I suggested Ranieri in October as a Rodgers replacement until the end of the season and was laughed out of the place.

He’s always been a fire fighter and is clearly still capable of creating a reaction. He’d have lifted everyone, removed the toxicity and no doubt tightened us up defensively.

It’s not an unreasonable suggestion, but perhaps people had his time at Fulham and Watford on their minds. Might have done better than Smith though.

And the Greek national side.

It would be very unlikely that he'd keep us up and I'd hate to taint his success here with relegation. It was bad enough letting him go the season after we won.

Well, it already seems to be, as people give all the credit for that to Vichai, and completely ignore the fact that his tactics that year (the total antithesis to Rodgers) were the reason so many teams struggled to contain us.

Shame he tried to complicate it a bit the following season instead of just having faith in the system. But anyway, he gets very little respect on here, I’d argue we haven’t had a good manager since and he did a ridiculous job with that squad, especially when you compare it to the bottling and underachievement under Rodgers and Puel.

So happy for him

It always amazed me how Nigeal Pearson is respected here, but when it comes to Claudio, he gets a lot less recognition

I am not saying Pearson does not deserve it, more like Claudio needs more applaud

Like the standing ovation he got in Rome, from both sets of fans.

So pleased for him, it must have entered his head how Rodgers was given so much time and yet he was fired quickly in comparison. I'm glad he's still achieving great things, love the guy.

Love Ranieri but we were absolutely right to sack him.

He's 72 years old. Surprised he's still bothered with management. Go hang out with your grandkids and watch your team AS Roma, and maybe do some punditry here and there.

...also his legacy would have been tainted!!!

Still will be one of our greatest ever managers, big gamble to come here and be sunk by an environment so toxic, I could see no one being able to pull us out again.
