Like most people I wake up each morning in a reasonable mood and then remember this assault is going on and immediately go into depressed mode.

It is incredibly difficult to consider the best actions to take. Russia is the current aggressor but a 'broken' Russia is not good for the future of our world.

It would be interesting to know how much just in resources (fuel/munitions etc) this has cost the Russian taxpayer so far. Not even taking into account the severe damage to the value of the rouble, seized assets and ceased trading

I pay a lot of tax in Russia and it makes me feel sick that the money is assisting this. 😥

Please be aware that misinformation is likely to come from BOTH sides.

It’s not … though. They hit it.

Let's not start pretending we know what it's like on the ground and that they should have the means to launch an attack against that convoy.

The Ukrainian forces are mostly in fixed defensive positions and they are in the most critical areas.

I highly doubt that they have the people, equipment, or the luxury of risking mobile attacks in forward positions.

It's very much defensive tactics for them

Probably so, but they've got a sizeable amount of equipment according to this. Surely, it's a bit of an oppotuneaty to attack what sounds like a stranded convoy that's heading to your capital.

Ukraine's main TV tower has been hit. Looks like Mad Vlad wants to kill their TV reception as well as lots of civilians.

Apparently they missed the TV tower and instead hit a Jewish memorial statue.

That has surprised me. Can it be assumed they don’t have the munitions or aircraft to inflict any meaningful damage?!

They want them in close. Seems they are prepared to withstand the siege and wait the ruskies infantry assault.

Ironic considering they reckon they're there to capture Nazis

Me too. First ISIS, then Covid, now this. Tonight's match against Burnley feels remarkably unimportant by comparison.

From the bbc

Some clarity on that massive Russian armoured column heading south towards Kyiv.

Close analysis of the latest satellite images by McKenzie Intelligence Services reveals the following:

  • The convoy is not 40 miles long, it’s a series of logistical ‘packets’ strung out along a major highway from the Belarus border, aiming to link up with Russian units on the northern outskirts of Kyiv.
  • The convoy appears to be hampered in several places by broken down vehicles.
  • The column consists of some armour (tanks) and infantry fighting vehicles but mainly logistical vehicles, implying plans for more than just a brief battle.

The fact that such a slow moving vulnerable target hasn't yet come under assault from the air is puzzling.

The final point is very indicative of the siege to come.

I’d rather see a siege than an all out assault …….

Ukraine aircraft would be picked off by Russian jets pretty quickly …… I would think of ukraine thought it worth attacking the convoy and risking their remaining jets then they would …. Of course for all we know they may have attacked it

Mad Vlad, as the name suggests, is a madman … a deranged despot ..  a real life Bond villain ..  so the size of his brain doesn’t matter a jot.  The similarities between him and Hitler are now quite noticeable  ..  both fixated on pushing the boundaries of their beloved mother/father lands ..  at whatever cost.  Unfortunately both became leaders of large powerful nations. It’s taken about a hundred years for history to repeat itself so let’s hope that before this happens again we’ve worked out a way to stop it.

They may have done, or they are yet do so. Such an assault would inflict more damage to Russia's invasion force, further slow progress and would result in a huge boost to morale on the ground.

I’ve come to the conclusion that the Russian people have basically lived under an authoritarian regime in one form or another since 1917. They give this impression of being hard men but really that’s only when they’ve got an iron bar or a gun in their hand.

The fear factor has been passed from generation to generation to just accept the party line. They live on their knees and see no reason to try and stand.

If they could do that and it was better than letting them get closer then don’t you think they would have  ..  or at least mined the road ??  They must be very low on resources or have a plan.

? Yes I agree. That was precisely the point of my post - hence the word "puzzling". The second point is exactly what I was inferring.
