Why does this always have to be one or the other? We win 3 cup games and 5 league games and we have both?

Not as simple as that obviously, but I never understand why it has to be pick one or the other?

We now have a maximum of 12 games left this season, and players returning to fitness, we should be going all out to try and win the FA Cup and finish top 4.

It doesn't have to be, but if someone starts a thread about how they'd like us to finish top 4 and win the FA cup I for one am going to ignore it

For me it depends on the state of the squad during the final run of games in the Prem

If we beat Man Utd, the Semi Finals are played on Saturday 17th April, meaning our game against West Brom will be moved to mid week some time

Should we get to the final, that game is going to be played on 15th May, right in the middle of those 3 games at the end of the season

The Chelsea game will be moved to likely 18th/19th May, meaning we could end up with a final run in of:

11th May - Man Utd away

15th May - FA Cup Final

18th/19th May - Chelsea Away

23rd May - Spurs Away

Could be a brutal 12 days for our main 11 as realistically we wouldn’t rotate in any of those games

Wins against WBA, Palace, Southampton and Newcastle, as well as avoiding defeat against West Ham could mean we are comfortable in our position in the top 4 going in to this game.

Maybe if we were Chelsea or Arsenal in this moment, I'd choose top 4 but for us it has to be the FA cup as we've never won it.

Seeing the city celebrate a trophy win would mean more to me than CL finances and live longer in the memory. To me that is what football is all about.

The stronger we get the better chance of winning it. Getting CL football will go along way to ensuring we stay near the top, potential signings will be of better quality too. Winning the FA Cup wouldn’t do that for us

I hope you’re right, but last time we qualified for the CL Kante left for a team not in the Champions League and our signings were awful. You probably also underestimate what proving that we’re a team that you don’t have to leave to win trophies might do for player retention.

Ultimately the answer is both and at this stage in the season I don’t think that one necessarily needs to distract from the other

Top 4 is definitely more important.  Winning the FA cup and finishing 5th wouldn't help us attract great players or indeed keep those we have.  They all want Champions League.

FA cup for me. Being 58 I grew up with FA cup dreams all my life, and its still a thorn in my side.

Silverware is important.  No one will remember our Top 4 place in a few years time. Nothing will be recorded on our list of honours. and we currently cannot reach the quarter finals of the Europa League yet, let alone the CL.

Of course, if we're talking about club revenue, Top 4 wins hands down. But for the glory, and memories...the FA cup for me please. :fc:

Drop any points and good runs from teams behind us could mean we need to get results from those final 3 games as well though.

Top 4. Ideally 3rd. **** up the Super League plans. FA cup another season.

Is that right? If we were not to finish fourth but third does that put us in some kind of co-efficient playground for super league qualification in accordance to the proposals?

I’ve said it before.... controversial but.. even if we finished 5th and got to the Cup Final, I’d be happy with, because it actually represents progression! Then go one better next season, what ever that represents (for example going deeper into the Europa, or winning the FA cup, or finishing top 4)

We've never won the cup. Four finals and lost them all. Champions League football is really better than lifting a trophy for the first time?

Think it would mean a lot to Rodgers as well. His 1st trophy in the Premier League.

FA Cup without doubt.

I'd hate to become a Spurs where you qualify for Europe but never win anything.

Football is about glory. Not qualifying for the group stages of the Champions League.

A winning FA Cup final we'd all remember for the rest of our lives.

Not controversial though is it. Most of our fans seem to be up for becoming the next Spurs rather than actually winning stuff these days. Weirdos.

Especially seeing as the forum absolutely loves laughing at Spurs at every opportunity.

i'd take fa cup, only if it meant i could go to wembley to see it. if we win it behind closed doors i really don't care.

top 4 priority. if we want to attract players,  they'll only care if we are in the champions league. if we win fa cup but finish 5th no prospective player will care about the fa cup. all about that gazprom

You don't get a trophy for finishing in the top 4. I want trophies being a veteran of two semi-finals (three if you count the '74 replay) and being traumatised as a kid watching the' 69 final on a B&W telly whilst being told by my Dad that we'll win it next year. Still waiting.

Theres no choice to make.

I don’t really see why there has to be a choice?

Surely the point of the thread is to for people to discuss if a choice had to be made which one they would choose? I doubt the OP would prefer only one to both

That said, it should have been a poll...

I would dearly love to see us win the FA Cup, but in reality, set against the CL, it’s meaningless - and that is sad. Yes it would bring closure of domestic titles, but in terms of importance for the club and our trajectory, CL is our number one priority.

All that being said I’d love to see us smash Utd at every opportunity. It’s just, usually, we don’t.

“You won’t remember a top 4 finish” is one argument.

No, but you’ll remember the champions league campaign it brings. That to me is the ultimate goal. I want to witness that again! If it meant giving up on winning the FA cup then so be it. That’s my opinion on it.

Having said that, it’s obviously not one or the other. Good conversation topic though.
