Currently 25 but the over exaggeration of the current temperature on radio phone ins and the presenters running with it is embarrassing.  Ended up turning it off.  People claiming 28 at 845am.  lol

Officially 32c in some places by 11am.

I'd rather believe official meteorological offices or weather stations than someone who's willing to laugh it off...

Maybe we need to develop giant satellites to park in front of the sun to create artificial solar eclipses or find a way to drag the planet into a slightly bigger solar orbit! This is interesting to read, although India's solution is different to both of those sci-fi suggestions.

There are many geoengineering strategies, the most commonly employed are Greenhouse Gas Removal (GGR) or Negative Emissions Technology - for example biochar, aforestation and carbon sequestering. Ocean Fertilisation is another proposal - and one that has some concerns due to possible negative effects. The other main branch which you are referring to is Solar Radiation Management which with the exception of ground based albedo modification and isolated experiments int marine cloud brightening, is entirely hypothetical. In addition to the solar shades that you mention, one branch of this, Stratospheric Aerosol Injection intended to replicate the cooling effect of volcanic aerosols and those heterogeneously produced in the Junge Layer. SAI has yet to graduate beyond mathematical modelling and research proposal. A small scale trail directed by the Keutsch Group/Harvard called SCoPEx, involving a steerable balloon launched 20km into the stratosphere releasing a few litres of water to evaluate perturbation (and subsequently maybe 2 or 3kgs of calcium carbonate to establish reflectivity) has been postponed multiple times due to ethical approval. Even in a last-ditch bid to combat global temperatures, SAI is unlikely ever to be practiced not simply due to the environmental unknowns and logistical implications, but the virtual impossibility of international governance.

Technically, DAC is likely one of the most promising possibilities, but governments are deterred by the cost. But then the most expensive course of action is to do nothing. It's the huge lifestyle changes that are perhaps the hardest to engineer.

We have a cat that pisses everywhere …….

When my drunk mate used to visit our shared house he did pretty much the same. Usually inside wardrobes or the corner of a room, but one night he managed to stick his manhood inside a VHS player and narrowly avoided electrocuting himself. It never worked again - the video player, not his c***.

.... in other words, while Salarian solutions are cool, perhaps other solutions might be more feasible and practical for the time being.

I'm sorry, I was completely absorbed by Dagger's ice lolly thread.

Er...yeah, pretty much I guess.

According to my brother-in-law, who btw knows a thing-or-two about science, the best way thing to do is close all the windows, all the external doors, and all the curtains/blinds before the daybreak. This minimises the amount of heat entering the house during the day. I'd be happy if my central heating could work in reverse when it's very hot - by circulating ice cold water through the radiators!

This is what we do (my husband is a bit of a mad scientist himself). We keep an eye on the outside temperature and compare to the inside temperature. Whenever the outside reaches the equivalent of the inside then we close all windows and doors and draw back curtains. I think the level of effectiveness probably depends on the type of house - our house was built in the early 1900s and we are fortunate that it stays pretty cool.

It is going to happen, as I think I’ve said on here a few times, the best long term is housing in Scandinavia. The middle part of the world will be uninhabitable in not too long. Also a good old war doesn’t help. The last time Ukrainian wheat was blocked the Arab spring occurred, this time the social unrest by 100m starving Africans turning up on our doorsteps could be a bit worse! That will give Sandra a reason to tut!

Long term, there will be a lot of new land.  If the current Ice Age warm period ends in favour of no Ice Age at all, Antarctica will be available, as will all of Siberia and Canada.

Not saying that's an ambition, just that it's there.

I'm sure he's right.  I opened up my friend's house yesterday evening to feed their cat and in the two minutes the back door was open while I checked round the temperature went up 2 degrees inside

A bit like evaporative coolers.

Just stepped outside to eat my lunch and it’s like getting off an air conditioned plane in a hot country. Managed 8 mins in the sun until I felt my blood boiling and back inside the house for me for a few hours.

Thankfully my house is a very old (partly built in 1708) with very thick walls. Also north facing so it’s lovely and cool. Great in summer not so in winter.

edit to add temp in garden is currently showing 34 and 36 on 2 diff thermometers.

Not sure previously permafrosted and now melted tundra would be good land for arable farming or for habitation tbh, for a variety of reasons.

Went again to leave water for the birds. Really hotter than it was yesterday. House has sun at the back during the morning  then south wall afternoon and front late afternoon till sun goes down . Certainly taken the advice to keep windows and curtains closed when on sunnyside.

Ahhh summer insane heat weather.  It will pass and go back to cooler and rainy days.

Thank goodness we have better access to air cons and central air in our homes over this side but definitely worrying to see the extreme heat days become more frequent.

We dont have 37 on the agenda this week over here in the official way but as typical for here we do have 31 feels like 39 tomorrow and wednesday so can feel your sweaty pain.

Stay out of the mid day heat, stay hydrated  and don't be a tosser working out with the same intensity to prove a point. Take it easy!

Yes I’ve also refilled my birdbath since the fat pigeon flapped out all the water taking a shower earlier. Lol

Agreed.... fitted them this weekend in my lounge and kitchen (which are both South Facing)..... the difference is incredible... it's properly cool downstairs now!!

Better than curtains for keeping heat in over winter as well...

Alcohol probably isn't the best thing in this weather!
