IMHO, yes. Far from my first choice but he would be signing to play on the right. Lookman and Barnes will almost never be on the pitch at the same time. 1

Brooks ticks all the boxes as a Rodgers type player. A wide player whose possibly more suited to being an attacking central midfielder but having the freedom to cut in. I'm very surprised we haven't enquired about him this summer after being very keen last year.

Walshy5 Posted 31 August 2021 Posted 31 August 2021 I've been giving this some more thought and if he's as good on the right as he is on the left then I'm all for It as he'd be an upgrade on Perez. Question is, Is he thar good on the right? I don't know.
FoxyLeon Posted 31 August 2021 Posted 31 August 2021 You would've thought Brooks would have been Rodgers sort of player, can play wide right, as a 10 or as an 8 at a push. 1

He broke through at Charlton mainly as a right winger and Everton tried him there a lot before switching him and then ultimately getting rid of him.

I imagine it’s finances, Bournemouth are likely to fetch our pants down with the asking price, whereas Lookman wouldn’t. I think we’ve got two wish lists, a list where we know players asking prices will be high, and then a list where we feel affordable options are available. Thanks to that absolutely bellend who injured fofana, he’s probably ****ed out transfer ambitions up, as there’s no way we would have got Jannik in if we didn’t need too, we probably would have loaned a defender for cover, and then pushed for an attacking player. If anyone wants blaming it’s that dirty little ****er who crocked our Wesley. 7

A number of those challenges, he could have gone down (like Maddison or Grealish?) but he maintained possession and that retained the team's momentum. His close control is good, he has two good feet and rides challenges. He seems to have positive instincts and drives forward, given the chance. I like. (but then of course these highlights vids obviously show... highlights. What they don't say is whether they can do it on a rainy midweek evening in Stoke, or whether they pack a mardy sulk for the other 90% of games) ...the highlight reels are not just one game, so you can discern his demeanour throughout!!! Very much his attitude to stay on his feet was something I noticed and that goes more to attitude than anything else. I said before that he is someone Rodgers will enjoy working with, he appears to be a character that can learn quickly and take things on board. Could Very well be another JJ.

Scotch Posted 31 August 2021 Posted 31 August 2021 I'm happy with this. At the very LEAST, we have a player who can come in for Barnes and offer us similar traits meaning we don't have to change our system. At best, we try him on the right and he offers the same sort of performances he did in the left last year for Fulham. Good signing... Would be a great signing if we also added a more natural Right sided player but we all know that won't happen. This will be the last one in this window.

Popular Post leicesterseddon Posted 31 August 2021 Popular Post Posted 31 August 2021 It’s not an exciting signing but I’ll reserve judgement until I see him. Ultimately we’ve got to look at this in some sort of financial context too. For the last five years we have sold first team players to finance purchases. That hasn’t happened this summer - which is great, but we do have to remember that. Also we’ve just built a £100m training ground and unveiled plans for a pretty wide-ranging stadium expansion. Look at our wages-to-income ratio. We are arguably already pushing the envelope as it is. 16
Fox_in_a_Box Posted 31 August 2021 Posted 31 August 2021 Not the signing we all wanted but better than nothing so I wont moan. If it doesn't work out hes back off to Germany.

Newcastle can only afford loan deals or nominal fees, hence why the Choudhiry deal to them was always going to be up in the air as they can't pay a fee. So if Brooks ends up there I can't see how we couldn't have afforded him, his contract is up in the summer.

Before his injuries I often thought Brooks was the closest thing to Mahrez in terms of style of play and how he glides with the ball, obviously nowhere near his level but as a left footed right winger he suited far us more than Perez, Ghezzal and Under have. 1
FOXSE Posted 31 August 2021 Posted 31 August 2021 Given we haven't sold any key players and who we have already signed this window, we have now got easily the best squad we have ever had. 2
