Given the crucial win-or-go-home second-leg away tie in the Europa Conference League QF coming up next week Thursday, some may be tempted to "fart away" this game against Palace (who handily beat Arsenal 3-0 this past Monday), and of course we have to be careful with players just returning from a long spell out with injury. Nonetheless, I think that we should try to maintain our recent relative 'resurgence' in form and try not to go to Eindhoven on the back of a poor result and/or performance.

Accordingly, I would suggest something like the following lineup:

Kasper

Justin

Amartey (Fofana)

Soyuncu (Evans)

Thomas

Mendy

Dewsbury-Hall

Tielemans (Maddison)

Albrighton

Daka (Nacho)

Lookman (Barnes)

Given Brendan, the lineup will likely bear little semblance to this.  lol

I agree with that, but Dewsbury-Hall needs a rest :(

I'd agree but we haven't got anyone remotely similar or good enough to replace him. Going for say Hamza or Soumare with Mendy at home will be too defensive.

Palace are one of those teams that I always think of as a bogey side, which is kinda ridiculous I know. Sure, they've tonked us on a couple of recent-ish occasions but that was just a phase, no?

Palace a vastly improved side. 4/5 changes for us with all attention on Thursday. Away win.

That's exactly what they are these days, especially when we play them at home.

I think we have that perspective bevayse they have won well here are a couple of times.

Rodgers has never lost to them as a City manager.

Strategically, this is actually a very important game, for quite a few reasons.

The aim of finishing best of the rest (8th) and winning the ECL must be our most realistic goal, and a route into Europe.

To achieve this, we need to beat Palace at Home, to start to build that security.

Villa, Brighton Southampton all have games against 'top 6' teams this weekend, and are losable. If we win and they lose, it puts us in a good position.

We shouldn't play the ressies. Also, not that many games this season left, so we should go full strength in everyone of them imo. If injuries happen, then that's the time to swap them out. We have a bit more depth at the right time, to do so.

Also, football is about momentum. Biggest lesson I've learnt in my 40 odd years. Getting results is a habit.

Schmeichel

Ricardo Fofana Evans Castagne

Tielemans Mendy KDH

Maddison Iheanacho Barnes

No reason we can’t beat these even with a few changes maybe rest evans and Barnes give lookman a run out and maybe daka for nacho try get his confidence up a bit

I honestly don't really care too much about this one, obviously want to win but would take a loss if you could guarantee me a win over PSV.

                  Kasper

Justin Amartey Soyuncu Thomas

                 Mendy

    Choudhury   Soumare

Perez                            Lookman

                 Daka

Vestergaard, Maddison & Albrighton in if Soyuncu/Soumare/Perez aren't available.

A bit of rotation here, mainly players who've just returned from Injury ie Evans, Ricardo & Castagne. Give KDH & Barnes, Fofana a rest for the last 20-30 mins.

                 Schmeichel

    Justin Amartey Fofana  Thomas

                Mendy     KDH

Pre-match Press Conference vs Crystal Palace

Vardy?

“Jamie won’t be back. He’s got a final injection on Tuesday and we’ll see what the reaction is to that. We're hoping we get positive news on that. Soyuncu will come back into the squad, apart from that it’s the same squad.”

Two historical Champions League places?

“I think that’s a story that has been regurgitated, and the answers are the same. You should arrive in there on merit. That’s what the game is about, not what you’ve done in the past.”

Liverpool v Man City?

“We'll be playing on Sunday so I might not get to see it, but I'll watch it later on, it’s great to see that quality. There are so many things that can happen. Man City we were talking about them winning the league, but no coach or manager thinks that until it’s mathematic."

Rotation?

“It’s the accumulation of games. We’ve got eight games to fit in this month. The same team won't play every single game, you can’t get the same intensity if you do. The game is about energy so naturally we have to make changes. We’ll make some changes, and it will be the same for the Thursday game.”

Palace?

“We saw earlier in the season the changes Patrick has made, I've enjoyed watching them. They play with a calmness, the two centre-halves are comfortable on the ball, Nathaniel I know, the young left-back has progressed, Conor Gallagher has been a revelation for them, he's a top young player. Jeffrey has been fantastic, a former player, he’s playing with composure. Zaha has great quality, he’s now getting the ball higher up the pitch. Across the team they have done very well. They play with a good spirit.”

Fofana importance?

“He's a very important player for us, but you align that with Jonny Evans, one with experience at the highest level and one of the top young players. With Timothy, JJ and Ricardo, we have balance in that backline. Other guys have done great, but these guys have given consistent performances for me.”

Palace in good mood?

“Good result against Arsenal or not, this was always going to be a tough game. We’re enjoying playing at home again and hopefully we can continue with this level of performance.”

Perez?

“We’ll see. He’s just out this afternoon. He’s felt rough for a few days.”

Soumare?

“He trained today. He had a soreness in his abductor. He’s back in training today.”

Rotation?

“Wesley, Jonny, JJ, Ricardo, Timothy, it’s a case of managing their game-time and looking at their recovery periods. That is part of our plan.”

Last game v Palace?

“We were 2-0 up but didn’t deserve to be. That was a defining moment for us. You saw that day what they were trying to do. I don’t think their game model will be much different.”

Rotating the back four seems like a no brainier. It’s mainly what we’ve been forced to play anyway through most of the season:

Justin, Amartey, Soyuncu, Thomas

The daft decision to omit Mendy from the ECL squad at least means we can play him without too much worry.

Up front Barnes looks like he needs a rest and Perez could be fit:

Perez, Daka, Lookman

So that means we just have to find two midfielders from somewhere. Hamza AND Mendy doesn’t seem a great combination so we may be forced into playing two of Maddison, Tielemans and KDH. Unless Soumare is fit.

             Schmeichel

Justin, Amartey, Soyuncu, Thomas

       Mendy, Soumare

Perez, Maddison (?), Lookman

               Daka

Although, I expect BR to start with Tielemans and KDH if he can …. and I can’t see Perez getting a game.

...back four makes sense...!!!

Mendy coming back in is a no brainer, Lookman definitely coming in for Barnes but we do need to be looking at the right side as a big problem. Not sure who we can bring in to cover as Perez is not going to be getting any time on the pitch.

Gallagher is going to be a problem with Olise and Zaha supplying from out wide we are going to have our hands full.

We can not go with a diamond to get two upfront as we lose the width and gives carte blanche to their wide attackers. We will have to go 4-4-2 to make this work so it will have to be Maddison and Mendy in the middle.

Another way would be to have Daka upfront on his own and draft Soumare in to bolster up the midfield. We do need to see him in action and getting game time is the only way we can see pointers to him coming to terms with this league.

yeah interested to see the 11 for this, I believe Olise is out injured though which is good for us but not 100% sure

My guess.

                     Schmeichel

Ricardo - Amartey - Söyüncü - Justin

         Tielemans - Mendy - KDH

      Maddison  -  Daka  -  Lookman
