Soumare had a shocker when he came on but hey ho, it was must win, and we won ugly.

Four wins on the bounce!

Happy days!

He’s inconsistent Soumare. Some of his performances here have been great but others really poor

Well that was hard work. Played well for opening ten, then looked pretty disjointed for overwhelming majority of the game. VDC just needs to be allowed to slip away. Thomas looked like he’d never played with these guys before. It really is hard to find individuals who could be proud of their levels. Daka ran well. Coolest peno. Bertrand was better at left CB than left WB. It was a hard watch, but who cares. Another QF.
was it my dodgy eyesight, or were Brighton huge? Swear two of their players were in excess of 8 foot. 🤔

How do you make that out. He went to his right for every kick. Our kickers all kicked to his left.

He gambled that one of our lads would go to his right which they didn't.

Had he stood still in the goal he would have had a better chance.

This is a terrible hill to die on. I’m sure our team would have scouted which way Steele tends to go.

Had he stood still, I’d guarantee most of our shooters would have taken a different approach.

Gawd how we did not put up 5+ on these lads I will never know. They were a circus, could not keep possession to save their lives. Daka and Lookman need to be more decisive and get the ball forward, Barnes repeatedly had miles of space but they dallied on the ball too much. We have to attack, and we need to do it more quickly. This habit of playing down to our competition needs to stop.

.....although a makeshift team, our usual eleven has the same problem, delayed passes, inaccuracies an inability to be ruthless!!!

We had the breaks but messed up with the final balls, same thing happened at Brentford. I think we are not going to develop that ability to be ruthless against teams, and we will have to buy in the players with the ability, who think and play that way. It all comes back to Rodgers bottle kicking, he realised even after all the coaching we do not have the discipline to carve teams open as a matter of course.

We were great but we didn’t really have the players to play the system we set up with. The wingback we had tonight were no comparison to what we’re used to; Thomas is a good left back yes, but no so sure he’s progressive enough to be at wingback just yet. No doubt Ward is a good goalkeeper but his distribution is appalling; he doesn’t even have the confidence to try things. People slag Schmeichel off for kicking the ball out of play but Kasper’s urgency gives sets the tone; just look at the second goal on Sunday. We’re through anyway so that’s all that matters.

Didn’t think KDH or Choudhury were bad. Mendy and Soumare were though.

We made too many subs in key areas, I think keeling Choudhury on would have made more sense.

Glad Lookman and Barnes both bagged, we’ll need to play 4231 properly at some point.

Let's not make out that Kasper' distribution is good (not your words to be fair). It might sometimes be urgent as you say but it is not that good. Saturday was an exception with the goal to what we've seen this or last season. I can't comment on Ward this evening as I didn't see most of the game. But to judge a guy on one game is a bit hard. Then again it is FT.

I feel like he’s the type of player that is better from the start. He is someone who grows with the game, likes to control the tempo and visually struggles when he’s thrown in.

He’s not really a high energy player, more a core power and strength sort and I think that means he doesn’t give you that added energy straight off the bench.

When it goes wrong you look like an idiot. But I can tell you now the last kicker would have been really torn. Because if the keepers been playing the long game to switch on the last kick it would genuinely put a lot of doubt in your mind. It’s hard to just focus on what you’re going to do if you have a keeper doing something like this

Some stats just from the 1st half ,

choudhury only pasted the ball forward 3 times , and even when he received it with no one near him he still went backwards.
thomas was not much better he went backwards also every time , how the hell can u get on the front foot when u have players who want to go backwards every f***** time .

Let’s worry about when our players miss penalties when they actually miss.

How did the singing section sound?

UFS were great getting behind the team and individual players & the Family Stand responded well.

Kept a very dull game interesting.

Definitely a positive move for The Kop and Family Stand being moved. :)

Think he brought him on to try and combat Bissouma.

Found it interesting that Rodgers waited for Potter to make his moves last night then started to match him up.

Yeah, I quite liked what he has done at Brentford but detest the way he chews gum. Looks like a dockside hooker (I imagine)

Agreed.  I always felt the same about Ferguson.

We started off really getting in Brighton's faces.  Pressing and chasing. Forcing errors.

I liked that. Reminiscent of how we started v Manchester United.

More of that, please.

Our record in shoot outs is extremely good, won 4 of our last 5 before tonight. Now won 5 of our last 6.

It was more the shoot out pre season, probably one of the worst I've ever seen, that worried me.

Me too. I have often been sat up late at night worrying about that penalty shoot out at Burton Albion in a friendly during pre season.

That 2nd half performance was horrible, Vestergaard has somehow taken my disgust to a whole new level yet again. I don't think there's a rock bottom with him, he reminds me of my tragic days as a  compulsive gambler.

That makes so much more sense now I’ve read it through a second time and noted that you didn’t used to be a compulsive gardener.

That's the point the Keeper should wait for the Kicker to decide where it's going. You're talking about small margins, for instance if the kicker opens up his body or instep it's usually going to the keepers left.

The first requirement is to hit the Target, Then it's down to the Keeper.

Keepers are generally so big now that if they just stand and face the Ball they'll save quite a few.

By going early they give the advantage to the Kicker making his job easier.

I take it that you’ve never played in goal and faced pens then …….

I'm not sure that he's had a good game against Premier League opponents yet. Did OK against Man Utd (not surprisingly given the state of their midfield) and was very good against Spartak Moscow. Other than that....

Do we think rodgers or potter is happier ?  Didn’t look like either side wanted to win that and add a game in dec and then possibly two more in jan!

Yeah, Rodgers would hate to be in a semi-final in January! C'mon, Rodgers obviously wanted to win, and it is a good opportunity to give a large squad game time.
