I have a theory that Ward has the ability, but when the pressure.is on, he totally bottles it and loses his mind. This is based on many of the cup games he's had where he looked good with little pressure on him, not to mention penalty saves where hes not expected to save but does. 

I thought Rodgers playing him for so long has totally destroyed his confidence

I'd agree, except for the spell Hodge had when he came back into the side for Muggleton near the end of 1990-91. He had a great run of games. Made some massive saves (Wednesday away rings a bell) and was crucial to us staying up.

 

I would probably have Ward somewhere in the top ten, along with Logan and Pressman, but I find the whole conversation a tiny bit odd, since he really wasn't one of the main culprits last week.

Ricardo was nowhere near as bad as people remember for sure.

Bloody hell. I’ve been watching LCFC for a long time, but had to google the top two on that list.
 

I can’t remember Hodge being that bad. Ricardo was unpopular because he had a very strange style and was picked ahead of Chris Weale who was perfectly competent at the level we were at. 
 

It depends on the criteria. Some on that list only had a handful of appearances. Ward played long enough to make a significant contribution to us going down. Some of these probably are worse (eg Kalac), but were found out pretty quickly and kept well away from the starting eleven

None of these keepers played any significant number of games except for Hodge and his inclusion is harsh anyway. Kevin Pressman and Mike Hooper are two that spring to mind that were worse than him.
 

Anyway, due to the lasting footballing and financial impact of Ward’s poor performances, he is the worst keeper that has played for us and he’s the one that should give you PTSD! His presence and selection during our relegation season was, and continues to be, an absolute catastrophe - as is the inflated wage gifted to him as our 3rd choice keeper.

Rab Douglas is within the memory of most posting in here.

 

He was fairly awful and I'm surprised he doesn't come into the shitkeeper discussion more often.

I think that context has to be taken into consideration.  A poor goalkeeper in a poor team is not as bad as a poor goalkeeper in an established Premier League team with recent trophies in the bank.  Ward was further below the level of which he was playing at than any goalkeeper that went before.  He is also the worst we have ever had because of the cost we suffered as a direct result of his performances. 

 

I mean does it really matter how bad Mark Grew was in his five games for us or Mackleworth in his six?  keepers that were only ever meant to be  understudies.  We trusted Ward to be a number one.

genuinely don't get why people claim Ricardo was up there with the worst keepers we've had. he was perfectly average (probably better than Weale tbh) and yet people act like he was Massimo Taibi levels of bad for simply punching crosses

My services are available.

 

I played a game in goal for Oadby Town 49 years ago.

 

I reckon that qualifies me as a decent replacement.

 

I only ask for my bus fare there and back and a 12 pack of John Smith's.

 

(I kept a clean sheet BTW)
