Always liked the lad but he's never been good enough. Wish him well and can only hope that the next RW can actually do the business because it feels like Riyad laid some African curse on that position when he left.

We haven’t got rid of him on a free have we?

Would be the equivalent of his wages in the next year so make sense if it was free.

He’s a championship player at best. He was a decent player in a very average Newcastle team when we signed him. Obviously 30m was way too much but it wasn’t his fault we paid that much. If he goes all the best to him.

Awful signing overall. Can’t believe how much money we have wasted recently. Anything north of £20m should be a first team starter.

£30M well spent.

Many of us said when he signed that it was a bad signing and, sadly, we weren't wrong. His signing never made sense. He's a second striker but we play with only 1 up front, so we ended up shoehorning him into a position on the RW that clearly doesn't suit him.

Christ. This club haven’t had wasted some money over recent years.
Now we’re letting a 30 mill player go for nothing!

The state of some of the replies in this thread.

He was key to:

-one of our longest ever winning streaks

-largest ever PL win

-2nd highest PL finish in our history

Good servant, always gave his all and 8 goals and 4 assists in his first season. Think our team and style of play just evolved past what he was able to offer. All the best Ayoze!

LOL

If he's leaving its because we're definitely bringing someone in. He's probably Rodgers' favourite of his very few options, he's not letting him go without replacement.

So whatever he goes for is good business, people thinking we'll get a fee are clutching at straws. Getting him to agree to go for nothing and replacing him with an upgrade on loan that we have an option to sign in the next FFP year would be good business.

Underwhelming maybe but good.

Edit: that said, given Sociedad just got the Isak money it couldn't hurt to try and squeeze a bit out of them. But not at the risk of being stuck with Perez if we have a half decent replacement lined up.

He sometimes fit really well into the team, but for the most part he was always the weak link, mainly because he lacks any creativity and falls over if he has to take more than 2 touches.

Might have been a different story if we signed him to play the role he played af Newcastle. But why would we do that when he can go RW.

Think we'll do quite a bit of business now with more leaving. We'll have replacements lined up and probably ready to go.

I'd have taken him gladly, but 30m was ridiculous, 15-18 you'd maybe understand it.

Still, FA Cup win thanks to Perez, best 30m ever spent!
