I just can't get behind that sort of mentality. Actual fans of those clubs are hurting from this just as much as folks outside of the "ESL bubble". Their clubs are the ones being torn from their sphere of influence - ones they've travelled to see home and away for years, generations - and yesterday was the final straw that proved that they are nothing more than an inconvenience to the people that run their club. I know it's hard to have sympathy for them given how much the elitist nature of the sport winds us up, but "proper" fans of these clubs don't deserve to have to make a choice whether or not to keep following their lifeblood. I'd be destroyed if I had to make that choice over Leicester.

Let's not forget that FC United of Manchester was formed 16 years ago because actual fans of Manchester United saw the writing on the wall at the point the Glazers took over. The vast majority of actual "b*g s*x" fans who attend games are on the cusp of having to give up one of the cornerstones of their existence because the corporate greed that helped their success propogate now threatens to destroy the very fabric of their clubs. I fully expect to see fan-formed clubs spring up along similar lines in the locality of the other five clubs involved with this - the real question now is what percentage of their fanbase will stick to principles, and how quickly they can fill those seats with plastic tourists instead.

Trouble at games involving those teams is now inevitable, so it's no coincindence they've chosen to bite while fans are excluded from the grounds. Next season would be very ugly - so they're trying to move swiftly and force it through before the ugly scenes that would 100% happen at games with those sides involved.

It's calculated, it's callous, it's criminal.

there is nothing to compete for if you’re not top 3/4. Can’t get relegated, dont need to attain a certain position to qualify for a competition. Whats the point?

Would not want a invite it will kill the smaller clubs off.i hope no broadcasters would show this super league so it generates no money at all no transfers between this sl and the normal domestic leagues so only transfers between the 12 super league teams  only suspend these 6 clubs in England know  and the other teams who signed up in thee dosmetic leagues as well.lets not get dictated by these so called big 6 in england

Yep.  I think it is possible that lots of games will be between teams that have literally nothing to play for.  It'll be like a dull end of season, for three quarters of the season.

I know but the founding members will be split between the 2 divisions with the rest making up the 10. This way they increase the chances of the most of the founding members finishing in the top places in each division and going on to play in the knockout stages.

The ESL are hoping to tap into a global fan market, but global fans of all these clubs are only fans due to them being somewhat successful.

 

Put Spurs or Arsenal in the ESL and they become Crystal Palace (no offence Palace) languishing, merely existing, near the bottom. You think some bloke from Abu Dhabi is gonna unconditionally love them losing 75% of games.

Following the announcement that 12 clubs were breaking away from European competitions, all hell has broken loose.

 

It didn’t take long for politicians to get involved, with the likes of Boris Johnson explaining he was going to do everything he could to put a stop to this.

Football, like any other passion, is based on the feelings of those who follow it, and on the willingness to pay to attend an event, at the stadium or on TV. Therefore, it’s not certain that the operation will be successful, not even from the point of view that interests them the most. 

“If you decide that Napoli, Atalanta, Sassuolo or Leicester, for example, cannot participate in the event, it means that you have not understood anything about what has been driving a movement for many years.”

He then concludes that he ‘really hopes this story ends up in the cellar’, meaning it gets dismissed, and emphasises that ‘football must go back to being fans and supporters, not presidents of teams on the brink of bankruptcy’.

As he points out, ‘football is above all a sport, not a market’.

For teams like Leicester City, who, thanks to good management and a bit of money, have managed to break into the so-called top six in England, the whole situation is simply a kick in the teeth.

We’ll have to wait and see what comes of this, but with the Foxes now in the FA Cup final, they have far more important things to focus on, and so do their fans.

I think we could do with collectively distancing ourselves from any suggestion that we as a fanbase are in any way bitter about not being included in the Super League. That misses the point that the very concept of the SL completely undermines the domestic football pyramids in England, Italy and Spain. I for one don't want any part of this for our club, not now or ever.

Money has replaced water and food as the most essential element for survival in this world for some. It is just a sad reflection on how deep the grave is humanity is willing to dig. Money means everything to some, and they frankly don’t give a shit how they attain it.

Yeah this is true, I feel pretty happy to have witnessed the rise of Football from the 70s gutter to what it became when we won the thing. We've seen the best of it. From the Chelsea riots to dancing in the rain before the Everton game, every minute of the journey was worth it.

Also, you can't expect someone to plough millions into a club if they don't get the final say how that money's spent.
