The way the situation is looking, it seems to me that we’re waiting for Tarkowski next summer, hence why I keep saying a stop gap would probably be the most ideal move this season.

That either means a loan or a free transfer for a season. Matip & Phillips won’t get ahead of Van Dijk, Konate & Gomez next season. You could go to the Championship for someone like Egan or Adarabioyo, loan option to buy maybe.

Or you try a swap by getting Amartey, Mendy or Choudhury out the door.

I think Matip is expected to stay at Liverpool and he will join the other 3 as their 4 centre backs, Phillips seems to be the one they want to push out the door on a permanent deal, I think Burnley have been heavily linked as they want 2 new centre backs

Wouldn't be surprised if we wait and it ends up being someone we get in on deadline day on loan, hopefully a bit more like the Dragovic loan (although he didn't play much for us I thought he was decent at the time) rather than Bennett!

I imagine any money we makes from sales now is going to be put towards whatever right winger we try to get (unless we go down the road of loan with option/obligation to buy with that and spend a small fee on a 4th choice centre back)

With the Kabak rumours seemingly dead in the water I don't think there are actually any credible links to any players for any position at this point in time, boring! lol

Defender is a necessity if we’re playing 3 at the back. So right mid is no more important really. Teams screwed if one gets injured

....we seem to be obsessed with playing three at the back, I not sure why the insistence on this formation, we will probably play that way for 6 - 10 games next season!!!

In the great scheme of things it really is not worth the amount of time spent discussing it.

We are set up and function better as a Four at the back, with Wingers and pacey forwards, it is in the clubs DNA , we only went for a three because of injuries last season.

What happened to Benkovitch? He was supposed to be great, Rodgers knew him well etc. Could he finally be useful?

Legs made of weetabix - had about 2 and a half years of barely any football, would be quite the comeback

Would think we will try to shift him on

Was just eating my dinner and remember Lingard was a player. He’d be a tasty little addition and could deffo play right-wing.

I’ll go back to my slag Bol now.

Would think this suggests we might not be playing 3 at the back if we aren’t too bothered about another centre back

If we only have one more splash (say 15-20 million plus) signing in us, whether it's a RW or a CB is probably very telling as to what our default formation is going to be next season.

Celtic reach agreement for Kyogo Furuhashi.

This is what Celtic and Rangers can afford to do… buy from obscene markets some of the better players for cheapish fees. Could be a gamble but the Scottish league offers a relatively safe breeding ground for development of talent.

Maybe Jonathan Tah on loan could be an alternative option?

Although you’d think Leverkusen would prefer a permanent deal.

Yep don’t mind the sound of Tah. Tall physical presence at the back to replace Wes and played over 170 times in the Bundesliga, 30 times in Europe and 13 times for Germany so offers a bit more experience as well.

Not necessarily as 4th choice but as 2nd choice rotation for Evans alongside one of Söyüncü or Fofana. Whether he’d be interested/ how much he’d cost is a different question. But could be a decent buy/ loan if the price is right

Funny how we were linked last year and the general consensus on this forum was that he was a useless.

Think cuz he's had a haircut people might think its a different player!

Wouldnt mind us having a look at a couple of disgruntled players in the Chelsea academy. The sales of guehi, tomori and potentially abraham seem to be putting a few of their major talents off signing new deals. Simeu, livramento and bate may be worth looking at with a pathway on loan or into the squad for cup and EL before developing them for the first team.

Possibly could be a scenario where we sell praet and choudhury - rather than replacing like for like we reinvest that cash into RW. KDH and Soumare mean we're well stocked in midfield.

We were short with the squad we had last year, going in with the same numbers would surely potentially see us in the same position?

I think you're right. If we manage to sell Praet, Hamza and Ghezzal, I think we could raise around £30m. There may be one or two others, like Ward or Amartey, as well. There's enough cash to be made from flogging fringe players to buy the RW or CB, and maybe loan the other one.

It's not the same numbers, though. We've added Daka, Soumare, Bertrand, KDH and Sowah to the squad, and only lost Wes (who barely featured, anyway) and Fuchs. It's a bit of a struggle at the moment to cram everyone into the 25-man squad.

looking at things have developed over the past few days, rumours and so called 'news' etc, I think a good scenario would be to take Jonathan Tah on loan with an option to buy for the centre back roll. With regards to the right sided attacking forward, I'd love to take Noni Madueke for circa £20m or less. rather that than spank £40m on Beradi, who might not work out in English football. It is a big risk for the money.

I think it's been said previously but that shortness in numbers was driven by players who didn't contribute much in the second half of the year - fuchs, Morgan and under barely played.
