We’ve spent 4 years developing him and it was only last year when it finally paid off in big way. If we do sell him it signals we’re just not very serious. Fofana, Barnes and KDH wouldn’t be encouraged by it. if players aren’t signing contracts we need to start selling and maximising value like we used to. We can’t afford to make a habit of the Tielemans & Soyuncu situation. £80m then we sell, we’d probably sell for £65m if he’s no intentions of signing. 3
TMELcfc Posted 30 July 2022 Posted 30 July 2022 Maddison thought to be keen on the move according to northern Journo’s. 1

He's on a par, if not better than peak Grealish was in 2020/21, so the fee should be obscene and like Grealish, he's his clubs best player and unthinkable to lose him without a fight. Are we reliably informed? I’m still not sure, they based it on the wording of the announcement on the website, but it said the same for Mendy.
Ginger_Filbert Posted 30 July 2022 Posted 30 July 2022 SSN just said Leicester want closer to £60m. I really hope that’s a guess.

Bert Posted 30 July 2022 Posted 30 July 2022 We are also too close to the season starting to lose a specialist player like him. We’d have our pants pulled down for a replacement too. 1

I agree but selling to Newcastle is different to the big 6. I don’t think he’d want to leave for them anyway.

I think Maddison would want to go to Spurs ( Champions League Football, definitely more attractive to Southgate and the England set up)

I think some City fans have a very inflated view of the club and its size and appeal. We won the league in 2016 yes, but that was a miracle, the work of God, a phenomenon. Only the season before we’d fought off relegation for 3/4’s of it. Newcastle is a big City. The ground holds what? 60k? Their supporters are fanatical. AND they have money and are expectant. It’s the start of the journey for them. They have that preseason buzz that Leicester don’t have. Similar with Tottenham. Brand new ground, new manager, spending money, live in London etc. I’d suggest the only things keeping Maddison here are his amazing home, which he clearly loves, and his mates. Clearly he gets on amazingly well with Vardy. Stuff like this matters at the end of the day. Loyalty if it still exists, often gets targeted not at an employer, but towards your peers and colleagues. If big bids do come in for Madders, he’ll have to decide whether he sticks it out with mates, or he starts afresh. Sod the training ground argument btw. I’m not having that top level footballers are coming to Leicester because we have a great training ground. We do, and it’s state of the art. But do you honestly think Newcastle don’t, Tottenham don’t? Players join clubs for two main reasons. 1. Money 2. Chances of playing success. Edited 30 July 2022 by Col city fan

Like when we were signing Fofana and there was that faux West Ham interest and they were using a story where Fofana name dropped us but only reported the part where he mentioned the Premier League to try and make the West ham interest seem legit. It's usually those two jokers they wheel out who have no idea what's going on and make out they're getting texts from agents when all they're actually doing on their phones is scrolling down Twitter. Not top drawer yet in the bigger picture but will develop that way and will bring the swagger & charisma to the club that Geordies love. They are building well and have as much money as they need to make Maddison their English statement signing. He knows himself that an England call up will be more likely with the publicity around such a move. I don’t want him to leave but I reckon he could well go and I think around £65 mill would be good business for everyone sadly. Nah, Maddison needs to be playing for a club already up there. Newcastle are miles away and as @Babylon said they’re a decade or so away from breaching the top four. To displace Southgate’s darlings he has to be playing for any one of Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, United, Man City or Liverpool. Or stay with us… moving to Newcastle won’t help him do that… I could see us letting him go, however it would be to one of those above mentioned clubs. However, selling Maddison would be a monumental error. It would take away a huge chunk of our attacking threat, and we have zero time to replace him. I’m happy to say there’s 0% chance he joins Newcastle. Spurs possibly but Newcastle not a chance.

Grebfromgrebland Posted 30 July 2022 Posted 30 July 2022 Look at the bright side at least its another name on the transfer section.
Dusty Posted 30 July 2022 Posted 30 July 2022 Don’t get me wrong, I love Maddison, he’s one of our best players and would hate to see him leave. But with two years left, if he doesn’t sign a new deal, and he goes onto have a season like Youri just has, we’ll be in the same situation as we are with him. Personally think if £60m offer came in and madders had made it clear he wasn’t signing a new deal, then I think we’d need to accept it. Otherwise we risk losing him next summer for £30m ish. 1

st albans fox Posted 30 July 2022 Posted 30 July 2022 Newcastle won’t comment publicly on their business but I find it v odd that anyone would actually make an offer for a player unless they’d received ani indication from somewhere that we’d be interested. Of course this may not be an offer - could just be an enquiry via an intermediary (which is likely to be his agent) to see if there is any interest from our end. and his agent will be doing his job to get an increased deal with us Could be as much about newcastle showing their fanbase that they’re still active in the market and their ambition. 1
lcfc_forever Posted 30 July 2022 Posted 30 July 2022 I think there is a something of the Newcastle owners trying to show ambition here given their fans have been disappointed by their business so far, rather than making a realistic offer. If they were serious, it would be a bid almost double what they’ve initially offered.
