still think we can win but far from easy . 1
NaijaFox Posted 12 October 2020 Posted 12 October 2020 We will smash these. They're likely to be just as high as we were before the West Ham game only to come down to earth as we were after the West Ham game.

I know the score line can’t be argued but three of the goals were deflections, and Gomes gave the ball away for another. So Liverpool really gifted half of the goals to them. But credit to Villa like you say their attacking threat was clinical on the day and made Liverpool pay. Im starting to sway more towards defeat in all honesty, there are few teams this season who I think we will really struggle to compete with. Villa’s style of play V Liverpool is one which is normally a nightmare for us, as West Ham showed we’re still very soft and if you are aggressive in the press and get into our faces we crumble. I can see this being a pretty comfortable afternoon for Villa, they are a team capable of playing this way. 1

I can see what you are trying to say and agree to some extent, but Watkins also hit the bar late and they could have just as well have scored another 2 or 3 goals, given the great chances they had/created (including 1 on 1s). 10 goals would not necessarily have flattered Villa on the day, and even without the deflections they could well have still gotten 7 goals against Liverpool. It was just one of those days when about everything they tried worked. 1

Hope they had all the luck against villa and we get a bit .

They made us look poor in the cup and then resorted to their normal approach in the league and we beat them comfortably. They would be stupid not to set up to counter. Timmy showed today he is quality on that LWB position, and we have an issue defending that far post, which Timmy with his height will help to resolve? I mean, Villa have one threat and it’s their left winger. If Brendan switches Tim off Grealish he’d need his head examined.
Mickyblueeyes Posted 12 October 2020 Posted 12 October 2020 I'm worried. They have a good midfield but when fit, ours is better. It be interesting to see how things develop this week with injuries etc. A fully fit Leicester City is better then a fully fit AV. Our next few fixtures are tough.

Sol thewall Bamba Posted 12 October 2020 Posted 12 October 2020 Despite their start to the season you know they'll do a copy and paste of what West Ham did to us. No way they come here and try to play expansively given what we did to Man City and then subsequently what West Ham did to us. If Maddison and Praet aren't fit to start we're in big trouble. 4
Saxondale Posted 12 October 2020 Posted 12 October 2020 I'm a bit worried about this. West Ham proved we are vulnerable. I think Villa have played a blinder signing Barkley - him and Grealish together is a serious proposition. We need Maddison back, for sure. 1
mozartfox Posted 12 October 2020 Posted 12 October 2020 Will VAR be working as by rights Villa should most probably be playing the Championship?
Popular Post Ric Flair Posted 12 October 2020 Popular Post Posted 12 October 2020 Please, please, please don't go 3 at the back vs these. I know they have improved beyond recognition from last season with their signings but we nailed them 8-1 across the two league games playing a mix of 4-4-2 diamond and 4-1-4-1 but decided to play 3 at the back in both semi finals where they coped with us much more easily. 4-1-4-1 with Ünder at RW, Castagne at LB and hopefully either Praet or Maddison are fit to join Tielemans ahead of the sitting Mendy in the dual 8 role. Deal with that Dean. 7 1

By that I mean don't go for the high possession camp around their box type of mentality. We did that against West ham and they punished us. Villa will want to do the same. We need to be a bit more savvy and maybe try and counter them or at least play differently. They know how to beat us? We spanked them twice last season, and their keeper had the game of his life at Villa Park in the cup semi. Add the incredible VAR penalty not given as well. They are decent and have improved, but we've easily got enough about us to put them away 1
KingsX Posted 12 October 2020 Posted 12 October 2020 As always, I looked at our opponents’ pre-match thread. I can save you the time … Not the most humble, or nuanced fans are they? These “killers” are in this division only by the grace of some jokester-god. While it will require our best, they need another spanking. 1

Missing something here... We beat them 4-1 at their place, and 4-0 at ours. The latter game was the last time they played us. Edited 12 October 2020 by turtmcfly 1
