Haha! I meant an out and out first team RW. I rate Albrighton as well as anybody and RP (if we have a full compliment of wingers) would be better as a full back or wing back.

Apologies, conditioned by previous attempts to have a reasonable discussion about Perez in this forum 🤣

I was also hoping we would go for a RW signing who can fill in on the left if needed tbh, but we have done the opposite (eg a left winger who can play right in a pinch). It’s understandable but a bit disappointing. Clearly a lot of people wanted a first team quality RW who would improve our best XI. Nothing against Lookman though, he was a rare bright spark in a poor Fulham side. He’s a good addition.

Probably 2 up front like the second half of last season.

Pretty sure the idea to get another winger in is so that we don’t have to completely change formation in the event of one player being injured.

For what it’s worth, I would like to see Lookman given a go on the right as a decent winger should be able to play off either flank, but I believe he has predominantly been brought in to offer competition (much needed) for Barnes, and Albrighton/Perez will be the options for the right, continuing the lopsided 4-2-3-1

1 year loan with an Option to buy according to skysports news

I like the sound of this, yes he's probably not our 1st choice but he's young and has potential, just the sort of player Rodgers likes and if it goes south, we haven't paid a fortune

I would be 100% behind this if he was a genuine right winger or we were in desperate need of of a left winger in the starting XI. He is the exact sort of the player we would go for and realistically best we can hope for and I think he is actually quite good.  The stats and everything for me are redundant at this stage though as they are from left wing. In terms of age, price, ability I’m completely behind this. It just the players position that’s frustrating.

but we will see. I won’t write him off.

Just popped up on the Sky Sports Transfer news ticker:

"LOOKMAN HEADING FOR LEICESTER

FlightRadar24.com fans will be pleased to know Ademola Lookman is on his way to Leicester from RB Leipzig to finalise his one-year loan move, with an option to buy.

Any odd-looking planes heading from Germany to the East Midlands?"

It just seems very odd to get a player that's played 3x as much on the left to play on the right.

The club have known we needed a better right winger for years, yet here we are again scrambling for left overs on deadline day.

given the timing of this today, i just feel they may be trying to get someone in as well. Loan with option probably wont have cost that much.

So basically this will be it until tomorrow lunch time when they finally announce it.

These loan to buys are odd ones. I think for them to be a success the player has to be absolutely motivated to prove their worth, otherwise they can do what Under did and waste an opportunity to seal the move.

I just hope he comes here with the right mindset, and a good mentality about him to crack on and sell himself to the fans and the club. Great opportunity for the kid here, now it’s down to him to go and take it.

We have a manager who probably thinks he could turn a GK into a 30 a season striker.... it's really not that surprising, he backs himself to 'change players fortunes'.... he'll get one right eventually.

Despite our obvious gap at RW, its often been said on here that the reason we failed to make it over the line for CL qualification was because Barnes got injured and we had to change formation because of a lack of cover.

Lookman may work out at RW, but even if he's 'just' cover on each side that would still be a big upgrade over where we found ourselves at the tail end of last season.

Not the flashy marquee signing that a lot of us wanted like Madueke, Berardi etc., but a reasonable strengthening of the squad in areas - plural - that we lacked. For a modest fee there's not much to complain about, imo.

Or you could think if Barnes didn’t get injured we wouldn’t have won the fa cup as ihannacho stepped up and did brilliantly. And we had to change to a 2 up top. 🤷🏽

Looks like this is definitely happening. I have an inkling we will play him on the right, with the hope he can be a backup to Harvey as well. A little underwhelming but at least he knows the league and has bags of potential. Let's cheer the lad on, welcome to Leicester, Ademola!

We don't have space in the squad so I wouldn't get too excited

So having ploughed through war and peace over the last few pages I am both mortified and mystified by the number of people slating both our recruitment and BR so heavily 🤷‍♂️.

Do people,, in all honesty, think recruitment is simple and seamless as opposed to sometimes things just don't work out?

If we let Praet, Choudhury and Benkovic go, could we then get Lookman and someone else in?

Also on the flip side means we have no need to play them either. I’d prefer to sign players rather than a loan with an option, just so they have to be integrated with the squad and they actually get a chance to play. More pressure to actually play them with a signing rather than a loan.

Totally agree 👍 and no worries. If it's a case that BR thinks Lookman and Barnes can rotate LW & RW then great and Albrighton makes a fantastic backup if not a starter on occasion too. Perez works better for me when he's got a good full back behind him and those injuries last year with RP and Castagne did him no favours because he can't do what he does best which is link up play. That said, Perez is poor at tracking back.

Here's to hoping that Rudders is looking at 4 x ace cards on his desk and grinning to himself.

We can debate for ages whether Under was good enough for our team, but you can hardly blame him for coming here in a mindset to "waste an opportunity to seal the move". For whatever reason Brendan (and we've seen this with other players) did not want to give Under game time. It may well be the case that Brendan thought Under wasn't good enough, but there's not much the player can do in those circumstances.

He could go all out and put 2 GK's on the bench for a PL match... now there's a crazy idea!
