He’s toast in respect of leading the party

imo, the party was never ready to elect someone of his background as a leader anyway. These revelations re his and his families tax affairs means he will never successfully challenge boris.  And boris will demote him at some point over the next six months depending on how toxic the affair becomes …..

boris knows a fair bit about affairs !

Ha - though to be fair this story has ballooned somewhat since I wrote my post above 😂

She's paying up. Damage done already though Mr. Sunak. Having his job and not having whiter than white tax arrangements was always going to end in disaster.

Now the question is, who leaked it all? Boris or Labour. lol

To those on this thread defending Sunak, how do you feel now that this green card leak has been revealed. He’s completely finished imo in terms of PM ambition.

I’m not a big fan of his anyway, it’s a shame that he is now not able to put pressure on Boris but apart from that I don’t we’ve lost anything.

Was always happening at one point or another extremely young for the post, he’s hardly even been in Parliament that long and his entire pick was because the previous chancellor refused to have Boris-aligned advisors. How on Earth someone convinced him he could have Prime Ministerial ambitions I’ll never know, the guy is completely unrelatable, little to no charisma and worst of all comes across as extremely dorkish, in the same way as prime 2015 Ed Miliband. Folk take the piss out of Liz Truss but she’s 100 times an easier sell for leader even if she’s even more incompetent than Sunak.

Not sure what's worse. Whether we thought he might have some integrity about him and be relatively clean, or that he thought he could get away with it...

Seems like more an admin issue than anything else.  Is there any evidence he paid less tax in the uk as a result? If not it’s just noise imo.

Im not particularly keen on the guy, if only because he beat my cousin to become an MP in the first place.  I also tend to agree that he is too rich and privileged to be a good chancellor or pm.  Just no connection with reality.

Jeezus has he broken any laws, isn’t there a double taxation agreement in place in the UK, does Top pay tax into UK coffers on his King Power empire in Thailand?

There must be hundreds if not thousands of businesses & industries doing the same thing, there might even be a few posters in this forum that do they same thing, didn’t / don’t most contractors register a “business“ in the Channel Islands to pay less tax or is it just because he’s a Tory?
I get he’s the chancellor but the only law he’s broken is a moral 1 for his position I guess.

Probably should go in the unpopular opinions thread but man this thread is boring and should be retitled Tory Witch Hunt until Labour gets in then retitled to Labour Witch Hunt

It’s not political for me - just that a ch of ex in today’s environment surely has to be squeaky clean (inc morally) with his financial affairs.

his family are so loaded - having perfectly legal arrangements to save a few million each year on tax is not a good look.  Even being an mp with arrangements like this is questionable. He should never have accepted the role if he wasn’t able to change his own and his families tax arrangements immediately.

as an example, I thought long and hard recently about becoming a JP (they’ve been advertising as numbers are low). I have the time and I think I would be well suited to it. But then I thought about the ‘dodgy’ stuff I’ve done over the years regarding money/taxes - (it’s not heavy stuff and obvs I won’t go into any details).  So I decided that I couldn’t sit there and pass judgments on people who may be put in front of me for doing pretty much the same as I’ve done. It’s called a conscience ….  Those who choose to serve the public at a high level should have one.

Closes gyms, parks and recreational areas, locks everyone down on and off for like 18 months, keeps all the fast food restaurants open, then ‘exclusively’ tells us we’re fatter as a nation.

Cheers Sherlock.

Fully agree St Albans and I really applaud your moral compass to turn something down that I imagine was something that you really wanted to do and probably would have been excellent & fair at.

My issue, and I have said it’s not a good look for his position, my issue is the way the thread turns as these stories that pop up of Tories are heightened to Jimmy Saville levels. Truth is and you say of yourself that not many of us can say we are whiter than white and the British public & journo’s love nothing better than bringing someone at the top down and will go to extraordinary lengths to find a crumb of dirty and whip up a storm something that is barely a breeze.

Partygate another 1, was I pissed off, of course I was but I called them the c word and moved on knowing that I was better than the offenders.
What good has all the expense and energy put into tracking down and fining what will turn out to be mostly staff, ordinary people, done whilst trying to manage an exit out of a pandemic or engage in a humanitarian issue in UKE etc etc

The thread is just losing its way and posters are becoming like Vegans and trying to force something on others with a view of where to put an X in a few years time

The problem is this government are incompetent liars, they’re not conservatives, and they treat the public with contempt. Now I hated austerity as a left leaning person but at least we knew the objectives of Cameron & Osborne and they were competent at it until Cameron messed everything up for himself.

Hardly leads by example either does he haha. Unfortunately like most issues, the solutions offered by the government are superficial plasters. Ultimately people are obese because they don’t have the opportunity/financial means/motivation to exercise and eat a healthy diet, and that stems from political decisions which have been made over the past few decades.
