Just because he’s had a limp season with United doesn’t mean he’s shit. I actually think half the time he played he was one of their better performers. Bit of Brendan magic, and this kid would be unreal. Imagine the pace and him and Barnes on either flank? He has got pace to burn, which would come in handy on the counter attack, but he doesn`t really have a trick, so is not so effective against teams with men behind the ball, and his end product leaves something to be desired too. We could do worse, but i`m not sure he is the technically gifted winger that we could do with, to open up those packed defences that we come up against more these days. 2

Well it’s not even hypothetical, we were linked when he was at Swansea and everyone was on board 1

I want a better winger to come in, but this could still be an OK option
Heymister2015 Posted 15 July 2021 Posted 15 July 2021 Not good enough! We play possession football. So against teams sat deep every game he’d be useless
gurru991 Posted 15 July 2021 Posted 15 July 2021 A very limited player who really only has one asset & that is pace. Handy player to have on the counter but not very useful against a team who sits back. His end product leaves a lot to be desired & I don't see that he would bring much to City. 1

Rodgers is clearly looking to get the players for two different formations to suit different games. not having the players to adapt made us look a little one dimensional at times last season..

Nicolo Barella Posted 16 July 2021 Posted 16 July 2021 Daniel James is right-footed. Any formation we use with him in it will be unbalanced.
Sankey93 Posted 16 July 2021 Posted 16 July 2021 This would not make me happy. He’s just fast and that’s it! Just lock the thread and hope to god we don’t sign him. 1
FrankieADZ Posted 16 July 2021 Posted 16 July 2021 i think this could be a decent one, but i dont really think James would be a starter for us atm, which i think he needs to be

Popular Post Pick Good Name Later Posted 16 July 2021 Popular Post Posted 16 July 2021 Is there another way of looking at this? Rather than taking an individual approach and concentrating on the player himself and then concluding that he's a one trick pony, not good enough, too raw, unbalanced etc etc we look at it from a squad perspective? Does he improve our options on the RW? Does he improve the talent we have at our disposal on the RW? Does he improve our squad as a whole? I'd look forward to listening those who suggest 'no' to any of the above. After all, we have Albrighton/Perez/Pereira(at a push)/Sowah(again at a push) as options. Is he that marquee/worldie/finished article/world at his feet player that can drive forward with pace. That has the ability to beat three men. Deliver with pin point accuracy. Full of tricks. Flair. Can put a shift in and offer the defensive work rate needed. Deliver a contribution of 20+ goals/assists per season that we all want at this club? Probably not. Does that player exist and is within the clubs capabilities to secure? Questionable. This would improve our squad. No doubt. We'd all love to see that marquee signing that pushes us further into the Top 4 equation. However, this is a process. It's not done in a season. We haven't Romans billions, Utd's commercial power, City's oil money, or Liverpool's history, pulling power and again commercial presence. There's a lot of clamour for players that 95% of FT users haven't seen play. But instead are judging on a 4 minute YT video. Each to their own. Yet some are suggesting we're too good for a player that has qualities the squad needs. Experience in the PL. Experience at a top club. Experience on an international stage. He's only 23. Or is the above just too much of a simplistic view to take? 9

AjcW Posted 16 July 2021 Posted 16 July 2021 I know who i'd back to get a tune out of him, and it's not the dopey the Norwegian dwarf.

However there was a period where he was switching the play and looked good with his approach play, it did not last long. When he retires he will write, regarding what was asked of him, "... if only they had......" it will be the title of his book.
foxfanazer Posted 16 July 2021 Posted 16 July 2021 Not a fan of this one at all. Runs with his head down and has no real skill or end product that I've seen 1

This is exactly right, the reason Man U looked ****ing clueless at breaking teams down last year is that most of their front line were suited to playing on the counter attack, fast and direct, but when teams defended deep they were fooked. Only got a bit better after they got Cavani in, there's a reason he became a starter there. We don't need to do down this route, we're already excellent on the counter with Jamie and Harvey.

HeskeyForever Posted 16 July 2021 Posted 16 July 2021 He's got the raw attributes to be an effective winger and he's never had a coach as good as Brendan in his career, so I think if we can get him for roughly £10m then it's a good deal. We desperately lack pace on the right when Perez/Albrighton play there so this will alleviate that somewhat. How many careers have Man United absolutely destroyed over the past few years too - really isn't a good barometer.
