Kasper is a great keeper, this problem with him not coming for crosses has only arisen since Rodgers has been here and we can't defend corners as a unit. It wasn't a problem when we were winning the league and shouldn't be a problem now. It would ease the pressure on the defence from set pieces if he came for more crosses, of course, but he's not the issue, nor is the defence imo it's the management. He still, over all, is as good if not better than any keeper we'd be able to attract. As for Iversen, I do like Danny ward more than most on here but would be absolutely fine with Iversen being our number 2 next season.

I just want to make sure I understand your point. You actually believe that the management and coaching of the team have actively told a keeper to not come for crosses on corners and stay on his line? That is unbelievable.

Will you just say anything to have a dig at Rodgers?

Same difference if the corner is dealt with it's dealt with. He's never had a great command from set pieces but it's not been a glaring issue for 10 years but since Rodgers has been here it has. So what's causing the issue? It'd be great to have a keeper come for more corners but if he can't pull out wonder saves to keep us in games like Kasper has done consistently his entire career then we're screwed.

I think your question was answered - the CBs in front of Kasper are different now.

I think it’s what Brendan says it is

aggressive attitude to get to the ball first and out battle the man you’re marking

plus having the physical ability to compete

Fuchs was good in the air and chilly wasn’t bad given he is slight build. Thomas and Justin simply aren’t on their level in this regard. Ricky is no danny Simpson in the air. Castagne is ok but still lacks an aggressive streak to get to the ball - perhaps there is a hangover from his head injury at the euros in this respect.  The CB’s we have should be good enough to hold their own and yet amartey often misses that initial movement and run and is playing catch up which isn’t possible if the delivery is good.  Wilf is so important in defending set pieces and vardy on the front post likewise.

this season we’ve been exposed moreso than last with injuries etc meaning we are out physiqued at set plays. add to that our lack of aggressiveness to try and even that out and you get what we’ve got.

kapser has never been a keeper that came for crosses - ever.  what’s in front of him now has highlighted that. I don’t see any great changes in our defensive set up - a different CB won’t solve this.  Perhaps if kasper does leave and we get a keeper in who is very pro active about getting out to punch the ball, then we may be able to move on from our current malaise. A keeper who attacks the cross may encourage defenders to do similar and take care of their mark - the passive nature of kasper at corners and free kicks can’t play well with those in front of him.

I think it's Rodgers fault we concede so much from corners, yes. If you go through my post history I'm far from a Rodgers basher I say it how I see it. Obviously Kasper coming for more crosses would be a huge help and that's his issue but my point is it wasn't an issue for years but it is now. Is it Kaspers fault we put full backs on centre forwards? Zonal mark nothing letting players get a run on us, and just can't attack a ball from a set piece? Stand by my point the over riding issue with set pieces isn't Kasper, if it was we'd have been having major issues since Kasper ha seen here but we haven't.

I want Luton to get promoted, if we are planning on loaning Iversen out next season to them in the prem would be perfect

No disrespect to Ward but I'd much rather Iversen is the direct competition to Kasper than him.

Interesting. I wondered when Danny played his first PL game the other day whether it was Brendan giving him an opportunity before he moved on elsewhere. I can imagine Kasper relishing the opportunity to mentor him, considering the national connection.

I would imagine that with Wales qualifying for the WC, Ward will want regular first team football, to get in ahead of Henessey. Can see him going to Forest as a cheaper option to Pope

I like Ward but it's time for him to go along with Jakupovic. Reduce the wage bill and get two players out of the squad.

Iversen has earned his chance with his performances for Preston.

Alternatively sell Kasper for better money and keep Ward and Iversen. Giving Iversen his big chance. It might work out better.

It’s very likely all 3 first team keepers will leave over the next 2 seasons. Ward/Jakupovic this summer and Schmeichel when his contract ends.

We could replace two of them in house with Iversen & Stolarczyk (both highly rated) and pick up an experienced 3rd choice keeper on a free.

Jakupovic won't be on much he's there to be an experienced emergency keeper and mentor younger players

...Kasper when he first came to us, came out and punched the ball when crosses came in!!!

The change in our previous stalwarts in the backline has affected our ability to defend crosses successfully, going "Zonal" could have engendered a decision to stay on his line, in order to not over-complicate the defensive plan.

It is a feature that I have noticed, is that he tends to come for crosses in the box, when we go a goal up, otherwise he does tend to stay on his line.

You're right, The difference is we pushed out of the box and moved upfield in 15/16. Now Brendan wants us to defend on or in the box believing by out numbering the opposition we will win out.  Personally I think this is a flawed approach especially when we don't have the forward players who can defend like other teams do when helping out the defence.

In the old system Kasper could call for the Ball and claim it. Now there's rarely time as the forwards are in on Goal. I think he's happier with the old system.
