Good play so far, pleased with that. Barnes, Maddison and Daka playing well. Ndidi very unlucky. Our defence appears to have decided to make it as hard as possible for themselves though! Bit concerned with Castagne getting beaten again and again into our box down our right - he needs Soumaré to drop in and help him out.

On that note, I've liked the look of Soumaré in his early games, but I'm not sure what his role is here? He's not box-to-box, he's not tracking back enough to be a defensive midfielder, and he's not creating anything with those raking passes he showed previously. I envisaged him becoming a powerful, Yaya Toure-esque player...but what is he right now?

Not criticism, I'm just not sure what he's expected to do at the moment.

He's 22 and very inexperienced at Prem level. He just needs to keep playing and developing his skill lever. Needs to toughen up a little also.

Enjoyed our forward play and especially Madders.

But our defence. Holy moly. They are so basic and they cut right through. So so fragile.

It's not the defence per se. It's the set up. Honking, as young people might say

I'm off to the bathroom every time they get a corner!..

Our defending is fvcking suicidal!!!

How we've gone from unbelievably solid at the back to the definition of vulnerability is beyond me. Yes there's Fofana and Justin's injury but Soyuncu, Thomas and Castange can be great defenders. All three of them helped us win the FA cup.

Not a hugely strong performance yet but Barnes, Maddison, Thomas and on occasions Lookman and Daka have looked very direct and determined.

Defensively we look quite vulnerable though, which is no real surprise is it but even against absolute dog shit like this we are well capable of conceding goals and its a problem that just won't go away. Is it the midfield and attack not working in conjunction with the defence or are we just poor positionally on the counter at the back? As I've said before, Soumare so far has made very little individual difference to protecting this team, even though he does show flashes of real aggression and physicality to win the ball and play.

Need a few more goals please, it would be nice to go a game without Daka having an air shot as well when he plays, it's the one flaw for him currently thst he's so eager to just blister anything 😂

Comfortable enough, nice to see some attacking play!

No notes. Can see if banging in another 3 or 4 if we want to. All depends on Legias attitude on the 2nd half.

Harvey's bagging 2nd half

Without Evans next to him Cags is a nervous wreck!

I don't think our defensive woes are going to be sorted out in a few days, especially not on losing Evans. I think we need to stick to the formation we have and hope Rodgers is drilling them in training on how to react in various situations

We need tactically disciplined players who know the triggers for the press, which spaces to mark, set traps and willingness to track runners. Lookman, Barnes (we've always known this with him and accommodated) and Soumare are all a fcking  nightmare at those necessities

Albrighton, mendy, choudhury aren't

He's been dreadful. Poor lad out of his depth. We gotta give KDH a go

I think that's harsh, I just don't think he's sure what to do much of the time. Although I would like to see KDH get more game time.

Oh I agree and I understand that. I mean what is his role? What are we expecting him to do? He's good at holding the ball up, but other than that I don't really know what to judge his performance on.

Glad we've got a new forum scapegoat in Soumare, takes some pressure off the other scapegoats.

There's always a good possibility a scapegoat will get injured. Rotation is an important part of football.

We are getting a fairly strong squad re scapegoats. Vester was an inspired signing in that regard.
